Love this pick
Some teams should look at him in the 1st round...

by primetime 07 on Apr 11, 2008 4:01 PM CDT   0 recs

It may be that its Friday
But I can't name any Buffalo Bills tight end.

by Chris on Apr 11, 2008 4:06 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Kevin Everett
was hurt last season, they were in need. What a story on Kevin, from paralyisis to walking again.

by Eric on Apr 11, 2008 4:26 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Seriously stop beeing homers
This pick is even worse than the Jordy Nelson pick. I can't even describe how bad it is.
Rucker as the 1st TE and on the first day is just wrong in so many ways.
Poor Bills.

by jimme on Apr 11, 2008 4:21 PM CDT   0 recs

jimme you must be an expert, because
every pick is either horrible or a homer pick.  GET OVER IT, this is just a fun mock draft.  Please stop crying if every pick doesn't go according to your precious mock draft.  As a Mizzou fan I love the pick, I hope T-Ruck goes first round!

by Tom Bahali on Apr 11, 2008 8:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Chill dude
Is it too much to expect that people signing up for a mock drafts actually do just a little bit of homework and consider the value of the players according to some of the experts like Mayock and Kiper?

Why do a mock draft if you aren't going to be serious about it. That is just silly and a waste of time.

by jimme on Apr 12, 2008 4:56 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I write for a mock draft website, DUDE.
I do a ton of research, check out my next mock it should be posted by Monday at NFLmocks.com I go by Jason.  Mayock has Matt Ryan as his number one overall prospect(yes he is representing BC, but give me a break) and McFadden as a late first round pick, so I could care less what he thinks.

by Tom Bahali on Apr 12, 2008 8:04 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The you obviously doesn't do a ton of research
Well, name one source that has Jordy Nelson 2A and Rucker as the best TE.
This is not about Mayock, but about the generel perception in draft nick ranks. McShay, Kiper etc.
And regarding McFadden, Mayock has him as the 11th best players in the draft. Where I come from that isn't in the bottom of the first round.

by jimme on Apr 12, 2008 1:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Only a game
Anyway. I don't care. I'm just kind of surprised.
It is just a game after all. :)

Apologies if I pissed people off.

by jimme on Apr 12, 2008 1:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I never said I thought that Rucker was a 2nd round
pick, He will be a mid 3rd round pick.  I just like it for the reason that I'm a MIZZOU fan.  Jordy Nelson might not be 2a but he won't be there if we wait until round 3, in this mock draft with no trades I took him.  He is a low risk player in round 2 that would contribute from day one.  Low risk meaning won't cause any trouble, will work hard, do what the coaches ask of him, and contribute solid numbers as a slot WR.  I've seen a few people compare him to Kevin Walter from the Texans, I would take that.

by Tom Bahali on Apr 12, 2008 2:04 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

So you think Mendenhall > McFadden
Mayock is a joke IMO.  Those two guys watch the same tape as everyone else, they're just the ones on TV.  Doesn't make them anymore of an expert than Tom Bahali.

by Chris on Apr 12, 2008 11:36 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I second that about Mayock
I like how he breaks down film though, but if we are talking about homers jimmee then look no further than your man Mayock!

by Tom Bahali on Apr 12, 2008 11:45 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I am beeing a homer? I choo-choo-choose to bee!
Yes, clearly, it's a terrible pick to take the big, athletic tight end with killer hands and incredible upside for a team that lacks offensive weaponry. Silly me!

Oh, and incidentally, because of his size, he fits well with the blocking scheme too.

Not criticising Herm Edwards for anything since December '07.

by Ridiculous Matt on Apr 11, 2008 4:50 PM CDT   0 recs

hmm
well i agree on that much.  he's definitely a good player, and his size would most certainly help in the blocking scheme.  maybe that would've been some good information to include in your vivid "why they should draft him" description...

Hometown Bias
I think it's actually kind of unavoidable on sites like this once you get out of the first round.  The expertise of most us is focused mainly on teams in our area (in my case, the Big 12 and KU in particular), we don't have hordes of scouts at our disposal and there's probably a great disparity between the number of games we watch in our area of interest versus the number we watch outside our area of interest.  Simply put, most of us wouldn't know enough about the players outside our area to start picking wisely once the big name talent disappears so we start overrating the talent of players at schools that we do know.

by UCrawford on Apr 12, 2008 10:45 AM CDT   0 recs

mayock, kiper, mcshay
rarely do these guys get more than a handful of picks actually right.

the nfl draft is so fluid and whimsical, it is impossible to accurately predict. so, if you just glanced at a list of the prospects generally accepted to be at the top, somebody who has watched all of zero games or tape or any of that could probably get close to as many right as the "experts" do.

so, with this being a "fun" mock draft, lets leave the blatant call-outs to a minimum.

by rockchalk on Apr 12, 2008 2:36 PM CDT   0 recs

Thanks TWSS
Now, about Anthony Collins in the 2nd round..

by primetime 07 on Apr 12, 2008 6:44 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

What do you
think of A.C. in the second round? DJ laid it out that he may not be suitable for LT, but may be better at right in the pros, and we need one of them too. In a pinch, due to injury or something we have a guy with LT experience.

by Eric on Apr 13, 2008 12:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Collins takes plays off and he chops his feet
instead of sliding in pass blocking, thats a no no in the NFL.  I could see him dropping to the 4th round, maybe further.  I could see AC move inside to guard and be a very good player there.

by Tom Bahali on Apr 13, 2008 12:51 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

So he is
much like Macintosh, I am no talent scout , not even real good at the research, but I believe Mac would be good at the guard position.

by Eric on Apr 13, 2008 1:10 PM CDT   0 recs

Anthony Collins...
...was a consistently productive player at KU during his time there.  Honestly, I'm not sure where the "he takes plays off" criticism comes from...it wasn't a gripe I ever heard among KU fans, I saw most of the games and I never noticed him doing anything blatant that got his QB blown up (as the Chiefs' linemen very often did), and frankly Mangino wouldn't tolerate somebody who didn't put out effort on the field.  KU ran a very productive offense and Collins was a major factor in that.

