The Official Brodie Croyle Pick 'Em Contest

After it was revealed on Fox (and on KCChiefs.com) that Herm Edwards was close to pulling QB Damon Huard in favor of Brodie Croyle during the second half of last week's game, I had an idea. Its clear that Damon Huard will not be able to play at the level necessary to keep him in the entire season. At this point, he's simply playing his way from game to game. So, while we're waiting to see if Brodie Croyle is our QBOTF, let's have some fun.

In the first official contest in AP's history, you guess the time and the game that Brodie Croyle will replace Damon Huard as the Chiefs starting QB. I'm sure we'll have enough picks to make the time requirement necessary.

More specifically, because its possible Huard may get injured in a game and come back to play at a later date, at what point does Brodie Croyle enter a Chiefs' football game and remain the starter for the rest of the season? Of course, you can pick the beginning of a game as well which may end up being your best bet. The one closest to the correct time will win. Obviously, a little luck is involved.

The prize will be something like the "Real Deal" trading card pictured. What's that you say? I'm going to give away a Greg Hill trading card? You did indeed read that correctly. And yes, I am made of money. Obviously.

First, if you haven't gotten a user name already, you'll need to register here at the site to leave your prediction in the comment section. This will be a great time to finally jump in the conversation for you lurkers out there.

To give you a sample prediction (mine in fact), I think Brodie Croyle comes in for good after halftime of the Oakland Raider game in Week 7. A divisional away game against a decent defense, nearly half way through the season seems like the recipe. But I'm not picking so feel free to steal that one.

Croyle will see some time against the Chargers this week and he'll look pretty good, not good enough to pull the game out for us, but pretty good. He'll come in for good at the start of the second half of the Jacksonville game after we fall behind again. He could help us win that one. Final Answer. I'm locking it in!

I hate picking the same as someone else

but halftime of the Jacksonville game makes sense to me. The Jaguars have a nice defense and we'll probably have a goose egg on the scoreboard going into the half. Herm decides to roll the dice to try to get a score. Brodie comes in a puts together a couple of nice drives. He connects with Tony G. and Bowe for TDs. One drive leads to a field goal. Final score: Jax 20, Chiefs 17. Brodie starts for the rest of the year (as long as he's healthy).

Herm's too stubborn...

... to put him in this early in the season. He'll buckle when it's clear that the postseason is lost and will do so in a way which provides Brodie the most time to prepare and (in typical Herm-fashion) ease his way into it.

I'm calling my shot- Brodie will be named the starter on Oct 22nd- the day after we lose to Oakland at Oakland.

He'll have a Bye week to prepare and will start (for the rest of the season-barring injury) at home on November 4 vs. Brett Favre and Green Bay.

You can keep the card- just post on the front page that I was the one who first called it.

I used to have a Greg Hill jersey

that card would bring back a lot of great memories for me.

Herm is reluctant to pull Huard after a couple mediocre performances, but after stumbling in the first half against the Packers, Croyle gets brought in in the second series of the second half, and performs ok, well enough to win the starting job. Herm will keep it simple for the kid, not letting him open it up, just dumbing down the offense, but Croyle will put together a two good drives to give Chiefs fans hope for the future. Huard is relegated to the bench, where he finishes out his career as a backup and the butt of jokes/pranks to rookies at minicamp.

No Start for Croyle

I don't believe Herm will Start Croyle until Huard starts throwing interceptions, and I don't think Huard will start throwing interceptions. While I do believe Croyle will play, it will only be while Huard is hurt, or when we are already behind and the game is probably lost. Each week, I predict Huard will remain the starter.

My thinking is that Herm will try and give Croyle the starting job again next year.

The exception: If Huard gets hurt at any time long enough for Croyle to play a significant amount--or if Croyle ever leads us back after we've fallen behind... then Croyle will start. While I could see either of those two events happening, I can't count on them, so I'm going with the no-start prediction.

Question Mark

I think that's what Brodie Croyle is. ? I'm not at all sold that he is the QBOTF. He couldn't take the job that was practically handed and I'm not sure that he will take it away. I think it's possible he's a long-term NFL backup. Anyway, as far as the contest. I'm in for NEVER.

We need a legit QB of the future. It's the most important position on the field so I hope it's worth a lot to the Chiefs front office.

2nd half of Green Bay

I had something written up about how it won't be until late November because Huard won't play poorly enough to make a change but the truth is the offense in general will continue to struggle somewhat and people (everyone from Carl/Herm to the fans) will want to see what Brodie can do.

even though huard played good

in the second half, i would love croyle to start against SD. that wont happen though, so i will say:

HALFTIME THIS WEEK @ SAN DIEGO

i dont know if anyone else picked it or not, i dont remember, but i think huard will struggle big time this week and herm will go with croyle at halftime.

Disagree

I think Herm understands that SD is a real, real tough match-up no matter who is at QB. Hopefully he knows that Huard is less likely to turn it over than Brodie, b/c if we are going to be anywhere near in this game we can't let the turnover battle get out of control.

I don't think he'll bench him this week, maybe a game in the future where Huard has a chance to put up numbers but can't.

what makes you think croyle

is more of an INT liability than huard?

huard has thrown 3 INT's so far this season (albeit 2 of them werent his fault) and fumbled last week. croyle would throw his fair of INT's, sure, but i would bet he could cut it down to 1 a game after a couple of games, and there will be a lot more downfield throws.

Past experience

One of Huards few seasons where he had multiple starts was last season and in eight games he threw one pick.

Croyle is much younger and much more green in this offense. Of course he is more likely to make most mistakes.

Huard with 3 INTs, averaging one a game which is where you want Croyle to be? 1 a game? And 2 of those weren't Huards fault.

Torn

I see one of two things happening: Croyle takes over right before the Colts game (where Huard should have gone in last January!!!), and finishes out the season,

OR...

Croyle is brought in at various times to relieve an injured Huard, and his play is bad enough that Herm NEVER starts him.

I am going with my number one pick there (before Colts game), but if #2 happens, then my only hope is that we continue to lose this year so that we can get the first round draft pick next year and get a really good franchise QB. It's hard to see us sucking more than the Falcons, though.

Let's see, I will call it late in the game this weekend at San Diego. Not sure what time... I'll just call it the start of the 4th quarter.

Hopefully he does well in what I hope isn't garbage time, that will give him a little confidence/experience to get ready for the home game against Jax. At that time he takes the reigns for good...

Croyle

After a devastating loss in Oakland that will surely have me self medicating until my healthy liver is a fond and faint memory, I suspect that King Carl will counsel Herm on what to do after the bye week. That wisdom will be to start Croyle against a surprising Packers team that will come out and eat Croyle alive. This of course will have me on every liver transplant list in the country as well as eBay and the Asian Pacific black market as alcohol abuse kicks into high gear and I deliver an Oscar winning performance a la Nicholas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas when I give my own rendition in a masterpiece called Leaving Kansas City...
