Chiefs and Chargers Have Even More in Common Now

We gave you the Kansas City Chiefs/San Diego Chargers connections back on October 21st for the two team's first meeting. A couple of things have changed since thing as far as connections go.

First, the Chiefs nabbed former Chargers WR Chris Chambers off the waiver wire back in early November. And for Chargers guard Mike Goff, who was a Chief for most of this season, has been put on IR by KC ending his season.

After those two, there is much new to report.

  • Chiefs WR Chris Chambers played with San Diego (2007-09). Chargers RB Michael Bennett (2006-07), DE Alfonso Boone (2007-08) and TE Kris Wilson (2004-07) all played with Kansas City.
  • Former Chiefs assistant coaches on the Chargers staff include: Hall of Fame WR Charlie Joiner (2001-07) and Jeff Hurd (’98-06).
  • Former Chiefs CB Chris Dishman (’99) is SD’s asst. secondary coach.
  • Chargers Director of Player Personnel Jimmy Raye III worked for KC in ’95 and is the son of former Chiefs assistant coach Jimmy Raye.
  • Chargers TE/FB Brandon Manumaleuna is the son of Frank Manumaleuna, who played LB for Kansas City (’79-81).
  • Chargers RB Darren Sproles prepped at Olathe North HS in Olathe, KS and played at Kansas State.
  • Chargers T Jeromey Clary also played at K-State.
  • Chiefs FB Tim Castille is the brother of CB Simeon Castille, who is on San Diego’s practice squad.
  • Chargers sp. teams coach Steve Crosby was born in Great Bend, KS and was a RB at Fort Hays State.
  • KC Manager of Football Operations Chris Caminiti and Chiefs video assistant Josh Schmidt both spent time at the University of San Diego.
  • Kansas City area scout Jay Muraco interned with San Diego in ’92.
