I've been a Vikings fan since 1984, and spend my autumn Sunday afternoons living and dying with this football team. I didn't choose to be a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. . .the Minnesota Vikings chose me. Someday, that loyalty will be repaid with a trip to the promised land.

Blogger Deathsport: Week 6

Things are looking good so far for me in the Blogger Deathsport race.  After going 9-3-2 last week, I've moved up into third place in the overall standings, still trailing behind Will from Hogs Haven and River City Rage from Big Cat Country.  Even though my week was pretty impressive, Will managed to go 11-1-2 last week.  At this point, he's a full nine games or so ahead of me, but the season. . .it is still young.

So, as far as the Blogger Deathsport title. . .in the immortal words of Wayne Campbell. . .it will be mine.  Oh, yes. . .it will be mine.

So let's take a look at what we have in store for Week 6 of Blogger Deathsport!  Lines are supplied, as always, by the Blogger Deathsport head offices in Intercourse, Pennsylvania.

Five Good Questions with Pride of Detroit

I had the good fortune to exchange five questions with Sean, the head guy over at SBNation's outstanding Lions' blog, Pride of Detroit.  I just sent my answers to Sean's questions over to him, and I'm sure they'll be up there at some point during the course of the day.  I got Sean's answers to my questions last night, and here they are.

1)  Since the Vikings weren't on this past Sunday, I watched quite a bit of Lions/Bears.  Am I imagining things, or has Roy Williams quit on this football team?
I wouldn't necessarily say he has quit on the team, but he is letting his frustration get the best of him.  Roy has been unhappy all season long because of how poorly he and the Lions have played.  His frustrations finally boiled over in the second half against Chicago when Dan Orlovsky took over as the starting QB (Jon Kitna left with an injury).  Orlovsky had trouble hitting his targets, and when Roy was the target and passes inaccurately sailed by, he threw his arms up in disgust each and every time.  Once he even stormed over to the sidelines and ripped off his gloves and threw them.  I was certainly upset with his antics, though I understand why he is angry.  However, maybe Roy Williams should catch the passes that are thrown to him before he complains.  After all, he had four drops against Chicago and has had at least a couple in every game this season.  He needs to worry about his own play before he starts ripping on others.

Lots of Updates This Weekend

Yours truly has been sick as a dog over the past day or two. . .hence the lack of updatery today.

Over the course of the weekend, we're going to have the Five Good Questions with myself and the folks at Pride of Detroit, as well as a lot of other good stuff leading up to the Lions/Vikings game on Sunday.  I've got Monday off as well, so I should be able to get plenty of good stuff up here on Sunday.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to hit another NyQuil shot and lay back down.  Colds suck.

Daily Norseman Pick 'Em League Update

Yes, with 27 different people battling it out every week, things are getting a bit interesting in the Daily Norseman Pick 'Em Pool over at Fun Office Pools.

Yours truly sits in second place in the pool with 55 points.  The only person I currently trail is crazyviking10, who has 58 points.  The strange thing. . .and one of the thing that makes the Fun Office Pools format so interesting. . .is that, to this point in the year, crazyviking10 and I have both posted identical 50-24 records with our picks.  But, he obviously cashed in on an upset or two someplace that I didn't, and that gave him the couple of points that he leads me by through the season's first five weeks.  By that same token, Trappist.Monk also has a 50-24 record, yet sits three points in back of me and six points behind crazyviking10 in a three-way tie for third place.

Here are the full standings for the Pick 'Em pool.

Overall Standings Through Week 5

1 crazyviking10's picks 50-24 58

25 Rev.Vike's picks 37-37 43
26 eric the red's picks 41-33 42
27 Vikings's picks 23-51 24

It's a pretty tight race at the top to this point. Hopefully the rest of the season will be this exciting, too!

Thanks to everyone that signed up to participate in the Pick 'Em pool.  We might even start a Survivor pool here after the Vikings' bye week or something. . .or before, I don't know.  I haven't decided yet.

That's all for tonight, folks.  Have a good rest of your Thursday, and we'll see you back here tomorrow!

Daily Norseman Fantasy Football League Update

Yes, after missing one week worth of updates (which I apologize for), here's a quickie update on the league.  I'm going to make this quick because I want to do an update on the Pick 'Em league as well.

As you no doubt noticed in his FanPost, UncleBillyBonz is still the owner of the league's only undefeated team, as his Bombers have run their record to 5-0 after the season's first five games.  They did get their biggest test of the season this past week, though, and only two teams in Week 5 scored fewer points than the Bombers.  Fortunately, one of those two teams was the Angry Dragons, who went down to the Bombers by a final score of 63.3 - 53.3.

While the Bombers have a 5-0 record, nobody else in the league has better than a 3-2 record at this point.  Six of the league's twelve teams have that mark thus far, including three of the four teams in the Tarkenton Division.  Also, the league's last winless team, Garnet and Gold, finally notched their first victory of the year, as they got a 99.45 - 92.05 victory over the PMak Attack back in Week 4.

As of right now, the teams are ranked as follows in the "Power Rankings."

1)  UBB's Bombers (5-0, 1st place, Page Division)
2)  PMak Attack (3-2, 1st place, Tarkenton Division)
3)  Space Monkey Mafia (3-2, 2nd place, Carter Division)
4)  dvikings1 (3-2, 3rd place, Tarkenton Division)
5)  The Hamburglars (3-2, 2nd place, Page Division)
6)  whodat (3-2, 1st place, Carter Division)
7)  Angry Dragons (3-2, 2nd place, Tarkenton Division)
8)  Packers Suck (2-3, 3rd place, Carter Division)
9)  Rabble Rousers (2-3, 3rd place, Page Division)
10)  Gonzo's Friend's Team (1-4, 4th place, Tarkenton Division)
11)  Garnet and Gold (1-4, 4th place, Carter Division)
12)  Dani's Purple Team (1-4, 4th place, Page Division)

No, I'm not sure how teams in second place in their divisions can be ranked ahead of first place teams.  That's just the way that Fleaflicker has the teams ranked.  I'm pretty sure that points scored plays a big part in that.

An update on the Pick 'Em league is forthcoming, folks.  Stay tuned!

Ask Gonzo from The Daily Norseman

Good morning, Lions fans.

In an effort to get more activity between sites during game weeks, a lot of our SBNation bloggers are heading to the site of "the enemy" during the week and giving opposing fans to ask questions about their team.  I'm doing that for this week's division clash between the Lions and the Vikings.

If you have any Viking-related questions you'd like to ask me, feel free to leave them here, and I'll effort to answer them as best I can.  I believe that Sean and I will be doing the standard five question exchange as well, but here you can feel free to ask anything about the team you'd like.

Thanks, and looking foward to hearing from you!

Mid-Week Musings: Kluwe, Point Spreads, and Ridiculous Stats

Like many of you on Monday night, I spent much of the second half screaming at my television for the Vikings to NOT punt the damn ball to Reggie Bush.  The Saints were basically doing nothing offensively in the second half, and there was no logical reason for the Vikings to keep kicking the ball to the one guy that could have made a huge difference.

But whenever Chris Kluwe punted the ball away, it kept landing in the hands of Reggie Bush, and giving him plenty of room to work with to boot.  Reggie Bush had five punt return opportunites in the second half on Monday night.  His average was a cool 35.2 yards a crack. . .more impressive given the fact that one of those five punt returns was a two-yard loss.  So why the heck did the ball keep landing in Bush's hands?

Apparently it was because Chris Kluwe wasn't doing his job.
