Joe Delaney: 1958 -1983

Joe Delaney was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 1981 draft. In his first season with the Chiefs, he rushed for 1121 yards and was voted to the Pro Bowl. It would be the only full season he would ever play in.
24 years ago today, Joe was in Monroe, LA, when he heard the cries of three boys drowning in a pond. Without knowing how to swim, Delaney jumped in the water to rescue them. Only one of the boys ended up surviving. Joe Delaney drowned with the other two.
Today, his retired #37 appears in Arrowhead Stadium's Ring of Honor.
Take a moment today to remember that there really are heros out there, even in the NFL. To this day, the story of Joe Delaney continues to inspire people around the world and remind them of the common bond that connects all human beings. And that his perhaps his greatest legacy.
