Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Al Davis did what?

From the diaries. Thanks for picking up the slack. -- Chris

Apparently, we Chiefs fans are not the only ones chuckling at all the FA moves the Faders have made.  I knew they overpaid Walker, but I had no idea it was this bad -

"But Walker's cap figure in 2009 is $10.833 million -- for a player who missed half of last season and whom Denver coach Mike Shanahan said might need microfracture surgery.
To put his numbers in perspective, look what New England did to keep wide receiver Randy Moss. The Patriots signed him to a three-year deal that averages $9 million per, with a $12 million signing bonus. Moss' cap figure in 2009 is $10.507 million, which is hefty but less than Walker. Moss caught an NFL-record 23 touchdown passes this season; Walker caught none."

Question
I know we all like to poke fun at the Raiders, because its so easy, but on a serious note I wonder if this is just Al being Al or is there another person in management watching over the expenses?  Maybe Al isn't all there anymore and his limited intelligence makes him think he is doing the right thing.  In other words, Alzheimer's maybe?  I would hate to see him ruin the organization financially.

I've heard
That there for a while Al was letting someone else run alot of the stuff but that recently he has taken back almost complete control.

I don't know what the deal is.  With him throwing money around like that I would think he is betting the salary cap is going to be gone after 2009, but he's not signing good players.  He's just overpaying average ones.  So I don't know whats going on.

Salary Cap
can someone explain what not having a salary cap would mean for the NFL?  Would football end up like baseball, with large market teams outspending small ones 10 to 1 (ala Yankees and Royals)...that would be the end of the NFL...who wants to watch teams like the Patriots, Cowboys, Eagles, etc. absolutely crush the Chiefs, Packers and other smaller market teams just because they spent more on their QB than we did on our whole offense?
