A look at the Kansas City Chiefs '07-'08 schedule
From the diaries. primetime07 did such a hell of a job that I had to promote this. I'm in agreement with about 95% of this, although 5 or 6 plays could mean the difference between 10-6 and 6-10. -Chris
I wanted to take a peek at the Chiefs schedule this year. Because we play in arguably the toughest division and the better conference, it's a must that we dominate the NFC (like we did last year, hello playoffs..). We have 2 games against the most talented team in the league in SD and 2 more against Denver. Not an easy task, especially with Denver's home field advantage. However, being matched up with the NFC North this year has a number of advantages (3 of them to be exact). On to the schedule..
Week 1
@ Houston Texans: When the schedule came out I looked at this and immediately marked it as a victory. Then I remembered our very plain road record in years past. Then Matt Schaub was signed. Along came Nebraska grad Ahman Green. Now all of a sudden we've got the possibilities of a legitimate opponent in Houston. Fortunately, these two skill players are new to the team and won't be meshing well enough at this point. Key to the game: Unleashing the revamped defense
Chiefs 20 Texans 10
Week 2
@Chicago Bears: Two away games to start off the season is not an ideal situation, especially when one of those teams is the reigning NFC champs. There are, however, a couple of optimistic points about this game. It's being played in September so we won't be hit with that brutal Chicago weather. Also, Super Bowl losers curse, anyone? Looking at the last several Super Bowl losers, their next seasons have been horrendous. Unfortunately, Chicago's defense is good (and young) enough that they probably won't succumb to aforementioned curse.
Chiefs 13 Bears 20
Week 3
Minnesota Vikings: This crowd will be jacked up. Home opener. Tarvaris Jackson is running the offense for Minnesota. Who? Exactly. Jackson went 0-2 down the stretch last year. The Chiefs D should be able to harass this former 2nd round pick. We should be getting ready for 8 in the box most of the game against Adrian Petersen and Chester Taylor. This is probably the game I'm most sure about.
Chiefs 24 Vikings 7
Week 4
@ SD Chargers: Everyone knows about the Chargers. 14-2 last year. Most talented team in the league. I guess all we can hope for is a couple turnovers from Philip Rivers to set our offense up with good field position because we most likely won't be moving the chains too often against this D. Not much else to say. We're going to lose this game. Accept it now.
Chiefs 13 Chargers 28
Week 5
Jacksonville Jaguars: A key conference game here. We got the best of them last year to help push us into the playoffs. We can certainly win this game, especially with the bit of turmoil they're having at QB. Leftwich and Garrard are both average QB's and we take advantage of both. Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor should cause a few problems for us. The Jags defense isn't as stacked as it has been in years past but they're still tough. Stroud and Henderson plug the middle up quite well and Rashean Mathis is a top 5 corner in the league. Still, at home, we should come away with this one.
Chiefs 24 Jaguars 13
Week 6
Cincinnati Bengals: Another potentially big conference game. Luckily it's at home. It's time for a little revenge after that Trent Green hit last year. The Bengals are tough to figure out. They have a top 3 receiver and top 3 quarterback running the show. Palmer and Ocho Cinco can and will torch us. Their defense is extremely suspect so we should be able to put some points on the board. Already smells like a shoot out, ah the Vermeil days...
Chiefs 31 Bengals 28
Week 7
@ Oakland Raiders: Since their Super Bowl season in 2002 this has been an automatic win. However, their defense is actually legit. It's good for us that JaMarcus Russell is still holding out hindering his development. As good as their defense is, this offense is just too inept to beat us. Our Raider domination continues..
Chiefs 20 Raiders 6
Week 8
Bye Week: Much better positioning this year (3rd week last year). Should help everyone get a breather to get ready for the 2nd half of the season.
Week 9
Green Bay Packers: Hmm. It's at home. This is certainly a should win game but there's something about the Packers with the possibility of this being Favre's last year. They rattled off several in a row last year to end 8-8 so there is definitely something there. But at home, Favre's just too inaccurate and will help us put some points on the board.
Chiefs 27 Packers 17
Week 10
Denver Broncos: This game could easily go either way. By this point in the season, Cutler should be on target getting some rhythm with Walker and Scheffler. This is a must win. We have to beat the Broncos at our place if we have a shot. For the first time in a few years the Broncos are starting the season with a running back that someone has actually heard of. Travis Henry is legit and should do well in Denver's zone blocking scheme. I certainly don't like the looks of this game. If things go as they should prior to this game, then I would confidently say that the winner of this game is going to the playoffs.
Chiefs 21 Broncos 20
Week 11
@ Indianapolis Colts: Super Bowl Champs. Peyton "forehead the size of a drive-in movie theater" Manning always has a field day against us. However, we should be able to run against them extremely well. I still have no idea how they pulled it all together in the playoffs last year and shut down our ground attack. Honestly, does anyone? It's like they didn't care all season then just turned it on ( I guess that's why they're the champs). If we have any shot at winning this game we have to slow it down as much as possible with LJ on offense and at least contain Peyton to 10-12 play drives and not our usual 4 passes and a touch.
Chiefs 14 Colts 27
Week 12
Oakland Raiders: They don't stand a chance against us at home. Still one of, if not the biggest game of the year. Hopefully we'll have it all together at this point and just torch them.
Chiefs 31 Raiders 13
Week 13
SD Chargers: We barely escaped last year after a sick first half. The only way we're winning this game is by creating turnovers. We can't stop their offense consistently like their defense can against us. Let's hope all the coaching changes have an effect on this team and we're not their 13th straight victory.
Chiefs 17 Chargers 21
Week 14
@ Denver: I hate having these two HUGE division games back to back. Don't see us winning this game either. Mile High has always given us fits and should continue to do so. Dre Bly and Champ Bailey are the best tandem in recent memory. We need LJ to step it up in this game because I imagine our deep field threat will be non existent by this point.
Chiefs 13 Broncos 20
Week 15
Tennessee Titans: Should be a victory. The Madden Curse should have taken it's toll on VY by now and he'll be on the sidelines. He lost his top 3 weapons last year. He's good, but this is the NFL and he should not beat us all by himself. Our last home game of the season while we're still in the hunt will pump this crowd up. Everything that's gone on with Pacman this season should hurt them.
Chiefs 27 Titans 17
Week 16
@ Detroit Lions: A should win. Calvin Johnson looked pretty damn good in Thursday's game. Historically, rookie WR's haven't been too productive but CJ looks like the real deal. He's tall (6'5") and strong (240 lbs) and has awesome hands. Remember Kitna threw for over 4,000 yards last season and still has Roy Williams and Mike Furrey. This has the potential to be an explosive offense. However, they lost one of the few good pieces of their defense in Dre Bly so we should be able to attack on the offensive side of the ball. If we can contain their trio of wide-outs we should win this game. But the Chiefs have a history of getting our hopes up this late in the season.
Chiefs 31 Lions 27
Week 17
@ NY Jets: "Mangenius" had this team rolling last year and should continue that success this year. They added a legit RB in Thomas Jones so they won't be in the running back by committee anymore. Their defense is solid, anchored by Vilma. Honestly, I think this game will be a Sunday night flex game because both of us should be vying for the playoffs at this point. This is a toss-up
Chiefs 14 Jets 17
There we have it. A very, very optimistic view at a 10-6 playoff team. Let me hear some comments/concerns about my view of this year's Chiefs team.
P.S. Once we make the playoffs we will then run the table and win the Super Bowl. FYI

