An Offensive Offense

Who's to blame for the lack of production by the Chiefs offense? Head Coach Herman Edwards? How about the offensive line? Maybe inexperienced quarterbacks? These are all possibilities the media and public has thrown out, but what about the OC Mike Solari!

Star-divide

Here is a 2nd year coordinator that happened to be a former offensive line coach. An offensive LINE coach?!?!? Seriously, the lack of production falls on both the players and coaches, but, the play calling this pre-season and last has been some of the worst I have ever seen. Nothing is being done to get any kind of consistency. I agree with what Edwards wants to do with the offense, but nobody is ever going to see what Edwards envisions with Solari calling games this way.

disagree.
first off, in preseason you use the most simple plays in your playbook. you dont want to waste your good plays in the preseason, because then they go on tape and whatnot.

solari isnt too great, but he hasnt done a horrible job by any means and at least let him call some plays with LJ before you condemn him.

omg
Solari totally sucks.

Was I the only one watching the Indy game in the playoffs?  What kind of play calling was that?  TOTAL DISASTER.

You play to win the game!

it's not the playcalling most of the time
plays are designed for players to run.  i firmly believe no offense runs a play w/o the intention of it leading to a desired goal, whether that includes a first down, touchdown, or puts the team in field goal range.  solari, while obviously new at his position, did well enough w/ a backup qb to keep the offense respectable last year w/ below average receivers and tackles.  the ideology behind his playcalling is obviously different than that behind al saunders' playcalling.  anything beyond 3rd and 2 was a passing down for saunders, often even leading to run plays w/ 3 and 4 wide receivers or spread sets totally confounding defenses.  solari is more traditional, a more smash mouth kind of guy who will believe in running the ball more seriously than billy graham believes in jesus.  this should come as no surprise because solari was not only the o-line coach, but arguably one of the BEST offensive line coaches in the league.  the only negatives i see as him being our OC is him spending less time w/ the o-line(one reason often neglected by those critics of our front five) and the running play on more than 3rd and 4.  i say let him keep calling the plays for another year or two, then we can judge.

field goals
the other answer to the solari question could be herm's obsession w/ field goals, which solari really can't do anything about.

field goals
herm's obsession with field goals is maddening to me.  it's like he doesn't realize that it takes 3 field goals to top one touchdown and he actually enjoys 3 points more than 7.  i definitely think herm's ego forces him to try way too hard to prove his own defense/field goal philosophy is a winner, even to the point of not really caring about scoring touchdowns and sometimes it seems like he's even trying not to score touchdowns.

Why can't we have a coach that at acknowledges that in football, offense and defense are equally important?
