And with the #17 Pick in the Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft, the New York Jets Select...

USC QB Mark Sanchez

NJChief with the pick...

Now that Mr. Favre has hung up his cleats and ridden off into the sunset, it's time for the J-E-T-S to find their quarterback of the future. They took a hard look at their current roster of Kellen Clemens, Bret Ratliff and Erik Ainge to fill the void and even tried to make a trade with Denver for Jay Cutler. However in the end, the Jets decided to buy into the USC QB hype and select Mark Sanchez with their first round pick. The Jets are hoping that Sanchez pans out better than last year's number one pick (Vernon Gholston) and they're banking on him to be more like USC alums Carson Palmer and Matt Cassel instead of Matt Leinart, Rob Johnson, Sean Salisbury, Rodney Peete, and my favorite Todd Marinovich. Surprised that Sanchez had fallen this far, the Jets and their fans should be extremely happy with this selection.

Sanchez has good size - 6'3" 225 lbs., intelligence - a Wonderlic score of 28, and college experience in a pro style offense (albeit only 16 starts) to tout on his resume. He can also claim that he battled a pretty good defense everyday in practice for a couple of years at USC. As a senior, he threw for over 3,200 yards, 34 TD's and only 10 INT's. One could argue he should have stayed in school one more year to gain valuable big game experience, but he elected to enter the draft while his value was high and hope for the best. Maybe he'll be New York's next Joe Willie Namath....only time will tell.

Previous pick: DE Tyson Jackson

The Jets would love, love for this to happen in the real draft. If Sanchez is around at this point, they definitely take him.
