NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says 34 teams likely if NFL adds a franchise in Los Angeles

"Commissioner Roger Goodell says if the NFL puts a team in Los Angeles, it is probable the league would expand to 34 franchises."

Court Issues Ruling: NFL Lockout Is Legal

Several weeks ago the NFL and NFLPA went before the 8th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and stated their case for why the NFL lockout is legal (NFL's argument) and why it is not legal (NFLPA's argument).

NFL Lockout: League, NFLPA Confirm Meetings

It's been widely reported that officials from the NFL and NFLPA met in Chicago on Wednesday and again on Thursday to discuss the NFL lockout. We thought at one point that the two sides had gotten together on their own which could have provided us with some legitimate optimism that they were working on getting a deal done.

Sources: Tom Cable fined $120K by Oakland Raiders in 2010 - ESPN

"As former Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable was attempting to lead his team to the playoffs, owner Al Davis began deducting $20,000 from each of his head coach’s paychecks until he had withheld $120,000 in fines, according to team sources. In turn, Cable filed a grievance against his owner with the NFL, becoming the latest Raiders head coach to be embroiled in a financial dispute with his owner. Now NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will appoint an arbitrator to whom the Raiders and Cable will have to submit legal arguments and witnesses. The arbitrator then will make the final ruling."

DeMaurice Smith Named NFLPA Executive Director

"Who?" "Yawn!" "Do I Even Care?" Yes, you do, whether you realize it or not. The new head of the players' union was a dark horse candidate to say the least: a lawyer who was not a former player and relatively unknown in NFL circles. I'm sure Roger Goodell was licking his chops at the prospect of hornswoggling Troy Vincent or Trace Armstrong, arguably the favorites going into this weekend's voting, during the next round of Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations. Now, it looks as though he has a formidable foil. The implications to the NFL are huge. As we learn more about this man in the coming months, it will be interesting to see whether he will establish the kind of relationship with Goodell that the late Gene Upshaw had or whether things devolve into something that reminds us of Bud Selig and Donald Fehr (God forbid!).

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell raised the possibility of having a 17th regular-season game as an option to help settle some of the league's future labor problems. "We are actually looking at that as one alternative," Goodell said Tuesday at the NFL owners meeting in Atlanta, the same day that the league's owners voted unanimously to opt out of their labor deal with the players' union two years early. "We think that may have an impact on some of the things we would want to talk to the players about. It's on the table."