Buying tickets for AZ
I think we just won't know much until the season starts.
I am thinking a road trip to Chicago but don't know yet. And I think we are going to kick the Bears ass & it won't even be close.
Cheers!

I'm afraid that's to optimistic
Here's a short analysis of my thoughts:
Week 1: Matt Schaub + Andre Johnson = A couple big plays, add in Ahman Green, and #1 overall pick from last year, Mario Wililams, taking advantage of McIntosh's injury, equals a difficult game, Chiefs barely escape.
Week 4: Hopefully the loss of Schotennheimer, and their offensive and defensive coordinators has this team still struggling at the beginning of the season and the Chiefs surprise them, maybe led by the duo of LJ and Priest Holmes, making his triumphant return?
Week 6: Chiefs cannot win a shootout game against this team, and I don't think the Bengals defense as bad as advertised, look for them to win the turnover battle and the game.
Week 11: Call me unrealistic, but I think the Chiefs have a shot at beating the World Champs. Maybe it's because of the losses they suffered on defense during the offseason, and a couple injuries leave their defense very open, maybe our defense has Peyton's number this game, or maybe it's just our turn, but I'm gonna predict something happening and the Chiefs steal one from the Colts.
Week 16: While I have no doubt our offense will have no problem against the Lions defense, primetime points out the explosiveness of the offense with a couple stud WR's, a 4000+ yard passer, a decent back, and Mike Martz calling the plays...possible second coming of "The greatest show on turf"? I don't know if we can win any shoootouts, so our defense has to come up big.
Week 17: A close one, but I'll give the nod to Herm in his return to New York, having inside knowledge on his former players, and able to expose them for their weaknesses, barely though.
Final Record:10-6

I don't know how to add
Week 2: Bears 20-Chiefs 6
Week 3: Chiefs 17-Vikings 10
Week 4: Chiefs 24-Chargers 21
Week 5: Chiefs 16-Jaguars 14
Week 6: Bengals 31-Chiefs 17
Week 7: Chiefs 14-Raiders 9
Week 8:
Week 9: Chiefs 21-Packers 14
Week 10: Chiefs 17-Broncos 16 (Could go the other way)
Week 11: Chiefs 24-Colts 21
Week 12: Chiefs 28-Raiders 16
Week 13: Chargers 27-Chiefs 17
Week 14: Broncos 24-Chiefs 14
Week 15: Chiefs 13-Titans 10
Week 16: Lions 30-Chiefs 20
Week 17: Chiefs 21-Jets 10
Five definite losses, a couple slip ups, (just not sure where they're going to occur), and the Chiefs finish at 9-7, maybe get lucky and escape with a 10-6 record.

What really sucks
Week 6: The Bengals defense is that bad. I know preseason shouldn't mean anything but giving up 497 passing yards? Really?
