I haven't been watching much ESPN lately. Now, I'm not one of those bloggers that is railing against the WWL simply because they're the 800 pound gorilla in the room. This is just something I noticed over the last year or so. ESPN has a lot of crap on that I have never and probably never will care about watching. Poker, bowling and the ESPY's to name just a few. I have to confess I think I did watch the ESPY's when I was younger but hasn't YouTube pretty much obliterated that idea? Was I the only one who watched to see the really cool sports plays that I had never seen before?

My other reason for shying away from the sports giant is that I feel at my ripe old age of 24 that the network doesn't really offer me, an adult, much in the way of programming anymore. I could care less about the spelling bee, which appears to only be as successful to the degree to which its shoved in our faces. Going over the intricacies of who's more "now", Tiger Woods or Matt Leinart? And have the ESPN anchors taking it seriously? Please. I have enough trouble wrestling the remote away from my little brother (22) and his damn Real World crap. Don't even get me started on that show...

I remember when I was younger waking up on Monday mornings to the shouting of "PLAYS! OF! THE WEEK!" and knowing it was going to be a good day because of that. Now, I wake up, write what I can here, hustle off to work and back home to catch up on my sports info. I really lack the time nowadays to watch ESPN for four hours to get my daily sports fix. The Internet is always on and there are inevitably a million more opinions and bits of info out there than ESPN (or any television network) could ever hope to deliver.

Maybe I spend too much time on the Internet checking out sports blogs. I was reading an article in a magazine yesterday and when I reached the end of it, I instinctually looked for the comment section. Go figure...

I know what you mean Chris.
I'm the same way sometimes.  But ESPN always offers SportsCenter which is good for an hour a day.  Not to mention Sunday Night Baseball and MNF.  Once football season comes around, the amount of time I dedicate to the World Wide Leader increases greatly.  There are so many games in baseball and basketball season that it's hard to listen to analysis all the time (HEY! HEY! I'm Peter Gammons!  Listen to me!! Listen!  Is that you Stephen A. Smith!  You're important!).  But football season is different, there are only 16 games so you can get into each match-up each week pretty intensely.

I read sports blogs and different sites for my daily sports fix, but I would still miss SportsCenter if it were gone.

P.S. You're not just trying to take down 'The Man', are you Chris?

Never
ESPN gets millions upon millions of viewers. No sports blog can even come close to that.

We're two different mediums doing two different things. I don't see us in direct competition. Question: Do you like MNF because its on ESPN or because its football on a Monday?

by Chris Thorman on Jul 6, 2007 8:22 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Because its football
on a Monday.  I liked it when it was on ABC as well.  I don't necessarily like or dislike ESPN, they're just the only televised media outlet with all sports all the time (minus World Series of Poker Marathons).

True
There is something be said for that. I just think that the Internet can rival ESPN for sports info and entertainment any day.

i used to watch sportscenter
ALL MORNING saturday mornings. id watch the same show more than once for sure, sometimes even 3 or 4 times.

now? well, now there are only a couple of things i will watch on ESPN and enjoy. PTI, a great show especially when tony and mike are there. around the horn sometimes, mostly to make fun of mariotti/paige (when he was on). any live game (except baseball. i love baseball but the only games they ever have on involve either the yankees, mets or red sox it seems and it gets incredibly redundant after awhile) especially college basketball, that is one thing they do well show a huge amount of college bball games. i -might- watch parts of sportscenter but now am a bigger fan of FSN's "The Final Score", it is only 30 minutes and you just get the highlights, none of the fluff ESPN throws in there.

wow, that was been way too long. oh well.

I'm a PTI fan
I do remember spending my summer mornings when I was little watching Sportscenter as many times in a row as I could stand it.

the chiefettes
screw the chiefs. i hope they go 0-16 this year and every year thereafter. like the royal-pain-in-the-asses, any chiefs loss is a good loss. when are they going to leave town? not soon enough, i suspect.

The Chiefs
are one of the things that keep KC on the map.  Anything that gets 80,000+ people out to a stadium on Sundays to pump money back into the city is a good thing.  But that's a good reason why to keep them, not just incoherent babble, so you don't care, right?

the pink and yellow chiefettes
yeah, the chiefettes against the colts last year will have people talking for years about that inept performance by our bunch of high school football wannabees masquerading as a pro team.  for the most part, it's the same 80,000 white trash idiots, probably including you, primetime, that go to arrowhead...not 80,000 new ones every game. it's been proven more than once, that the chiefs are NOT an economic engine...just look at all the nifty development around the cesspool that is the sports complex. and to think the taxpayers of jackson county were stupid enough to vote to spend $575 million in support of those two losers. shameful. not caring is an understatement.

