Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

Open Gameday Thread - Kansas City Chiefs (4-11) v. New York Jets (3-12)

 VS.

When: 3:15, Central time

Where: Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey

The Jets on SB Nation: New York Landing Strip

Weather: Currently 37 degrees, high of 41 degrees.

Another game, another season. New York welcomes back its prodigal son Herm Edwards. Boos or cheers? I'm guessing boos.

I'm predicting a 16 to 9 Chiefs win. Six field goals? You betcha. Leave your prediction in the comment section.

Let's get this started.

GO CHIEFS!!!

One of these two teams has to win
High scoring, maybe 35-28, unlikely to be a Chiefs win.

Hmm, when was the last tie game?

Blame my wife!

Without looking it up
Pittsburgh against somebody in 2001? I think the game ended with Plaxico Burress catching a fifty yard pass at the one yard line. Burress had like 249 yards receiving that day.

Inactives
The Kansas City Chiefs have declared OT Adrian Jones, QB David Greene, RB Gilbert Harris, DL James Reed, DL Khreem Smith, TE Michael Allan, LB Mickey Pimentel, OL Travis Leffew inactive for Week 17.

The New York Jets have declared OG Adrien Clarke, CB Andre Dyson, WR Chris Davis, WR David Ball, OG Jacob Bender, P Jeremy Kapinos, QB Marques Tuiasosopo, TE Sean P. Ryan inactive for Week 17.

Interesting that James Reed is inactive. After playing most of the year, thats a clear sign that the Chiefs will put someone younger in one of the defensive tackle positions.

You're going to need it
I haven't been more apathetic towards a Chiefs game in a long, long time.

by Joel Thorman on Dec 30, 2007 2:57 PM CST up reply actions

Watch
the Chiefs and the other games with our draft position in mind.

by Chris Thorman on Dec 30, 2007 3:02 PM CST up reply actions

chiefs victory, unfortunately
As much as I would love a #4 draft pick, i think the chiefs are going to muster a good 20 points, and hold the jets to 20 as well.  This game ends in a tie.  Just kidding.  Sort of. I guess chiefs 23, jets 20.

I'm excited to see the young guys play, and excited for an even higher draft pick if we lose.  Go young guys, and go Chiefs!

by thehulk on Dec 30, 2007 3:05 PM CST reply actions

I will be blown away
if we score more than twenty points. We've only scored twenty or more points four times this season.

So sad.

by Chris Thorman on Dec 30, 2007 3:07 PM CST up reply actions

Neither Kearney or Williams got a sack
so if Allen gets 1.5 he should win the sack title...in only 14 games...that guy is a stud.

Yes!
Something to look forward to.

freakin losing record....
... Is costing me game coverage.

I live in Iowa- DesMoines to be exact.

I've been up since 3 am doing live tv for NBC (today show msnbc).

I knew I wouldnt be home to catch the game on my NFL Ticket, but I felt good knowing that I'd be able to tune into Mitch and the gang on local radio.

Much to my dismay when I tuned in the game at 3 what did I hear but an announcement that due to listener response the Chiefs game was being preempted in favor of womens basketball.

Could any of you loyal submitters jump in your car and zip up here to dsm and prevent me from jabbing my ears with an icepick???

Never mind.  I'll just keep updating the page.

I have some unexplainable dread
concerning drafting a LT in the first round, they get such huge contracts that if they bust, they hurt you for years.  I wouldn't mind taking Long, if we could keep him at RT where he belongs.  But I'd rather have Dorsey.

Bout the same as usual.  Some bad throws, a bunch of dropped balls.

He had guys in his face all day long.  Who knows what he could do with a decent line.

At least there were no interceptions today!

by DJ @ Arrowhead Pride on Dec 30, 2007 7:04 PM CST up reply actions

Has anybody heard this?
my friend said that he heard on 810 that Clark Hunt was making some big announcement after the game.

by PVChiefsfan on Dec 30, 2007 6:44 PM CST reply actions

Hunt
A few weeks ago some reporters asked Hunt what he thought of the season and he said he wouldn't comment on it until after the season.  From there I kept hearing people talking about how he was going to have a big press conference right after the game.  LOL

Don't know if this was just a matter of a comment being thrown way out of preportion or what.  I can't imagine he would do it right after the game.

by DJ @ Arrowhead Pride on Dec 30, 2007 7:06 PM CST up reply actions

we get the #3 pick now, right?
ill take that.

hopefully mcfadden drops to us, that would be awfully nice...

by rockchalk on Dec 30, 2007 7:12 PM CST reply actions

I think so
Depending on how the final strength of schedule works out.

by Chris Thorman on Dec 30, 2007 7:19 PM CST up reply actions

Choices
So assuming the players most likely to go in the Top 5 are:

Glen Dorsey DT
Darren McFadden RB
Jake Long OT
Matt Ryan QB
Chris Long DE

Who would you prefer to get?

by DJ @ Arrowhead Pride on Dec 30, 2007 7:34 PM CST up reply actions

Also
Also you have the Ohio St. Cornerback Malcolm Jenkins in there too.

by DJ @ Arrowhead Pride on Dec 30, 2007 7:35 PM CST up reply actions

i like jenkins
but he would be a pretty big reach in the top 10.

i hope mcfadden is available when our pick comes up, and we trade out of it to a team that needs him more. we should get tons of value, and hopefully only drop into the teens.

there, we should take someone like jenkins or a solid LT...

then we would have picked up a couple extra picks, because we have LOTS of holes to fill...

by rockchalk on Dec 30, 2007 11:59 PM CST up reply actions

no, not that bad
croyle threw roughly 36 times in the game, and he was hit at least half of those times he dropped back, hurried on a lot of the others.  in addition to that, tony gonzalez had 3 or 4 rare drops, in addition to the usual 3 or 4 drops by our wideouts.  it amounted to a statistically awful day for brodie croyle.  but here's how i see this: he did not make a major mistake, no interceptions.  instead, he checked down a bunch, giving himself roughly a 4.0 ypa, which is atrocious.  this is pure coaching.  someone is telling him not to try downfield for fear of the pick, or urging him to look immediately underneath.  i understand there's a fine line between developing a qb and babying him, but i think we're on teh negative side of that right now.  his stats were bad, his play was....what you'd expect from our offense.  hard to make judgments on it.  i'm interested to hear if clark hunt makes a 'major announcement.'

by kcisbetterthanstlateverything (65949) on Dec 30, 2007 7:34 PM CST reply actions

I have to agree
I don't know if its Solari, the Offensive Coordinator, or Dick Curl, the QB coach.  But one thing a young QB like Croyle needs is a coach that will guide him in the right direction without making him paranoid.

I don't know if they're telling him to check down too much, I mean he definately isn't afraid to throw into double or triple coverage.

I sincerely hope they ditch Solari (what does an offensive line coach know about developing a QB?) and get an experienced Offensive Coordinator who knows how to develop the QB.

by DJ @ Arrowhead Pride on Dec 30, 2007 7:38 PM CST up reply actions

Curl
