The list, we’re told, includes former Packers G.M. Ron Wolf, former Giants G.M. Ernie Accorsi, former Texans and Redskins G.M. Charley Casserly, former Bills G.M. Tom Donahoe, and Chiefs V.P. of player personnel Bill Kuharich, who previously served as G.M. of the Saints.

Random Thanksgiving Day Open Thread

Since there are 3 games today, and not everyone is with family this Thanksgiving (or just needs a break from the family), I thought this could be an all day open thread for comments on the games or the Chiefs.

Who knows, maybe even Direckshun, Ridiculous Matt (MAWK), JasonM (TomBahali), and ChiefDJ might show up?  It's been a long time.

Here's my first thought today:  Watching the Lions D makes me start to be happy to have the Chiefs D.  They are just horrible, yet Marinelli has a 10-33 record.  Herm isn't that far off from that terrible mark.

That said, we can at least be thankful for the fact that the NFL ignored efforts by the Chiefs to secure dibs on the Thanksgiving night game. They hosted the first one two years ago, and they wanted to make it an annual thing. If it had happened, today’s tripleheader would feature an 0-11 team, a 2-9 team, and a 1-10 team.

At least he didn't also bag on the Chiefs attempt to secure an annual Veterans Day game.

Chiefs Fans, You Are Excused. An Open Letter to Clark and the Fans.

The Chiefs dismal performances aren't new territory, but fan sentiment is.  Chris wrote about losing the Arrowhead Advantage and, now, I feel it merely sitting at home.

At moments today, I thought I wanted to write a scathing post about the Chiefs game against the Bills.  Then, I realized, I don't care enough to write it anymore.

I'm not abandoning our team by any means, but we are drained as fans.  We are drained of optimism.  We are drained of anger.  We are drained of embarrassment.

Clark, fan anger is profitable.  Apathy is dangerous.

Even during the late 80's, I never reached this point.  I have now.  Much of it stems from the fact the things we rail against today are things we argued over last year and years before that.  The problems have simply not changed, and the will to continue the same arguments/positions, when we all know the only answer, has subsided.

Are we defeated?  Maybe.  No more debates.  No more arguments.  No more, "Ah, buck up, son.  We'll get 'em next week."

There is only one thing to do anymore.  Wait it out.

Until the GM and Coaching staff change, nothing else will.  Our frustration will remain, our apathy will grow, and our PRIDE will continue to wither.

We need leadership.  We need an owner who will lead the way by showing up to a Chiefs game when he has better things to do...just like the fans have better things to do.

Clark, you show up to the poor performances, even though you have somewhere else you would rather be, to provide stability, to provide LEADERSHIP, to say, "I am here with you in these tough times."

The owner, by choosing to not watch our crap team today, gave every fan a pardon for the rest of his tenure to choose to do something else rather than go to the games.  Fans, you have been excused.

Yes, I know his beloved soccer team was playing in a championship game.  Clark has stated that soccer is the sport of the future.  Do you know anyone who watched it?  If he didn't go to the soccer game, would the KC Star have written about it?  Would the soccer fans have taken it personally...and if they did, would it have cost Clark the money that neglecting the Chiefs will?

Do you think Clark would have skipped today's game if the Chiefs were 7-3 heading into the game?  No, he had a winning team to watch.  He had something more productive to do.  From here on, so do we.

I/We will still watch every game, but until the GM and Coaching staff changes, I never want to hear anyone blame a single Chiefs Fan for not going to the game.

Clark can go to the games for free.  We pay through the nose.  He chooses to not watch it in person.  You have the right to not watch it in person.

If Clark wants to continue his Soccer Quest in the US and the UK, he may need to pay attention to the business that pays for it, and the people who pay for it.

In the meantime, Clark, try emphasizing the "Home of the Chiefs."

The Chiefs Defense: An Absolutely Terrifying Set of Statistics

From the FanPosts. Tweaked the title a touch. Thanks DThomasReigns. -Chris

I was listening to 810 after the game Sunday, and Jack Harry said something I didn't actually believe.

We have argued draft failures many times before here...nothing new; however, when Jack said this I was floored (paraphrased):

"In the last 7 years, the Chiefs have spent 4 of 7 First round picks on Defense, EVERY Second round pick on Defense, and 5 Third rounders on Defense."

My first thought was, "That has to be wrong."  I thought about it all day at work and was just going to post that without researching it - because I am stat lazy.  But, I decided to go back over the last 8 drafts to encompass the full Vermeil and Herm eras.

Here are the results, and they are DISGUSTING.  Even from the beginning of the Vermeil and Herm eras, the Defense has not been ignored:

Of the Picks Not Traded Since the 2001 Draft

1st Round: 4 of 6 have been on Defense (67%)

2nd Round: 6 of 6 have been on Defense (100%...100 freaking percent!)

