Morning Update (Hump Day Edition)

Ah the dreaded Wednesday of football season. Truly a hump day during the NFL regular season. The game from last week has been hashed out. Next week's game is just a bit far away to blow all of the good commentary so early in the week. Where does that leave us? At the moment, I'm working on NFL power rankings for the week. The SB Nation football guys are getting together to do a site-wide conglomeration of power rankings. Think BlogPoll for the NFL. I'll drop my power rankings in the comment section when I get done with them. Feel free to do the same (or top 10, top 15 or however many you feel like ranking).

The Chiefs just have too many unknowns at this point with their offense to put them much higher. We'll see where they stand throughout the season.

Huh?
Seahawks 15?  They have just as good a chance to win the NFC as anyone.  Def not 49ers over broncos/bengals/steelers.

Ha
I told I did it quickly. Next week will be more thought out...

Don Banks
Don Banks is the same wanker that picked the Chiefs last in the AFC West.    Who cares what he thinks?

It's Chiefs season baby!!

I am psyched!!

You play to win the game!

Rice goes to the Donkeys
Does Rice have any fuel left in the tank?  If so, this could be bad for us.  What does everybody think?

by PVChiefsfan on Sep 5, 2007 10:21 AM CDT reply actions

I don't think Rice
will dominate by any means. It looks like from the depth chart that he will start. I'm more worried about their first round pick Jarvis Moss in the coming years. MHR said he is a "talented stop-gap".

Rice
is the talented stop-gap.

Jarvis Moss
i don't know much about him...can we expect him to perform similarly to what we have seen from OUR most recent 1st round defensive lineman, Hali?  If so, we need to draft some good O linemen, quickly :)

by PVChiefsfan on Sep 5, 2007 2:34 PM CDT reply actions

Speaking of...
Offensive linemen...when ARE we going to use a first day draft pick on a O lineman.  Wiegmann isn't ancient but he's not going to be around forever and Macintosh is just a band-aid like Roaf was.  I'd like to see us spend a high draft pick on another o-lineman and keep him for the majority (if not all) of his career like we did with Shields.

by PVChiefsfan on Sep 5, 2007 2:38 PM CDT reply actions

That would be ideal
We'll see where the draft picks fall after this year. That will be the determining factor.

by Chris Thorman on Sep 5, 2007 2:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Band-aid?
I would take a band-aid like Roaf for another 4 years.  Arguably the best tackle ever.  But I know what you're saying.  The truly elite left tackles are usually taken in the top 10 of the draft, which we have (luckily?) only been in once in over the last decade.

by Joel Thorman on Sep 5, 2007 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Roaf in the Band-aid HOF?
Ok, so it is a good thing that we haven't had the opportunity to draft a top ten O-lineman in a while.  THough isn't it usually left tackles that go that high...I am sure that you could get a good guard at 23...or you could pick Niswanger in the 6th round and then cut him :) Couldn't Houston have built a whole o-line of top 10 draft picks by now?...the oldest one would just be starting his 5th season.

Left Tackles
A franchise left tackle only comes along every couple of years.  They are very important because they protect your biggest investment.

by Joel Thorman on Sep 6, 2007 8:12 AM CDT up reply actions

I have a clever plan
Why don't the Chiefs fool everybody by drafting a franchise right tackle in the first round and then...here is the surprise...a left-handed quarterback.  Aha!  Why aren't there very many left-handed QB's?

One more Rice comment
When Strahan was considering retirement I read an interview with NYG other DE (the guy with the impossible-to-pronounce last name) in which he was asked if he would welcome Rice.  He totally dogged on Rice because he was weak against the run.  This would force the Giants to move him into Strahan's vacant left end spot so that Rice could play right end and most running plays would go away from him.  I am sure that Evil Genius Herm Edwards :) will take that into account and shove LJ down Rice's throat until the Donkeys start run blitzing a LB in there.

Just read
that Rice could have had more money in Tampa but chose Denver instead.
