There were rumors and then reports out there that USC had reached out to former Chiefs coach Herm Edwards about the open head coaching job. Publicly, Herm didn't say anything on the topic.
Reports from ESPN.com now say it's (former) Tennessee Volunteers head coach Lane Kiffin that will become the next head coach at USC.
Tennessee's Lane Kiffin has agreed in principle to become the next head coach at Southern California, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Chris Low on Tuesday.
Sources told ESPN Kiffin will bring his father and defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, and assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron to Southern Cal with him, and wide receivers coach Kippy Brown will be named interim head coach at Tennessee.
The USC job was also linked to Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio so it had some NFL implications.
And Del Rio also played for the Chiefs (87-88) so that's two former Chiefs that were potentially candidates for the job. Kinda weird, huh?
