Another Premature Look at the Chiefs 2007 Schedule

I did this back in mid-April and predicted a 10-6 2007 season for the Chiefs. After the draft, a couple of signings, I think we're in a similar spot.

  • @ Houston - W
  • @ Chicago - L
  • Minnesota - W
  • @ San Diego - L
  • Jacksonville - W
  • Cincy - L
  • @ Oakland - W
  • Green Bay - W
  • Denver - W
  • @ Indy - L
  • Oakland - W
  • San Diego - L
  • @ Denver - L
  • Tennessee - W
  • @ Detroit - W
  • @ New York Jets - W
Okay so I didn't actually change anything from last time. We're up against more than a few teams that you could really pick either way. The Jets, Lions and Jacksonville especially are teams that are probably similar in overall skill level to the Chiefs. I gave us the win over Jacksonville because of the home field but like I said last time, the Chiefs could be sitting at 10-6 or 8-8 pretty easily. I really don't like finishing three out of the last four on the road, especially ending the season against Herm's old team. A lot of Jets fans still think Herm is an idiot which hopefully won't translate into a very hostile crowd. The only "sure" losses I'm willing to accept this year are Indy, San Diego both times and Denver at Invesco Field. Other than that, I think we have a decent chance of winning every other game. Now, we won't actually win every other game but at least we will contend. The 2006 and 2005 schedules especially were much tougher and had much bigger whales on them. Expect a rollercoaster this year.

Agreed Chris
Denver fell apart at the end of the season there so hopefully that trend will continue.  Who knows about Cincy.  Jacksonville has a great defense but big QB questions so that could work to our advantage.  At least those games are at home.

What are everyone's thoughts on the Chargers?  They're too damn good to miss the playoffs, but will all these coaching changes affect them?

I think its possible
we win one against the Chargers but I can't go ahead and predict one of those and count it towards our win total.

They're just too good right now, despite the coaching changes. You know LT and Rivers are going to be very productive.

No Marty, no Donnie?

No defense.  By that point in the season I suspect either San Diego or our offense should have spun into nose dive.  Hopefully, it's San Diego.

Offensive stars grab headlines but with Marty gone and their top defensive veteran in KC, I don't see San Diego repeating last year.

Jacksonville always gives me a bad feeling, even at Arrowhead.  Tennessee makes me nervous too.

Generally, I think it depends on how our not so much there O-line holds up in Herm's "let's minimize the role of the quarterback because he's young and we don't want to put all the pressure on him" offense.  If Brodie exceeds the huge expectations, we could be great, but I suspect he's going to get hit a lot this season.

Remember Aaron Brooks last year?
The guy just casually ran way from every Chiefs defender. If we couldn't stop Aaron Brooks, I don't even want to think of Vince Young. Thank goodness for fast linebackers.

The game I'm most looking forward to is at Chicago
Since its early in the season I bet it will be an awesome defensive game.  Final score KC 13 CHI 9  We will beat the Chargers and Cincy at home, but I see us losing to Oakland on the road. 11-5 will be our record when its all said and done.  This is based on our Defense be very good, and Brodie holding his own.

One loss to Oakland
is a possibility I didn't want to admit.

i break it down into 3 categoris
near-definite wins, near-definite losses and swing games. the swing games are what seperate the decent from the good, the good from the great, those who make the playoffs and those who dont. anyways, here is how i split the games up this season:

NEAR-CERTAIN WINS:
@ Houston - W
Minnesota - W
Green Bay - W
Oakland - W
@ Detroit - W

we could lose all of these games, espeically the two on the road, but i am very confident that we will win them. very.

NEAR-CERTAIN LOSSES:
@ Chicago - L
@ San Diego - L
@ Indy - L
@ Denver - L

i will never put a game at arrowhead here because we always have a chance to win games because of the home field advantage. sure, we could win a couple of these games but it isnt likely at all and if we were to win just one game we would be in great shape.

going into the swing games our record would be 5-4. to get to 10-6, my rough goal for this season and likely what is needed to make the playoffs, we would have to go 5-2 in swing games.

SWING GAMES:
Jacksonville - W
Cincy - L
@ Oakland - W
Denver - W
San Diego - W
Tennessee - W
@ New York Jets - L

i agree with chris, we will go 10-6. the only things i changed is that we will win against san diego at home but lose to the jets on the road in week 17. the jets are going to be very good next year and it will be tough to win on the road. the chargers, while the most talented team in the nfl, have one of the worst coaches and im not so sure they are a lock to win the afc west as everyone says they are. they should get into the playoffs on talent alone, but we can definately beat them at home as we beat a better chargers team last year at home with a better coach.

jim caple is an idiot
recently on espn.com jim caple made a list of 101 events a sports fan must see....and regrettably he chose the black hole in oakland, where a guy can be stabbed or jumped for no apparent reason by the bums and gangsters that populate oakland.  not mentioned on the list was our beloved arrowhead stadium, the ultimate nfl experience, the place that gives chills to opponents before the game with the smell of bbq and the home of the CHIEFS during the national anthem.  the place that during the game makes opponents want to cry due to the noise and voracity of taunting near the sidelines.  the place that is so red that you just can't see color distinctions when you leave the stadium.  and the place where the chiefs are the best team in football.  so screw jim caple for including, among other things, the McAfee Coliseum(corporate name, bad environment), the wife-carrying competition, the dog show in nyc, the hot dog eating competition in coney island, rugby in new zealand, cricket between india/pakistan.  a real sports fan appreciates arrowhead everytime he arrives and knows it is a spectacle.  even the denver and oakland fans that show up understand this when we don't try to beat them up or murder them(a la oakland): arrowhead is the best.

I want to say I saw an FHM
article a few years ago that said Arrowhead Stadium was the toughest place to play in ALL of sports. I think the Swamp was no. 2.

I read that too
I hate ESPN.
