Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft -- Pick #2 by the St. Louis Rams

And with the #2 overall pick in the 2008 Arrowhead Pride Community Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams select:

Michigan OT Jake Long

Draft Profile

DThomas Reigns on his pick:

The nearly fascist ownership of the Rams recently made HC Scott Linehan a lame duck HC during their annual "grill the coach" meeting between ownership and their coach. They then promptly hired Al Saunders as the OC to reclaim their offensive glory years.

Yeah, after last year's embarrassment, they want to get better on offense. QB = got one. RB = got one. 1st round DL = got one last year. WR= got an aging one but can't spend a #2 pick on this crop of players. Ancient LT about to retire = got one on IR.

Jake Long can play RT (where many scouts think he will play in the NFL) until Pace retires, then move to LT.

An offensive minded HC, master OC, and the obvious desire to banish the terrible OL play last year that nearly killed their newly minted $60+ million QB, means they are going offense, and the only player to merit the #2 pick for the STL is Jake Long. You don't threaten the offensive HC, pay insane money to the OC (familiar from your glory years), and expect the team to go defensive.

They won a Super Bowl with no defense, spent last year's 1st on a DL, and are going to try to recreate their run by making sure the aging Torry Holt, expensive QB, and stud RB have a chance to inhale after the snap by securing the OL.

1. Miami Dolphins - QB Matt Ryan
2. St. Louis Rams - OT Jake Long

On the clock: Atlanta Falcons (Moose Knuckle)

Nice write-up
I think they will take Jake Long.  Apparently they have been looking at Gholston pretty hard as well.

They got the QB under a big contract so they just need someone to protect him.  I like it.

BTW, thanks primetime07
If the Rams select Jake in the real draft, I will cry for about five minutes.

After that, I will high step from the fridge after grabbing a beer and hold it up ala Deion.  Guessing the right pick will be my only solace knowing we didn't get Jake.

If we are able to draft Jake Long and Branden Albert (I dream about this every night), I will fly back to KC, streak the field during our home opener, and sloppily french kiss Carl Peterson - thereby getting arrested and losing my job...oh, and getting body slammed by KC Wolf.

But it would be absolutely worth it.

Breaks my heart, but good choice.
The only thing I disagree with is that the Rams won the SB with no defense.  They ranked 4th in points allowed and 6th in yards allowed that year.

Good catch
I was writing from memory and you can see how well that worked. :)

Nice theory except for...
...Pace has said he has no intention of retiring and wants to play two more years.  And with his contract he's untradeable and pretty much unwaiverable unless the Rams want to find themselves in salary cap hell next year.

I noted that
and that is why I wrote that Long could play RT (where many scouts think he would be a better pro) until Pace retires.

Wow
this will be interesting. On my draft we are on pick #2 and we didn't match either.  Usually you would match the first 5 for so.

Herm
Didn't you quote that there would be a press conference today with Herm? Any word on that?

by Sportivo on Mar 24, 2008 2:38 PM CDT   0 recs

Foreshadowing
Whenever a team starts trying to sell the public on the idea that OTAs in surrounding cities is news worthy of a press conference you know the hidden message is "We're really going to suck, but maybe if you connect personally with the players you'll still buy tickets".
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

And I thought 15 minutes
was a long time to wait on the next pick!  LOL

Errr, Chris
I'm supposed to pick for the Raiders at #4, not the Falcons at #3.

I can do the Falcons if you want, but I think Moose Knuckle has them.

No worries
I expected some bumps when we began, especially when I label the draft wrong.

I'm going to e-mail him. If I don't hear from him, we'll vote tomorrow morning.

Alright
The original draft order list I had was mixed up. Sorry about that.

Moose Knuckle will pick for the Falcons @ #3. Then DJ and then we'll be fine.

To be fair to Moose Knuckle, I'm going to give him at least until tomorrow. It wouldn't be fair to think you were going tomorrow, only to be forced out the day before.
