Pure Speculation: Could Pacman Jones be a Kansas City Chief?

Update: Check the comment section. This rumor is dead.

The following is 100%, pure speculation about Pacman Jones coming to Kansas City. It relies on message board rumors and other descriptions that may or may not be true. I don't usually address rumors like this but boredom in between election return coverage and an inability to go to sleep have influenced me greatly to write this.

Adam at Arrowhead Addict has been floating the possibility of the Chiefs signing Pacman Jones for some time now, most notably last week. The Chiefs desperate need for a corner coupled with the current lack of options at the position make Pacman Jones an interesting prospect for the Chiefs, Adam says. I happen to agree.

There was a thread over at Chiefs Planet (among other places I'm sure) about Pacman Jones calling into an Atlanta radio station recently saying that he would be very soon be on the roster of an AFC West team that wears red that also needs a corner. Let me be clear when I say this is 100% rumor.

Nick Athan of WPI recently said this during Senior Bowl week -- "What I can tell you is a source inside the Chiefs' organization related some shocking news. This team has plans that might surprise the fan base. Of all the things I learned this week, that might be the most exciting." Could it be the signing of Pacman Jones? That would definitely fall under "shocking".

Finally, current Chiefs DT Tank Tyler's agent is also Pacman Jones' agent.

So add these miscellaneous things up and what do you get? Nothing concrete. But we do get an interesting discussion for this morning.

Bring Pacman Jones to the Chiefs, put a ton of behavior clauses in his cheap contract and have Herm Edwards lock Pacman in a room like in the movie Trainspotting to get rid of his strip club addiction.

Your thoughts on Pacman Jones as a Kansas City Chief?

All I can say is
WOW.  Those rumors all added up equal a very interesting situation.  Could Pacman use this 2nd chance as a turning point and become the great CB/PR he showed flashes of early on?  If it were for KC and he was cheap enough - I am definitely for it!  I can't wait to read everyone else's thoughts.

It's all speculation and rumor
This could turn out to be nothing (And probably will).

I hear a lot of rumors and the pieces that are quasi coming together in this one make it at least interesting to look at.

I get that
just think it'd be interesting to consider.  When would he even be reinstated anyway?

by dkugler838 on Mar 5, 2008 8:24 AM CST up reply actions

Just covering my bases
I'm not sure when he's going to be reinstated. I think he may be suspended indefinitely.

No kidding!
Nothing like starting a rumor like this and having it blown way out of proportion!  (I'm probably doing it - as I have already emailed a buddy of mine asking him what he thought...)

Bam...Andre...Tamarick
Morris...Rison...Vanhover (well he started here first)

No just kiddin...I think everyone deserves a fair chance at a second shot.  I agree with the terms of the contract mentioned above.

this is crazy talk
even if they do bring him in we still need another cb ! i dont think hell play another down in the nfl for some time ! if the chiefs do get him it will have to be a pay as you play terms ! lol

Second Chances if Reasonable
I'm a big believer in second chances. I think that everyone had a right to try and correct the way they've built their life and fulfill their potential as human beings.

But the Kansas City Chiefs are not the team to do that on.

First off, we're going to have a ridiculously young team, having excoriated half the old dudes. With young players, you don't want an influence like that in the locker room. Even if he does turn it around, it's too risky.  We don't want to create an environment that breeds trouble, a la the Bengals.

Second, we already have attitude and legally troubled players.  We have the biggest malcontent I know with the largest contract in Chiefs history. Our next big superstar (assuming we get him a long term deal), has had multiple issues with DUI. Throwing in Pacman could be explosive.

And finally, we don't have a coach that will put up with nonsense. Do we want to ink him to a contract, pay him a large sum, only to have him disappear? Are we in that kind of position? If we can't "afford" to bring in hardly any free agent prospects, can we really take chances on a guy who's been out of the game for a year?

I want Pacman to get a second chance. I just don't think KC is the place to do it.

Not criticising Herm Edwards for anything since December '07.

Totally agree with you MAWK
Every word.

No...
... thank you.

Adam can seek his opportunities for chances in another town.

The characteristics which Herm continues to preach- toughness, hard work, character guys- do not appear evident in Mr. Jones.

As far as I'm concerned, he can enjoy his career in pro wrestling.

Sign him to an incentive laden 3 year contract
and put in the contract that the first off the field issue he has will be his last in KC.

I like the idea, especially if he's cheap
Just curious, I don't remember him ever being released by the Titans.  Did I just miss it?

RE
He's been given permission to seek a trade and Roger Goodell has said he'll keep Pacman out of football until before training camp. Suspended players can be traded just like regular players.

Of course, he could just decide to suspend him again so nothing is definite.

Hell yes
I have been getting hyphy about this possibility all offseason.  This addresses so many needs for us.  Young, shutdown corner and a solid return man.
Pull the trigger Carl.  After the year he's had he will be anxious to prove he can be on his best behavior.

Until he goes to Bazookas
for the first time and punches another woman, who happens to be an attorney - damn the luck!

RE
Bazooka's strip club is right by the KC Star headquarters, if I'm not mistaken.

Ha - I told my buddy
that's the first place Pac would "make it rain"

by dkugler838 on Mar 5, 2008 11:02 AM CST up reply actions

What has he done ...
to make us think he has changed his ways?

What will we do when he gets arrested, for doing who knows what, 2 days before we play San Diego for the division lead next year?

Why would we want to set ourselves up like that?

by Halfbreed5050 on Mar 5, 2008 11:03 AM CST reply actions

well written contract needed
a contract that has numerous causes that the NFLPA probably would not agree to is needed.  all these behavior clauses and incentives would be great, and for a guy like Adam Jones (The first step to rehab is ending the childish nickname), it might be the safety net needed to end his childish behavior.

More circumstantial evidence!
Just got a hit from the NFL.com servers in NYC searching for "pacman jones to kansas city chiefs".

by Chris Thorman on Mar 5, 2008 11:13 AM CST reply actions

Just got off the "phone" with
someone in the know.

Pacman is just trying to drum up interest in himself. The reference to KC during that Atlanta radio interview came as a shock to the Chiefs. They don't have any interest in Pacman.

So, thats that apparently.

Thanks
At least we know what the situation is now instead of talking about something that has about a 0% chance of happening.