If you're arguing that he's raw for the NFL level or that his technique can be sloppy, that I can understand because you can be very productive in college based on athleticism alone (and I'm not enough of an expert on the finer points of lineman technique to argue foot chops and slides) but I think the claims that he doesn't put out an effort are pretty unfounded.  He's rated the 65th best player in the draft on ESPN's boards, which indicates he's a high third-rounder and they're seeing the same things anyone else is seeing.

by UCrawford on Apr 13, 2008 1:50 PM CDT   0 recs

You wouldn't hear that gripe from ku fans
if they are winning.  At kansas he didn't go against one legit pro prospect at all last season.  His pass protecting was very sloppy, maybe because of the "elite" athleticism, he was injured, or maybe because that is how good it will be, who knows?  I'm sure with an NFL OL coach it will get better, but how much is anybodies guess.  I just don't see him as anything more than a late 3rd round pick.  UCrawford are you a ku fan?

by Tom Bahali on Apr 13, 2008 3:09 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm a MIZZOU fan, and I watched almost every ku
game as well.  Against the lesser opponents he took plays off repeatedly, that is something scouts are noticing on film.

by Tom Bahali on Apr 13, 2008 3:11 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Rock Chalk, Baby...
Does that answer your question, Tom? :)

In the spirit of magnanimity and because we're both Chiefs fans I promise not to hold your Tiger fandom against you, though...despite the fact that Missouri fans were a bunch of rude fuckers at the Border War this year :)

by UCrawford on Apr 14, 2008 12:57 AM CDT   0 recs

Enjoy your championship while you can
because MIZZOU will be North, Big XII, and BCS Champions next season!  kansas has to play OU, Texas, and  Texas Tech.  Good Luck with that you frauds!  Ok I had to get that out, now I'm done.

by Tom Bahali on Apr 14, 2008 1:11 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ha!
No more bears and cowboys for the jayhawks to beat up - now they have to play the "real" Big XII South.

by PVChiefsfan on Apr 14, 2008 7:16 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm Looking Forward To It...
...I don't like weak schedules, I think we would have whupped Texas year, and I doubt we would have lost by as much to Oklahoma as Missouri did :)  And, of course, we did beat an excellent team in the Orange Bowl this year, so I think the "fraud" argument's been pretty much discredited.  Like the Border War showed, I think Missouri and Kansas are comparable in football...which is why I'm looking forward to next year's matchup. :)

WE WENT INTO PREVENT EARLY IN THE 3RD
You can't say with a straight face that MU and ku are close in football.  That just made my day, HAHAHAHAHA.

by Tom Bahali on Apr 14, 2008 9:30 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Excellent team?
Weren't they without 3 or 4 of their best players?  This is why I can't stand ku fans, they think they are better than they really are.  Next you will tell me that ku is better than MIZZOU at baseball and wrestling too.

by Tom Bahali on Apr 14, 2008 9:32 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Except
the Sooners beat Mizzou twice, mostly by running the ball straight up their you know what.  And Temple did the same thing to KU in Arrowhead, so I imagine that OU's running attack would have dealt with the Jayhawks as well...I guess in 6 months or so we'll know.

by PVChiefsfan on Apr 14, 2008 12:32 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Correction
Meant to say "would have whupped Texas last season".  Four months into 2008 you'd think I'd have figured out that the 2007 season was last year...

by UCrawford on Apr 14, 2008 9:01 AM CDT   0 recs

We'll See...
Some people from schools that didn't go to a BCS bowl seem to believe 2007 was a fluke :) but frankly if it hadn't been for Kerry Meier being injured in the 2006 season (and us having to rely on Adam Barmann for a long stretch at QB) KU could easily have been 8-4 that year instead of 6-6 (with away victories in Lincoln and Toledo).  Mangino's assembled a competitive squad for the last three years and I think they'll hold their own against the Big 12 South just fine next year...even without Talib and Collins.  So long as they're able to find a competent replacement for McClinton on the defensive line (which was our weakest spot last season).

If Ricky Clemons never came to MIZZOU
We would have both Hansbrough's, Brandon Rush, and probably an NCAA championship.  I can play the if game too!

by Tom Bahali on Apr 15, 2008 12:03 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Heh, heh...
...you were never going to get Hansbrough.  Roy Williams had Hansbrough going to his clinics since he was a kid so he was going to UNC no matter what.

Also, let's not lose our heads here and assume that a trip to the Elite Eight was indicative of an impending national championship.  Problems with Clemons aside, Snyder was a good coach but he didn't do anything to prove he was a great coach on the cusp of a national title.  The entire Clemons situation, in fact, indicated that Snyder's and Missouri's problems went deeper than one guy (although I doubt anyone would have had much success with Clemons).

I think your current coach, Anderson, is going to be decent, though...he's had a lot to deal with but I think he's handling it the right way.  Not many guys would be able to go 16-16 after having that many off-court problems.  But I think he's going to create a better culture around there in the long term by cracking down on the troublemakers now.