3rd Round: 5 of 9 have been on Defense (56%)

71% of of every 1st through 3rd round draft pick in the last 8 years has been on Defense.

By Position:

DT = 6 (7 if you count McBride)

DE = 2 counting McBride as a DE

LB = 3

S = 2

CB = 2

By Year (with names):

2001 = 1st - No First pick.  2nd - No Second pick. 3rd - Defense, Eric Downing DT.  3rd - Offense.

2002 = 1st - Defense, Ryan Sims DT. 2nd - Defense, Eddie Freeman DT.  3rd - No Third pick.

2003 = 1st - Offense. 2nd - Defense, Kawika Mitchell LB.  3rd - Defense, Julian Battle CB.

2004 = 1st - No First pick.  2nd - Defense, Junior Siavii DT.  2nd - Offense.  3rd - Defense, Keyaron Fox LB.

2005 = 1st - Defense, Derrick Johnson LB.  2nd - No 2nd pick.  3rd - Special Teams.

2006 = 1st - Defense, Tamba Hali DE.  2nd - Defense, Bernard Pollard S.  3rd - Offense.

2007 = 1st - Offense.  2nd - Defense, Turk McBride DT/DE.  3rd - Defense, Tank Tyler DT.

2008 = 1st - Defense, Glenn Dorsey DT.  1st - Offense.  2nd - Defense, Brandon Flowers CB.  3rd - Offense.  3rd - Offense.  3rd - Defense, DaJuan Morgan S.

I really feel sick looking at all of this over the last 8 drafts, and we still have the 32nd ranked Defense.  Blame Vermeil...blame Herm, but there has only been 1 person in charge over that entire period.

[U] Those are 15 first day Defensive players.  Even if we whiffed on 4 of them, that is still an ENTIRE starting defensive team in their prime.  Add to that FA's in that period like Ty Law, Pat Surtain, Napolean Harris, Donnie Edwards, Demorrio Williams, Alphonso Boone...and keep in mind Jared Allen, Jarrad Page, and Brandon Carr were second day picks and don't factor into this scenario.

Our Defense is, and has been, so horrendously broken it almost defies blame...but it doesn't. It is inexcusable.

OFFICIAL Bones Bandwagon-'cause PARADE doesn't own "OFFICIAL" (updated 2)

First, I was horribly wrong and know nothing about QB's.  I have no choice and have to admit it.

Second, Bones is 66-102 for 710 yards, 6 TDs and 0 INTs, with 0 fumbles lost the last 3 games.  He has done it while being more aggressive passing and down to the 3rd & 4th string RBs with our mediocre O-Line.

Third, Bones has completely outperformed most everyone's wildest expectations.  His decision making and composure have been impeccable.  He has even made a noticed effort to not run and wait for the play to develop.

Fourth, Bones brazenly taunted Death, himself (deranged Hamlet style) and must be respected.

[U] Fifth, Bones' QB rating of 104.62 over the last 3 games is better than all these great QBs over the last 3 games. Thanks, ChiefsDude!

Sixth, Bones has shown us more than Croyle, and we were willing to give Croyle nearly 2 seasons to maybe become who Bones already has in 4 starts with which less to work.

I am absolutely behind Thigpen.  He is not the next Len Dawson, but he can be the first QB we have developed who is able to achieve what Lenny did.

How do you feel about Bones?

"Carl Peterson is a moron."

From PFT:

“Carl Peterson is a moron,” one source opined in the wake of news that Peterson led Gonzalez to believe that a deal would be done, and that Peterson then insisted on a second-round pick, rejecting one or more offers of a third-round selection.

Now that it has been written publicly outside of Chiefs Nation by a league insider, can we refrain from attacking members for saying the same thing?

Granted, there will always be Carl apologists, but most comas don't last 20 years.

Direckshun, wherefore art thou?

Yeah, this is a crap post, but it is a bye week.

Where has Direckshun been?  Is he coming back? Is he like the Chiefs offense, and feigning absence only to resurge at a later time?  Do I really have to write another question to meet the 75 word minimum?

Apparently, yes, I need 20 more words.  So, I press these keys to reach the minimum of twenty words.  By the power of Greyskull, I have 20 words!!!!

At a time when the Chiefs are actively talking to other teams about a trade of tight end Tony Gonzalez, Jay Glazer of FOX reports that they also are shopping running back Larry Johnson.

ProFootballTalk.com - CHIEFS SHOPPING L.J., TOO

Looks like the Chiefs think LJ is tradeable, despite everyone saying he isn't.
