Right off the bat, I look at this list and name Jared Allen and Tamba Hali our no. 1 and no. 2 defensive ends. Keep in mind that Jared Allen (Can somebody please come up with a good nickname for him?) will miss the first four games of the season because he's a freaking moron. The remaining five defensive ends on the team have a total of six years experience so we're more than likely going to see a fresh face in there for the first four games. Jimmy Wilkerson has played in fifty six games for the Chiefs at defensive end but has done it in an unimpressive way. I get the feeling like Turk McBride could step in right away and play comparably to Wilkerson. Might as well play the kid for four games. He may even get a confidence boosting sack against the perennially horrible Houston Texan offensive line.

Our interior defensive line is average at best. Alfonso Boone came over here from Chicago with little to no fanfare. The guys over at WCG described him as replaceable. With the exception of Tank Tyler and the other rookies, I would say that every other defensive lineman on our team is replaceable as well. None of these guys are stars. They just happen to be not horrible enough to warrant being cut. At the very least though, they know when to put down the fork.

I haven't heard a peep about Kiki Gonzalez or Matt McGlothlin. Scout describes Gonzalez as "more of a straight line run stuffer" which doesn't really mean much to me. You may remember McGlothlin as the guy who threw defensive line coach Tim Krumrie onto the ground during his Pro Day, which is anecdotally impressive. I imagine that Tank Tyler gets a decent amount of playing time this year. The guy was billed as first round talent but his draft stock slipped when he was arrested for assaulting a police officer. This guy isn't the next Pacman Jones so I'm not worried about his off the field stuff. In fact, I think we got a great deal on him in the third round because of the emphasis on character this year in the NFL.

The Chiefs could probably play any combination of our defensive tackles and the results wouldn't change much. Like the backup running back role, I expect that the defensive tackle position will be decided in training camp.

Get another Tank
Sure it would have to wait till at least week 9, but the interior combo of Tank Tyler and Tank Johnson sounds like the best DT combo since the Tecmo years.
I'll take Tank Johnson and his guns any day.

I was waiting
for the Tank Johnson talk to start.

The guy just seems like a repeat offender who will inevitably screw up really big.

i dont want tank johnson anywhere near kansas city
while tank tyler just had the one offense, tank johnson has some pac-manesque qualities in the fact that he cant seem to stay out of trouble.

i think turk will impress from day one and make our defensive end rotation one of the better in the afc and while our tackles are going to be weak, it will be much better than last year with tank and alfonso added to the mix.

Boone
seems to me to be about the equivalent of Ron Edwards.

pick up johnson for vet minimum
and give him an insentive laden contract. If he screws up cut him, but, if he works out that is a heak of a signing. Just because lovie couldn't keep him on a leash doesn't mean the rev. herm edwards can't.
