Chiefs' Crennel, Schottenheimer Coaching Future NFL Players Today

The Kansas City Chiefs past and present will be well represented in today East-West Shrine game televised on ESPN2 at 2:00 PM (CST).

Coaching the East squad is current defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel and with the West squad is former Chiefs head coach Marty Schottenheimer.

It should be a great game to watch the various prospects. Recent history has suggested the Chiefs will have at least one future player on the field today.

After the jump, I've compiled a bunch of stories on the game. We'll also have an open thread for the game so stick around all day.

East-West Shrine Game Rosters

Chiefs Brass Joins Romeo Crennel, Marty Schottenheimer in Orlando
The Kansas City Chiefs brass has invaded Orlando, Florida, the site of the East-West Shrine Game featuring some of the top collegiate talent in the land. Chad Reuter of CBSSports.com starts his recap article of the first practice mentioning Bill Parcells being joined by Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, head coach Todd Haley and Packers GM Ted Thompson.

Crennel, Schottenheimer Preparing For East-West Shrine Game This Weekend
No first round talent will be in Orlando this weekend but shouldn't that mean Pioli and Co. will be all the more interested? After the jump, courtesy of Josh Looney over at the mothership this morning, we have the East-West Shrine game players drafted by the Chiefs in recent years. I've also included the full roster for both squads.

Crennel Says Coaching East-West Game Gives Chiefs Great Insight
Crennel, who is coaching against former Chiefs coach Marty Schottenheimer, said the Chiefs hold an advantage over other clubs when it comes to evaluating the talent in the East-West game. "Being able to work with them on a one-on-one basis, being in meetings with them, being on the practice field with them...you get an insight on them that some of the teams watching don't get even though they're here watching them. There's been a great turnout from the NFL but they're on the sidelines and we're on the field dealing with them."

Most of the players participating in the game had NFL scouts showing up to practices and games all season, but nothing could prepare them for walking onto the practice field for the first time and seeing more than 100 people who will decide their future ready to watch them work out. "I don't think any of us could have asked for a better opportunity," Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing said. "It's a dream come true for every player to have a chance to play at the next level."

2010 NFL Draft prospects at East West Shrine Game practice - SI.com
John Estes/C/Hawaii: Estes could well be the big winner of Shrine week. He played with terrific fundamentals and strength from the first day of practice. Estes had no problem handling bigger opponents on the line and was flawless blocking on the move. Estes, who has not yet received an invitation to February's combine, elevated his draft stock at least one round.

Draft Dish: Prospects to watch at East-West Shrine Game - Sporting News
Darrell Stuckey, S, Kansas, & Larry Asante, S, Nebraska. Stuckey and Asante are tough, hard-nosed safeties who attack plays in front of them and do not hesitate to deliver violent hits, showing good quickness and closing burst. However, both must prove they have the athleticism to be effective in deep pass coverage. Both are viewed as tough, in-the-box safeties who are much better in close quarters than in the open field.