You keep saying "our"...
like you are a Chiefs fan.  It's great that you have an opinion, but let's make some sense next time.  By the way I go to alot of games at the HEAD and 1. I'm not white trash.  2. I don't see many white trash when I'm there.  3. Why does it matter if it is the same 80,000 fans every time you idiot, they are still spending the same money.  I hate fairweather fans like you gee that don't support the teams when it's bad, but as soon as either one has a bit of success you will be the first one to cheer them on.  I HATE PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!

So the Colts have 60,000 different fans
at every game?  They are called season ticket holders you dumbshit.

chiefettes and infants like stevedebergHOF
i LOVE thin-skinned, rabbit-eared blockheads like you, stevie. you are so much fun and such an easy target. you ARE white trash if you attend chiefettes games, stevieboy. insecure wannabees like you who follow sports teams are such empty-life ciphers it's almost a shame to give them room on the planet. funny you've chosen one of the most pathetic of quarterbacks to post under. you, and your other nascar-level seat mates (they invented nascar for idiots like you who don't "get" wrestling) probably sit in the third deck (you can't afford to sit in level one with the joco white trash) and think it's oh-so manly to yell obscenities at the players, drink beer to excess, offend everyone around you, then exercise your rights by pissing in the sink in the little boys room. all while wearing your chiefettes logoed merchandise marking you a "true" fan. i am not a "fairweather fan." i HATE the chiefettes with a passion that is immeasurable. they are pretenders to the game and an embarrassment to the nfl, kansas city, and pro sports in general. much like you are an embarrassment to the human race, stevieweevie. it gives me great pleasure to have aroused your ire little raytown man, because maybe you will wake up and realize what an immature, empty-headed, moronic piece of mullet-wearing, trailer trash (single or double wide, stevie?) dog shit you are. you and the same 80,000 other self-absorbed "fans" who squander their money and their time every sunday trying to achieve meaning for their stupid lives through sports. i'm rooting for an 0-16 season, complete humiliation of the chiefettes in every game, and the eventual leaving town of that gang of pop warner little league losers. then we can talk about the pain-in-the-ass royals. but i digress, stevieboy...isn't it time for you to go to work and flip some burgers? you do have a job, don't you? "hey, stevie, i'll take fries with that...supersize me!" there's no day care for you on sunday is there? GO CHIEFETTES!! WE WANT 0-16! Hahahahaha!!!!

hey chris
can we block this guy?

he is basically insulting all of us who have ever gone to a game before and is obviously not here to provide any, you know, insightful analysis.

by rockchalk on Jul 8, 2007 12:17 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

thin skin, too, shesaid?
oh, my. isn't it too bad when someone takes issue with your moronic lifestyle thatswhatshesaid. the first sign of opposition and you fold like a house of cards..or like the chiefettes, for that matter. going to a chiefettes game is an insult to one's intelligence, however, as demonstrated by your insipid post, you have no intelligence to insult. based on that, i suggest you renew your season tickets...maybe you can sit next to stevieboy and go piss in the men's room sink together. will you hold hands?

by gee willikers on Jul 8, 2007 12:34 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

actually
i live in southern california. south orange county, to be specific. therefore, i cant go to chiefs games and talk to anyone about the chiefs.

so can you please stop. what do you get out of just insulting everyone anyways?

by rockchalk on Jul 8, 2007 12:53 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

stay there shesaid
who gives a shit where you live, but since you dont live here then stay out of this blog. cheer for your team in LA...oh wait, you don't have a team in LA! find a blog in the land of fruits and nuts and have your gay way there, twerpboy. so do us all a favor and sit down and STF up!

by gee willikers on Jul 8, 2007 1:52 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

no thats my point
i grew up in kc, i am a diehard chiefs fan. i cant talk to anyone out here bout the chiefs, there arent too many. so i come here, because i actually care about the chiefs, apparently you dont. why do you care if i come to this blog, you dont even like the chiefs and call them (so creatively i might add) the chiefettes? who is your team, i bet no matter who it is your fans arent as loyal as the chiefs' fans are...
