Morning Update (That Yellow Line Edition)

  • The Chiefs have interviewed Jim Fassel for the offensive coordinator position. (Thanks DJ and Eric!)

  • Joe Posnanski weighs in on the OC search -- "And it needs to be said: Edwards and Peterson already blew this call once. They went with offensive-line coach Mike Solari, no doubt in an effort to keep some offensive continuity going. But Solari (an excellent offensive-line coach) was all wrong."

  • Silver and Black Pride wonders if this 2008 draft class has the best crop of running backs in twenty-five years.

  • Throw another offensive tackle into the mix -- Michael Oher to go pro.

  • Chargers QB Philip Rivers is questionable for this weekend's game against the Patriots. How could anyone on the Chargers like this guy? Total jackass.

  • Phil explains why Ty Law and Pat Surtain will still be around in 2008.

  • Nick Athan of WPI says that the Chiefs were expected to interview Mike Shula for the OC position yesterday. Nick also mentions that Shula appears to be the leading candidate to get the job.

  • The yellow first down line on television is waaay more complicated than I thought. Read how they do it.
Judging by everything I've read, it appears that the Chiefs search for a new offensive coordinator should end this week and maybe even today. Here's how they currently rank, according to my very unscientific method of reading what other people have written:

Mike Shula
Eric Price
Chan Gailey
Jim Fassel

As its been written here and in our fantastic diary section, all of these coaches have previous experience developing quarterbacks. We can infer from that that the Chiefs are prepared to stick with Brodie Croyle for the long-term.

Despite our poor showing last season, it's a pretty exciting time to be a Chiefs fan. We'll have a new offensive coordinator and assistants coming in, who will more than likely institute a new kind of offense. Or at least an offense with a few more wrinkles than our previous version.

Sorry about the lack of content yesterday. I'm up to speed again. You guys did a hell of a job filling in the gaps yesterday with your diaries. Thanks!
