NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will attend this weekend's game as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Dallas Cowboys according to Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com.
It's not often that the NFL Commissioner comes to Arrowhead so I would like to take this time to welcome Mr. Goodell to Kansas City and give him a few pointers to having a good time in Kansas City.
When you arrive, you'll notice that our airport isn't much to look at. It's 30-40 minutes from downtown but despite the location it's very convenient. Your people can pick you up right outside within 50 feet of your gate. Handy, if you ask me.
When you get into town you're probably going to be hungry and that's a problem. The solution?
Barbecue!
Ask a local and you're liable to get four to five different answers on where to go ranging from Gates, Arthur Bryant's or possibly LC's on your way out to the stadium. But, there's really only one place you need to stop and that's....
...Oklahoma Joe's off of Mission Road!
Don't be alarmed when you pull up and just see a gas station. Rest assured you're in the right spot. You see, the best barbecue in Kansas City is served in a gas station. Yes, yes, I know that's not helping our small town image but you've gotta try the food to know what I'm talking about.
Just order a Z-Man with fries, grab a strawberry soda, sit down and enjoy. If you're like me, then you might want to loosen that belt before you sit down. You're in for a wild ride.
Arrowhead Stadium, like the airport, is kind of in the middle of nowhere. That's okay, though. It just makes for better parking. I imagine the Chiefs have equipped you with a parking pass so pull on in and, instead of moving to one of those fancy spots right next to the stadium entrance, find one of the hills on the outskirts of the parking lot and plop down.
You're about to experience tailgating by the folks that do it best. I know you already ate but you're going to have to be ready for another helping of barbecue. Hey, Missouri isn't the skinniest state in the country so you'll just have to get used to double lunches. Go ahead and ask the folks parked next to you if you can join them for a pre-game meal and, if you're not on the clock, a cocktail as well. Everyone's friendly around the stadium.
After that, go on in to the stadium and enjoy yourself. We're glad to have you.
