Well these numbers are based on the classical, "Draft Trade Chart," which is not set in stone but gives people/GM's a feel for what value your draft pick is worth.

According to the trade chart, K.C.'s #3 pick is worth 2200 points. It is so expensive to move up into the Top 5 of the draft these days. Teams not only have to give up a lot of draft picks, but they have to be ready to pay a huge salary with a huge signing bonus to whomever they draft in the top 5. This is why it is unlikely for teams to trade up in the draft because they have to leverage their future away for the person that they think can get them over the hump right now.
So here are some possible trade partners. As I go through this list I will weed out the teams that are unlikely to trade but they are listed b/c they have the ammunition to possibly make the trade.
- Philly - The Eagles reached the NFC championship only to fall short to the team with the better receiving corps. The thought here is that Philly could possibly trade up to grab Crabtree to get McNabb that go to receiver. They also need to prepare to replace both of their OT's b/c Runyan has 13 yrs under his belt and Thomas has 11yrs under his. So they could also target one of the premier OT's in this years draft. According to the draft chart Philly would have to give up two 1st rd (#21, #28), 2nd rd (#52), and 3rd rd (#83) 2009 picks along with their 2010 3rd round pick in order to trade up to #3 to get possibly Crabtree or an OT. That is 5 picks for 1 guy. The question is do they think Crabtree can get them over the hump. This is a tall order to call for, but then again the Eagles could ask for us to package T-Gonz in to sweetin the deal.
- Patriots - The Patriots typically trade down, but with both Cassel and Brady accounting for $28 million in cap space they could make a move. I know that the patriots want two 1st rd picks for Cassel, but what happens when there are no takers come draft day and they think Brady will for sure be ready to go come season opener. There might be some kind of deal where swaps and future picks are involved but that #3 pick some may say is worth two late 1st rd picks. As you can see in Philly's case it's worth more than two 1st rounders. But considering ammunition alone NE would have to give up their 1st rd (#23), two 2nd's (#47, #58), and 3rd rd (#89) in 2009 along with their 2010 2nd rd pick.
- Giants - The G-Men could possibly be in the market for Crabtree with Plaxico drama lingering and the realization that Amani Toomer is old. The Giants were also in the market for T-Gonz last year, so some kind of package deal could possibly be done. Maybe even if they lose Brandon Jacobs they could possibly want both T-Gonz and LJ. Considering ammunition alone, if the G-Men were to just trade for the #3 pick they would have to give up their 1st rd (#29), two 2nd's (#45, #60), 3rd rd (#90) in 2009 along with their 2010 1st round pick.
- Vikings - The Vikings seem to be just a QB away from doing big things. Supposedly they are in the market for Cassel and McNabb. The Chiefs and Vikings made a big trade splash last year over our beloved "calf ropin" trademark Jared Allen. There could be a possibility that Matt Stafford falls to the Chiefs at #3. If this happens then the Vikings could be thinking of grabbing their own Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco. After all, the Vikings have the O-line and Adrian Peterson in place along with one of the best defenses. They could follow the formula that the Falcons and Ravens used by managing their rookie QB, taking pressure off him with the running game and having a great defense to fall back on. Do the Vikings go after their guy this year? The Chiefs have done business before with the Vikiings. Even though it was a past regime that dealt that deal, this will fit into Pioli's strategy of trading back, saving money, and collecting more picks as he builds for the future. The Vikings would have to give up their 1st rd pick (#22), 2nd rd (#54), 3rd rd (#86), 4th (#118) in 2009 along with their 2010 1st round pick.
- Packers - I list the Packers just b/c they have the ammunition. But if they got a guy high on their board that they desperately need for that new 3-4 defense such as B.J. Raji (Maybe, IDK), they might be willing to make a swap allowing the Chiefs to trade down. The Packers would have to swap their #9 pick, give the Chiefs their 2nd rd (#41), and both of their 3rd rd picks (#73, #84) all in 2009.
- Dolphins - Again, I list the Dolphins just b/c the have some ammunition to possibly trade for Crabtree. But this seems highly unlikey b/c they have a top 10 pick in Ginn Jr. already even though their WR corp is kind of weak. The Dolphins would have to give up their 1st rd (#25), two 2nd's (#44, #56), their 3rd rd (#87) in 2009 along with their 2010 2nd round pick.
Well I think you can subtract the Dolphins and Packers from this list, but another possibility that I left off could be the 49ers if Stafford falls to the Chiefs at #3.
If you guys think of any other possible deals, let me know.
Tell me what you guys think.
