Here is where the Chiefs stand, relative to the rest of the league in a number of different categories..
30th in points scored per game (14.3)
30th in total offensive yards per game (280.7)
23rd in passing yards per game (195.1)
29th in rushing yards per game (85.6)
T-28th in touchdowns scored (17)
31st in yards per play (4.5)
29th in first downs per game (16)
29th in third down percentage (34%)
15th most penalized team (72)
We've been around these rankings for the majority of the season. We aren't two or three moves away from fixing the offense. We're more like five or six moves away.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Chiefs are ranked 7th in pass defense and 21st in rush defense, which is surprising considering the systematic breakdowns we saw yesterday in the secondary.
One of the most frustrating parts of the Chiefs this season is the fact that no scheme or combination of current personnel is going to solve our offensive problems. We simply have to wait out the rest of the season until we can get fresh blood in there. Sure, a new offensive coordinator with a little imagination would temporarily help. But no scheme or set of new plays is going to fix the offensive line this season. Buy the ticket, take the ride. It's all we can do at this point.
Sitting at 4-8 now, we'll be lucky to split the last four games against Denver, Tennessee, Detroit and the Jets. Yes, you heard me right. We'll be lucky to win two of those.
