Who knew? Our defense is tied for second overall in the NFL with 7 forced fumbles through the first half of the season.

Chiefs to Struggle with Shotgun/Spread Offenses?

I hate to quote Peter King again, but as you'll read, this item actually comes from The Football Outsiders, whom I deeply respect as football analysts. King's item 5.b. of "Ten Things I Think I Think" clearly focuses on my biggest worry about Pendergast running our defense: susceptibility to shotgun/spread offenses. This topic has been addressed before on AP, but I believe a refresher is in order. It is more likely than not that we will continue to see the proliferation of spread-style offenses in the NFL in the immediate future. Pendergast left one bottom-15 pass defense to run bottom-5 pass defense that set the record for the fewest total sacks in a season. Further compounding the problems: there is no Adrian Wilson in the Chiefs' defensive backfield. I'm as happy as anyone about this offseason, but I'm going to have a microscope on Pendergast. His track record leaves much to be desired.

Top Ten Questions About Today's Game...

I make no promises that this is going to be a regular segment. Absolutely none. 1. Finally, we face a real offense! Are we about to be exposed? I believe this team is on the path to redemption,...

Since defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham returned to Kansas City, his defense has been inch...

Since defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham returned to Kansas City, his defense has been inching back toward respectability. He outlined that much earlier this offseason by shedding light on the improving trend of total touchdowns surrendered by his defenses since 2004. The Chiefs gave up 50 touchdowns in 2004, 36 in 2005, 32 in 2006 and 28 a year ago. That’s progress, as mirrored by KC’s improvement in total defensive ranking over the same time period – from 31st to 25th to 16th and 13th last season.
