Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Friday Afternoon Reading

  • Make sure you check out this great article from the WSJ on Tony Gonzalez and his decision to switch to a vegan diet before the '07 season -- "'I was scared out of my mind,'" he says. Standing on the scale, he learned he'd lost 10 pounds." (Thanks gritsnyc!)

  • I should have mentioned this yesterday but Jason Dunn is apparently close to retirement and the Chiefs will not draft Darren McFadden if he's available when the Chiefs pick.

  • This makes me want to use WordPress. KC Chiefs Fanatic has their first installment of the Fanatic Focus, a podcast by lead writer Chris. I've been on a few podcasts here and there and they've always been fun.

  • Pride of Detroit has a post on the soon-to-be departed DT Shaun Rogers. Primetime mentioned Rogers earlier this week in a diary.

  • No more smoking at the Truman Sports Complex.

  • Pretty much everything I've read, like this PFW article, has praised USC DT Sedrick Ellis. His stock is definitely way up.

  • And for your afternoon "I glad I'm here and not there" link, the Monte Carlo casino in Las Vegas caught fire just a bit ago. Actually, on second thought, I wouldn't mind being in Vegas right now.
The Senior Bowl kicks off Saturday at 3 PM central time so I'll be here with an open thread running. At least this is some kind of football, instead of not getting anything at all.

Finally, I leave you with this video of a Red Bull Air Force guy parachuting into Qualcomm Stadium. Some bee hits his helmet at the end of the video.

McFadden
so we won't draft him according to Teicher?

Yeah
But I wouldn't assume it can't happen. Around draft time, people get crazy.

Teicher likes to pretend he knows things
Just like when he said our new offensive coordinator was going to be Paul Hackett.  He makes a guess and prints it.  If he's right he gets to say he got a scoop. If he's wrong he pretends he never said it.

Not saying we should or shouldn't draft McFadden, just saying you take everything Teicher says with a grain of salt.

I thought TG
Signed a three year contract for 17 million did they get it wrong in the article stating he signed a five year deal? More than likely I got it wrong though. If he did sign a five year deal he is the type of guy to fulfill it.

I'm pretty sure it's five years...
...because I remember saying something to the effect of "Does he really have five years left in him?!" when the contract was signed.

I have all the Senior Bowl coverage
recorded on my DVR and now I finally have time to watch it before the game at 3 tomorrow!

Must be nice to have the Network
Is the price similar to Time Warner's cable package?

by Joel Thorman on Jan 26, 2008 8:04 AM CST up reply actions

I have DirecTV and love it
Its 59 bucks a month for 2 receivers, a DVR, and the basic package which includes NFL Network.

Monte Carlo
I live here in Vegas and I got a perfect view of it burning right outside of my office.  It was a nice diversion from work, but nothing serious.

Monte Carlo
No, despite the way it looked it was all exterior damage.  After the MGM fire from the 80's you'd be hard pressed to find buildings that take more measures against a fire than the Vegas casinos.  All of the floors basically operate independently of each other for air and water systems, so none of the smoke even made it to any other floors.

I guess that makes sense
Wynn's hotels (Bellagio and Wynn) probably cost several billionM together.
