Around the AFC West (August 20 Update)

Checking in again a couple weeks after our last go-round the AFC West, here's another edition of the latest articles or news bits you should know about the arch-enemies found in Oakland, Denver and San Diego.

Denver:

The Colorado Springs Gazette posted that things are still tenuous between the talented but high-maintenance WR Brandon Marshall and the Broncos. Beat writer Frank Schwab tweets that he continues to sit out practice and is only on the scout team.

Marshall has also said he's not even close to learning the playbook.

The Broncos traded a fifth round choice for New England DE Kevin Smith and a seventh round choice. Both draft picks are for 2010.

The Broncos will apparently rely on their rookies heavily this season and things are looking promising in camp.

First round choice Knowshon Moreno hurt his knee in the first preseason game.

Oakland:

The biggest news starts here with several unfavorable reports coming out of Oakland's camp - both on behalf of the players and coaches. It starts with the head coach, Tom Cable, who apparently assaulted one of his assistant coaches, Randy Hanson, on August 5. Now? They can't keep things in house as Hanson is aiding local police and NFL security in the investigation. Cable still isn't talking.

Raiders cut esteemed but aging fullback Lorenzo Neal from camp to make way for third-year option Oren O'Neal.

Promising second-year receiver Chaz Schilens looked to be a potential starter at wideout, but instead broke a bone in his foot and will be out for a month.

All-world cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is not practicing due to a foot injury.

Veterans were added to the defense: LB Morlon Greenwood and CB Ricky Manning, Jr.

San Diego:

The Chargers are apparently toying with the Wildcat option.

LaDanian Tomlinson wants the Chargers to showcase a two-back offense a lot to feature both him and Darren Sproles.

A few minor injuries are plaguing Chargers' camp, but nothing major. A sprain for WR Vincent Jackson and LB Shawne Merriman is sore. NT Jamaal Williams and C Nick Hardwick has also sat recent practices. First round pick and mammoth pass rusher (at least in college) Larry English has missed considerable time.

DE Ryon Bingham is going to be out the rest of the preseason and into the regular season with a torn triceps muscle.
