Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Morning Update (Schedule Edition)

  • Former Chief WR Samie Parker will become a Denver Bronco. Head on over to Mile High Report, where theSportsGuru has asked us to fill them in on Parker.

  • The price for Pacman Jones is going up.

  • After Glenn Dorsey, Matt Ryan, Vernon Gholston, Ryan Clady and Brandon Albert visited the Chiefs on Monday, the team will also host Duane Brown of Virginia Tech and Fernando Velasco of Georgia, cornerbacks Brandon Flowers of Virginia Tech, Reggie Corner of Akron and Cary Williams of Washburn and defensive lineman Brian Johnston of Gardner-Webb.

  • Check out this fantastic article at the Phinsider on the value of the #1 pick in the NFL draft.

  • In the future, I will link any article that mentions Eddie Kennison and "sucking on Mike Shanahan’s booty".

  • This is terrible -- "The 37-year-old brother of National Football League running back Michael "the Burner" Turner was the innocent victim of a shooting Friday night in North Chicago."

  • Rams player personnel boss Billy Devaney -- "You're wasting your time trying to predict what he's [Parcells] going to do because he's the master at it. What's he thinking? I don't know, I wouldn't pretend to know, and I won't try to predict."

  • Thoughts on a mock draft that has the Kansas City Chiefs taking two of the top corners with their first two picks?
The NFL schedules comes out today at 1 PM central time so make sure you check in about that time because I'll post it. Check the bottom right sidebar of the home page to find out who our opponents are.

I was holding out a smidgen of hope that the Chiefs would be able to land Jake Long this draft but I've given up all hope. It ain't gonna happen. You've known this for a while but I just now full accepted this reality. Virginia OG Brandon Albert may be my new pick at that spot.

What does it mean that the Chiefs did not host Darren McFadden or Sedrick Ellis yesterday with all of the other prospects? Right now...nothing. The logic cuts both ways. You could argue the Chiefs are genuinely interested in those players that visited yesterday and you could also argue that the visits were planned as a smoke screen to further confuse other teams. It's all a crap shoot right now.

I've got the Lions mock draft pick ready to go and I'll post it in a bit.

Wiegman and Parker
Can anyone elaborate Sammie Parker's and Wiegman's ability to hurt the Chiefs?  Clearly, I don't mean with their on-the-field play.  Instead, to what extent are these offensive players cognizant of Gunther's defensive strategies vis-a-vis the Broncos?  And have these guys seen Chan Gaileys offensive playbook?  Is this why the Broncos hired these guys?

Playbook
I seriously doubt it...they haven't had enough practice time yet to have been exposed to much of Gailey's offense.

Two Corners
no way will we draft two corners in Round 1...we may take a CB if we can trade down, but I don't think we will be trading away picks to move up for Talib.

Samie's a Bronco...
...and the Broncos are welcome to him.  It'll be fun watching Parker drop balls, run bad routes and fall down when he's wide open for someone else's team.  Anyone else get the idea that Ted Sundquist (the GM Denver fired) was the smart one in evaluating player personnel?

As for Jake Long, last I checked the draft hadn't happened yet so where ever he ends up is still not decided.  We've still got two weeks left so the draft order's got plenty of time to flip again and even if we don't pick Long we're likely to get somebody who can help us with that pick.

To be fair
Parker didn't really do much to warrant such ire from Chiefs fans. He just never developed into a strong #2 guy. It happens.

True But...
...he also didn't do anything that should make us like him.  He wasn't much more than a warm body.  I didn't hate the guy personally, I just thought he was not a very good player and was happy that his contract was up.  And now I'm happy he's signed with our division rival.  Off the field, though, I wish the guy well...it's not like he was another Andre Rison or Bam Morris.
