Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

What are Your Top 10 Sports Movies?

Inspired by The Big Lead, I decided to come up with my Top 10 Sports Movies of All Time. I'm doing this fairly quickly so forgive me if I leave out an obvious one.

1. Kingpin ("Oh, that's cool. I mean, what's the worst that can happen? [Roy agrees by gesturing with his hook and then looks at it awkwardly]")

2. Caddyshack (Probably about where you have it on your list too)

3. The Sandlot (Captures being a kid in the summer perfectly)

4. Major League (Taught me at a young age that Corbin Bernsen was a pussy)

5. The Program (I know its a bad movie, okay?)

6. Rocky (Classic)

7. White Men Can't Jump ("I'll tell you what. Why don't we take all these bricks and build a shelter for the homeless, so maybe your mother will have a place to stay.")

8. Tin Cup (Won me over during freshman year when the school replayed this movie about a hundred times on the student channel)

9. The Bad News Bears (Saw this recently and it got funnier)

10. Necessary Roughness (Weren't we just talking about this movie?)

I know some of you are already saying, "But he left off that movie!" Thats where you come in. Give me your top 10 in the comment section.

So, I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
I haven't seen enough of the "classics" that always make these lists but here are my personal favorites of the ones I have seen, in some type of order, I guess.
  1. Hoosiers (perfected the sports movie formula)
  2. Caddyshack (perfected the sports comedy movie formula)
  3. Friday Night Lights (seems like I like this movie more than others but it reminded me of my own, much, much less glorious, high school football days)
  4. White Men Can't Jump
  5. Happy Gilmore
  6. Slapshot
  7. The Sandlot
  8. Rocky (I'll just sort of roll all of them into one so I don't have to try to pick a favorite)
  9. Major League
  10. Kingpin
Honorable mentions:
Documentaries:
Hoop Dreams, When We Were Kings

Really dumb movies I remember from childhood or high school and still sort of enjoy on some level: BASEketball, Teen Wolf

Animated:
Triplets of Belleville

Teen Wolf
was fantastic. So was Hoop Dreams.

BASEketball? Really??

Ummm
I should probably take that back since I don't think I've ever seen it sober...

Fear Strikes Out
Bang the Drum Slowly

Raging Bull...
Raging Bull and Hoop Dreams would probably be the top two on my list along with Rocky. And Kingpin would be on my list. I just can't believe nobody has mentioned Raging Bull. Should have won Best Picture.
