Morning Update (Out Sick Edition)

  • Another person who feels like the Chiefs shouldn't have done much in free agency.

  • Michael Ash moves from Real Football 365 to WPI and reviews the Chiefs' wide recievers.

  • Kicker Jason Elam's name has been mentioned in connection with the Chiefs but he's visiting the Falcons.

  • Draft time drama -- The Raiders say they couldn't pass on DE Chris Long if he was there at no. 4.

  • Carolina WR Steve Smith, on playing against CB Deangelo Hall again -- "Poppa don't lose no fights when the kids are around."

  • Jason Taylor gets paid for this, right?
Oh man, I'm sick today which accounts for our weak set of morning links. Let me catch a little more sleep and I'll be back later this morning.

He said they play again this year
And that his kids will be at the game.  So he doesn't lose when his kids are around.

Raiders
A while ago there was an article (I think on MVN) that compared the rebuilding strategies of the Chiefs and Jets, both 4-12 last season.  He could have also compared the Chiefs to the Raiders.  They also went 4-12, and have not done a good job of drafting recently so they are hopping on the FA money train to nowhere.  If they do end up trading away their 2nd and 6th round picks for Hall, they will only have 3 picks in April (1st, 4th, and 7th) as they already traded away their 3rd rounder - not exactly the way to rebuild a 4-12 team.  I for one hope the Hall deal goes through...spending that much money and draft picks on 2 CB's means that for a few years their o-line will look like the 2007 Chiefs line...Allen should have a field day :)

On the other side
the Falcons have a great shot in this draft - not only do they have the #3 pick, but if the Hall trade goes through, Atlanta would have 3 second round picks, 2 of which would be in the first 6 picks of round two.  If their scouts and player personnel guys are worth a dawn, the Falcons could get 4 starters right there on day one of the draft - I wish we had 3 second round picks; that could solve the o-line thing really well :)

Holy Smokes,
never thought of it like that. Should they have a good day on day 1 of the draft, they already will improve their team to atleast 8-8. However, the draft is basically one big "educated guess", and if you don't believe me, then look up the term bust. The way I like to look at draft picks is their percentage of success, which I obviously made up. For example, when we drafted Tamba, I would have said about 60 to 70%, but calvin johnson I would rate as around a 80 to 90%. It really is a smart way of looking at it I think, but it is still obviously is opinion. Perhaps we have a mathmetician on this site? I am willing to set aside my differences with one and come up with a good system and rank a few players we are thinking of. Ugh...Math...
