Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft -- Pick #25 by the Seattle Seahawks

And with the 25th pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select:

Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly

Draft Profile

ChiefSuni with the pick:

The Seahawks are in an interesting position going into this season as they try to make the most of Holmgren's last year while also laying the groundwork for the Mora era. They have had an active offseason, with notable acquisitions at RB and OL, and they also resigned Lofa Tatupu and Marcus Trufant to long term deals. Bringing in Malcom Kelly gives them a player who can help fill an immediate need for Holmgren's last hurrah but who will also be ready to transition into a #1 target in future years.

While Kelly has been known for durability concerns, his talent is undeniable. He's had impressive statistics at OU and has all the tools to be a great NFL WR. The Seahawks need to add depth at WR as Hackett was lost in free agency, Branch's injury is still a question mark, Burleson is inconsistent, and Engram, though dependable, is aging and badly needs someone else to step it up.

Other players considered for this pick were Balmer (lesser need and less proven, plus let's face it, this is a Chiefs site and we all hate UNC DTs thanks to Ryan Sims), Fred Davis (a reach and Engram already is their short yardage, middle of the field guy), Jonathan Stewart (they already got two new free agent RBs), and Manningham (less upside than Kelly).

What about RB?
ChiefSuni, I like the pick.  I think Kelly will be pretty damn good.

In your research did you see anything about the Seahawks taking a running back?  Julius Jones has been in a 2 back formation for a good part of his career and rumors are that Shaun Alexander is all but gone in Seattle.

Nice pick, just wondering.

Where does Maurice Morris fit in?

Re: Seahawks Running Backs
The Seahawks also signed TJ Duckett in addition to Jones, so I really don't expect them to pick a RB in the first round. Stewart is a local guy who is immensely talented, so I can see a small chance (10% maybe) of them drafting him regardless of need, but it would beg the question of why they signed two free agent RBs as well.

Alexander's future is up in the air--the difference toward the cap between keeping him and cutting him is minimal. John Clayton, who is from this area and is on sports talk radio here a lot, keeps emphasizing that point and says the Seahawks will wait probalby until closer to training camp to make a decision on Alexander. My guess is that he'll be let go, and I would be very sure he's gone if they draft an RB on day one.

As for Morris, I haven't heard much. I don't think he's seen as being an every down back, hence the signing of JJ. Duckett is the short yardage guy, and maybe they'll keep Morris around as a 3rd down back given his pass catching ability and that the draw is one of the plays that he is most effective running.
