And with the #28 Pick in the Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles Select...

Arizona OT Eben Britton

ChiefsFan717 with the pick...

Wow oh Wow!!! If this draft were real the Eagles would be ecstatic right now! Britton (who was a legitimate possibility at #21) falls right into the Eagles lap here at #28. Landing these two targeted prospects alone will be a win for the Eagles in the 2009 draft! And the way things are playing out (not only in our AP mock draft) but also in real life, I wouldn't be surprised to see a running back like McCoy, Donald Brown, Andre Brown, or Shonn Greene be available come their 2nd round pick at #52. Getting any of the 4 would be a dream first 2 rounds for the Birds! Especially if their targeted RB McCoy would miraculously drop!!! Back to Britton...at 6'6", 310 lbs., Britton could become an immediate starter from day one (Barring any re-signing of Jon Runyan)...Even if this were to happen, Britton would quickly learn some things about the pro game from Runyan (35 yrs. old) and push him for a starting spot at RT later in the year. Britton definitely has the frame to put on more weight, which won't be hard to accomplish with the Hamburgler at the helm. Being a 320+ pound lineman is an OL norm within the Eagles organization. Britton projects to be a more legit RT than LT in the league due to his inability to handle speed rushers that well. The Eagles won't hesitate to plug him in at RT right away. This is a value pick here as Britton's stock is still rising, and the Eagles won't have to worry about the RT spot for the next 10 years!

A Quick View To Why Britton Is the One For The Birds At #28...

1. Plain and simple, they would have had no problem taking him at #21 if Pettigrew was off of the board. The Eagles were smart here though...Pettigrew would have gone to the Falcons at 24 if they would have taken Britton at #21. The Birds knew there was a better chance of Britton slipping to 28 than Pettigrew.

2. Lets take a look at the Eagles draft track record under Andy Reid's tenure...I don't believe there was a running back taken within the 1st 2 rounds of any Eagles draft under Reid, let alone the 1st round. I know K. Moreno is probably the SEXY pick here, but along with Andy Reid's draft history, there are 2 other major factors to why Eagles don't go RB at #28....a.) Westbrook still has a lot of gas left in the tank. Unless he gets injured, there really isn't a need to pay for a 1st round back right now. RB's have a short shelf life, and it would be a waist to have someone waist 2 years watching Westbrook (again; that is, if he doens't get injured)...and b.) There are plenty of quality backs that could possibly be available to them in the 2nd or 3rd round (see first paragraph).

3. Last but not least, it wouldn't be right not to mention that the Eagles have went Defense with 4 of their last 5 1st rounders. History shows that one of these two picks should/could be a defensive player. I argue that when you look at Philly's biggest needs this year, they come on the offensive side of the ball. A safety will be intriguing to the Eagles with the loss of Dawkins and Considine, but my gut tells me that if the combination of Pettigrew and Britton are available to them with back to back picks (that is the direction they will go)!!!
