Chiefs Have Two Players in the Top 50

Pete Prisco of CBS Sportsline put out his top 50 players in the NFL. The Chiefs' Larry Johnson and Tony G are the only two KC guys on the list.

20. Larry Johnson, RB, Kansas City: For the second consecutive year, he put up huge numbers. He's a big-play threat every time he touches it.

The only other running back before LJ is LaDainian Tomlinson, which I'm just fine with. One issue I have is putting Texan's WR Andre Johnson at no. 14. While he did having 103 receptions last year now that I've actually checked him out, I think most fans would not choose a one year wonder (so far) receiver over a powerhouse running back.

TG barely squeaks in.

46. Tony Gonzalez, TE, Kansas City Chiefs: Even though he's getting up in the years he is still a force in the middle of the field. He's happy now, too, since he received a new contract from the team.
Antonio Gates is the only other TE above Tony G and Gates is at an appropriate no. 23. Now that I think about it, our intra-divisional foes really have us beat in the skill positions.

Unfortunately...
the West is looking good for the future (minus the raiders of course).  Cutler and Rivers both look to be the real deal.  LT, Gates and that SD defense is sick.  Merriman will be tormenting us for years unfortunately.  Cutler started to show a lot of upside and should develop making a good connection with Tony Scheffler (TE) and Javon Walker doesn't hurt.  And as always, the Denver running game and defense always reloads and they'll always have a good record at Mile High (whoops sorry....Invesco Field...cool).  The Chiefs can't get too far behind in the race to get young.

And actually....
the Oakland defense is good.  Assuming Al Davis continues to let all hell break loose there they shouldn't be doing much.  Raider fans are terrible and are probably hoping JaMarcus turns into the next Jeff Hostetler.

San Diego
has players that are not only great but young too. The AFC west will be a bloodbath over the next 5 years.

Luckily...
playing at home is a huge advantage for us.  A sub par Chiefs team can certainly beat more talented (i.e. SD and Denver last year) teams.  With our home-field advantage, we can get 5-6 good wins at home each year, and add in another couple cupcake road games against weak NFC teams and we'll have playoff hopes every year.
