The Kansas City Chiefs QB Battle is Getting Easier to Decide

New poll up. VOTE!

All of the QB drama could come to a whimpering end if Damon Huard's sore calf doesn't heal quickly.

Huard didn’t practice Monday. He stood close by with an ice pack on his chronically sore right calf. He noticeably favored the leg when he walked.

Huard has been bothered by the sore calf during training camp, but this was the first time he missed a practice because of it. There was no indication the injury would keep him out long term, but the Chiefs were unsure whether he would practice today or play in Thursday night’s preseason game against New Orleans at Arrowhead Stadium.

Logic tells us since Damon Huard played in the first two preseason games and had been practicing, that his sore calf is flaring back up. It quietly came to light that Huard had a sore calf throughout training camp but nothing was ever made of it. Now, it seems that injury is nagging him to the point where he can't practice. I hope Huard's calf heals quickly but he has a very short window in order to make that happen if he wants the starting QB job. The Chiefs will more than likely be choosing a starting QB after Thursday's game. If Huard can't go, then Brodie Croyle it is.

If Damon Huard's injury keeps him from playing Thursday but he quickly recovers after that, you can bet Herm Edwards and the crew are secretly happy about Damon's sore calf. Why wouldn't you be? It makes a complicated decision involving many egos and personalities that much easier. With that said, get well soon Damon. We may need you after all.

Huard's Calf
Wasn't he complaining about that in the 2nd Hard Knocks?

I first remember hearing about it.

I thought
that in the first episode when they first started breaking down the qb position battle that they had said something about him having a bad calf...pretty gutsy of him to keep pushing himself even if he wasn't 100%. Priest, take notes.

RE
How does this relate to Priest? He's not practicing with the team yet because Herm doesn't want to give up a roster spot for him just yet.

Maybe you're right
I guess I was trying to compare two different things.  I understand Priest was told to refrain from practicing until he was cleard to play, but did he find out just 5 days before training camp that he was cleared? I don't know when he found out, or how much time he had to prepare, but I thought he decided to go to camp because he had a dream or something like that.  Does anyone know when he was actually given the O.K. to try and play football again?

He was given the okay
a few days before training camp.  But there's a difference between being medically cleared to play and being in playing shape.  I think Herm is trying to achieve the latter.

One wonders if this isn't an injury of convenience
Sort of like the Royals disabling someone with a "pulled hamstring" to make room for someone on the major league roster.
