Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson Wins AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Kansas City Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson is being awarded some praise for his efforts against the Denver Broncos last weekend. The NFL told the Chiefs today that Johnson has been awarded the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award.

Johnson (6-3, 242) played a key role in the Chiefs inaugural victory at INVESCO Field. After Kansas City took a 20-17 lead in the third quarter, Johnson intercepted a QB Kyle Orton pass and returned it for a 45-yard TD to put the Chiefs ahead by a 27-17 margin. Johnson struck again in the fourth quarter, returning another Orton interception for a 60-yard TD to give Kansas City a 37-24 lead en route to the victory.

Johnson is just the third linebacker to intercept two passes for touchdowns in one game since 1948.

This is the second defensive player of the week award for the Chiefs this season. S Mike Brown won it for a November 15th two-interception game against the Oakland Raiders.
