I said it before- this defense did not play poorly last Sunday. They actually played pretty well. They just got burned on one big pass play for a TD. The Texans' offense had 4 drive of 3 plays, with one of those drives ending at end of the first half. That drive to begin the fourth quarter just killed our defense. The Texans slowly marched down the field and our defense could not do a thing. They had to be tired, judging by their performance up to that point.
The Chiefs undoubtedly played poorly as a whole team. There are still issues to be worked out. But this game, because of our defense, was in our reach. I know I ragged on Herm for placing what seemed to be all of the blame for the loss on turnovers but he was right. Without Kris Wilson's fumble and Mario "See, I'm not a Bust" Williams' TD return, the defense keeps us in that game. If the game was closer, I think the Chiefs defense steps it up on the Texans' second to last, long drive. But when your offense can't do anything, your defensive energy has to be sapped much quicker than if the game was close.
Its the Bizarro 2003 season. Great defense, horrible offense.
