Open Thread - Kansas City Chiefs (0-3) v. St. Louis Rams (1-2)

I botched the open thread by accidentally writing over an old open thread I was cutting and pasting from. stevedebergHOF got a game thread up in the diaries though.

When: Noon, Central time

Where: Reliant Stadium, Houston, TX

Listen to the Chiefs game online here.

Its here.

Its finally here.

2 hours and counting as I type this until the Kansas City Chiefs kick off their season against the Houston Texans. I don't really have much to say here. The excitement of the moment has me a bit caught up. Since last season, a few friends and I have taken it upon ourselves to deem every Chiefs gameday, Chiefsmas. In fact, I woke up to multiple messages this morning wishing me a happy Chiefsmas.

Game predictions? 24 to 13, Chiefs. That includes one defensive TD for the good guys. Yours?

GO CHIEFS!!!

I'm
catching up on Hard Knocks as we speak. That B2 bomber camera angle over Arrowhead in the 3rd episode may just be one of the coolest shots I've ever seen.

I'll more than likely
not be by the computer it turns out. If my other plans fall through, I'll be here.

Please
I went to school in KC and fortunatley, KC never gets away with anything at all...so I can't relate....The 99 team??? superbowl champs.. love em...the 2002 team was nice too....went all the way to the super bowl and lost by a field goal in the snow....Remember when the Chiefs won a playoff game that one year???? It was 14 years ago, but man...it seems like just yesterday.  Bla Bla Bla...soda not pop, you won in 1985, we've won more world series than any team except the yanks....and so on and so on.  Bottom line is that St. Louisans think of Kanas City as kind of a retarded little brother...and a girly one at that.  Your town is centered around shopping and your sports facilities are lined up in a dirty field by the side of highway....Its like a game of Sim City gone awry.  Pre-Season or not....Go Rams....Go Cards.

Why do you guys think
St. Louis is an east coast city?  It's not.

by Joel Thorman on Aug 30, 2007 7:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Heard it
St. Louisans despise the east coast......ESPN in particular.  Thats an old cliche' that means nothing.  Lucky for you we're here to represent the midwest, or things would be pretty sad round these parts....but hey......kansas city has cool stuff like the plaza (aka...the gay/metrosexual capital of the world...talk about east coast wanna be!!!!!)  you been to st. louis lateley? I don't recommend going....you won't feel at home or safe anywhere you go if you've spent your whole life in kc.  STL = most dangerous city in the States....google it....the FBI can back me up there.  KC=Soft city, soft guys, soft fans......the males in this city are bitches....thats why you're paying out the ass just to renevate your shit stadiums instead having your owners build new ones and cover respectable portions of the cost.  after all....they're the ones that profit.....all they had to do was say....we'll move the royals and chiefs.....and everyone panicked.....becuase you know your city is on the bubble and probably can't support multiple sports teams......grow some balls fellas....and maybe you'll get a team or two......in the mean time...........RAMS win.........eat it.......peace and chicken grease

It's hard to listen to anyone
talk shit on someone else's stadium when they play in a dome.  A dome.  That's not football at all.  I went to a Rams game once and they are not loud at all and people were wearing khaki pants and collared shirts.  KC is soft?

by Joel Thorman on Aug 31, 2007 6:54 AM CDT up reply actions

You can't be serious?
St. Louis is bragging that they are "the most dangerous city in the states"? That's pathetic, how in any way does that benefit your city or help make it better than another one? This just goes to show how ignorant/arrogant St. Louis fans are...You brag about murder, how many championships the cardinals have won (they've been around more than 70 years longer than the Royals), how you're the "greatest baseball fans in america" (as voted by the sporting news, a publication based out of stl, and even they don't claim that anymore), how well you support multiple teams (the rams have barely been there 10 years, you can't sell out games, and playing in a dome is a joke), how great your teams are (both the cardinals and rams play in the easiest divisions in their sports)...I absolutely hate everything about St. Louis, even when I was at the Chiefs game last year it made me sick. Aren't you ashamed that the Chiefs fans were louder than the Rams fans, and most likely outnumbered them too? How can you take pride in either team, let alone your city? Maybe one of your teams will barely finish over .500 again this year and make it into the playoffs, and then all you St. Louis fair-weather fans will come out of the woodwork and brag that your city is god's gift to the world. Best of luck in those incredibly tough divisional races, you should hide in a hole if you don't come out on top in both.

Croyle
isn't getting much help from his receivers tonight.

And I'm just giving STL a hard time because I'm from KC. It makes the last game of the preseason at least  entertaining.

Hope nobody gets hurt.

Kolby Smith
may have just gotten Derrick Ross cut from the team with that huge run. The offensive line made me feel comfortable for a second there.

Gus Frerotte
is looking good.  Or our defense is that bad....?

by Joel Thorman on Aug 30, 2007 7:57 PM CDT reply actions

Bad decision.
But still a hell of an interception for STL

Terrell's pass
was one of the worst I've seen in a long time. That was Plummer-esque. And yes I know Terrell is naturally left handed.

Wow
What a catch by #86 for the Rams.

Never mind ...
Geez, 10-3. Preseason, or not, this is pitiful when you cannot score a single touchdown. We can say these games don't count, but they do in the psyche of the players. Herm has got his work cut out for him: He better get the team real ready, real better, real fast.
Like other True Believers, I'm counting on Huard and LJ to give us a competitive season, BUT, as I'm not the first to note, they don't play defense.
And neither, apparently, does anyone else, so far.
