Are the Chiefs Interested in Grady Jackson?

**UPDATE TUESDAY PM** Big Cat Country reports that the Jags are close to signing Grady Jackson.

Are the Kansas City Chiefs interested in recently released Atlanta Falcon nose tackle Grady Jackson? Len Pasquarelli thinks so.

Look for nose tackle Grady Jackson, released by the Atlanta Falcons last week, to sign with a new team in the next few days. Jackson wants to go to a playoff-caliber team, and there are at least a few fringe playoff hopefuls, notably the Kansas City Chiefs, that have shown interest in signing the renowned run-stuffer.
Dave from the Falcoholic thinks Jackson is old and slow and I have to confess I don't know much about the ten-year veteran. I do know that his release from the Falcons came as a bit of shock to him and the rest of the team, as DeAngelo Hall made clear.

Frankly, I don't think the Chiefs should mess with the defensive chemistry right now and I can't say that I'm confident that Jackson would bring much to the table anyway.

Chemistry
Chemistry is an overrated concept in pro sports IMO. If you bring in a talented enough guy (I haven't seen enough of Jackson to know if he qualifies), things work out.  As long as he knows the scheme and does his job, any problems that might arise aren't due to "chemistry," they're due to misjudgments in a player's on-field ability to fit the needs of your team.

If Jackson is the real deal, having someone that could collapse the pocket/ stuff the run could take this D from the B/ B+ range to an A- or even an A.  I think we should get Jackson AND Hall- if we're gonna be a defensive team, let's be a SERIOUS defensive team.  Enough of frustrating opposing offenses- let's put some FEAR into them.

PS- This Radiers advertisement is killing me. Can't you do something about that, Chris?

If I could
get rid of every Raider ad, I would. But, alas, those ads are controlled by the powers that be of SB Nation. Still, those ads keep this place and every other site on SB Nation up and running.

Big Tubby
6'2", 350+ lbs. doesn't seem like a fit for the speed Edwards is going for.  I mean, Boone and Edwards are big guys but they aren't THAT big, they still have some quickness, especially Boone.  I agree on the serious defense thoughts...if we don't pick a first day corner next year I bet we look for some younger free agents (guys finishing their rookie contracts, though good ones are usually kept by the team that drafted the, or maybe 5-6 year veterans.  I don't think Herm will go much older than that).

Charley Casserly
... commented on the Grady Jackson release/DeAngelo Hall outburst on his segment during Sunday's pregame where he revealed that part of the reason for Jackson's release was that he often refused to run the play that was called- freelancing on his own.  Casserly further went on to describe him as someone who has struggled with his weight in the past, and as a poor practice player.

I'd be surprised if he's the type of player who would do well under Herm/Gunther.

Our D is good, but can't afford to give up big plays because of gaps created by someone "doing their own thing".

If the freelancing thing is true,
then no way do we pick up this guy.  Herm and Gunther are all about player's just doing THEIR job, not anybody else's and trusting their teammates.  You are completely right, if Fatty Jackson decides to change his assignment, more than likely, Derrick Johnson is going to run right into his fat ass and the running back will hit the open gap and be off to the races.  Now there are exceptions to the freelancing rule.  I am pretty sure that on the Raiders' 4th and inches play Boone just decided he was going to get in the backfield no matter what and slanted left...good thing it worked.

Know your role and do your job
To quote Herm and the gang...

After further research (reading your comments), Jackson would not fit in in Kansas City.

Freelancing
I wonder how much of that has to do with the losing culture in Atlanta this year. We've all seen what a difference getting W's can do for a player's attitude in witnessing the revival of Randy Moss' career in NE.  If playing on a team that has a shot at the playoffs wouldn't prevent Jackson from freelancing, then forget the bum. But if that would make a difference, maybe he's worth a shot.

The Chiefs are currently 17th against the run this season. If we're gonna be a defensive team, that number has to be better than mediocre. If Jackson can help, I say go for it!
