Open Gameday Thread - Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) v. Oakland Raiders (2-3)
VS.

When: 3:05 PM
Where: McAfee Coliseum, Oakland, CA
The Raiders on SB Nation: Silver and Black Pride
Weather: High of 74, Lots of sun
Before we get started, make sure you read the official Arrowhead Pride game preview. Also, there's lots of misc. Raider info in the post Scouting the Raiders.
This is it Chiefs fans. The away half of one of the best rivalries in football. The Chiefs will prevail today.
I'll be here during the game, as usual. Before then, I will be conducting my own version of the eventual Raider beat down with some pals in a pick up football game. Seriously, nobody can cover me.
I don't know about the weather where you are but Kansas City's weather this morning would be tough to beat anywhere in the world right now. 71 degrees and a strong breeze.
The Kansas City Chiefs will march into the black hole this afternoon and march out with a win. Larry will have his best game in terms of yards per carry and Tony Gonzalez will go over 100 yards receiving. Again. The Oakland offense will threaten at times but never find a rhythm. The Chiefs defense will sack Daunte Culpepper four times. The Chiefs win 27 to 17.
GO CHIEFS!!!

Perfect day.
Agreed on your prediction. Jared Allen can certainly do some damage to their O-line. Their O-line is getting better as a unit, but they're still not the Cowboys of the early 90s.

have you not seen their secondary play?
oaklands secondary is the strength of their entire team. it is an excellent unit, definitely one of the top 5 in the nfl, maybe even the best.
nmadi asoghuma (sp?) is one of the best cbs in the nfl, champ bailey is the best but he might be the second best.

law got burnt on the curry route
i hope he is ok, because our depth at corner sucks, but i also want to see if brackenridge can handle an outside corner job.
that is something else that would be nice to know before the draft, because law is already declining and surtain will in the next year or two.

webb needs to catch that ball...
great play by kris wilson to not allow the INT...
tremendous punt by colquitt, and a great play by rashad barksdale on the coverage too.

like they didnt see that one coming...
i would have used the screen as a fake, and thrown it downfield.

LJ still not looking like, well, LJ
2.25 ypc so far pretty much says it all.
Let's hope he picks up the pace in the 2nd half -- a lot.

STUFFED!!!
we need to drive down and score again, at least a FG, to make it more than a one possession game...
by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 4:10 PM CDT 0 recs
donnie almost picked that off.
as long as we come out and have a great second half...
by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 4:17 PM CDT 0 recs
that was the worst series in the history of ever..
then, we want to run the freakin football (WHAT?!?!?!?!?), then go no-huddle (WHAT?!?!?!?!!? x2)
then, to make it even better, we throw the ball over the middle for 2 yards (WHAT?!?!?!?!!? x3), which was probably damons fault.
seriously, damon, when there is 1 20 left and you are trying to drive the ball downfield, DONT throw the ball over the middle to LJ for 3 yards even if he catches it.
throw the ball (gasp!) downfield!!!
im really mad right now.
by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 4:23 PM CDT 0 recs
I never understand it
Of course as poorly as the offense is playing against a crappy defense maybe we should have been trying waste more time.

whew, we got really lucky there.
we NEED to score again, i hate winning by less than 7 points. better than losing or tied, of course, but if we can get a 2 possession lead we should be good to go the way this game is going...
by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 4:57 PM CDT 0 recs
that doesnt really bother me...
plus, we need to take MORE chances downfield, and it was one on one coverage on bowe.
it just doesnt always work out...

mike solari...honestly.
THAT!?!?!?!?!?
and rayner misses the FG...
thats what happens when you play for the FG, things happen.
its all on damon huard and mike solari, i dont even really blame rayner.
sure, it was an embarrassing miss, but if solari and huard actually want to win this game, we go for the TD right there.
and lookee there, momentum changes and they go downfield. and connect.
i give up.
we cant win with stupid play calls and/or decions by the combination of mike solari and damon huard.
by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 5:12 PM CDT 0 recs
you wanna know how to lose football games?
whatever herm tries and tell you in press conferences, we are definitely NOT playing to win this game.
we were playing for a 9 point lead, a more than one possession lead, and hoping that our defense can keep on stopping them.
mike solari and/or damon huard (whether it was a playcall to LJ or if it was just damons decision; my money is on the former) is 100% to blame for the game being 7-6.
not dave rayner.
not the defense.
by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 5:15 PM CDT 0 recs
no excuses for dave rayner
no if's, and's or but's. i don't care how close they come -- close is 0 points.
and this anemic offense needs every dang point it can get.

THROW THE BALL DOWN-FREAKIN'-FIELD!!!!!!!
and i am blaming damon huard more than solari.
sure, solari definitely isnt helping, but damon is scared to get hit, plain and simple, and gets rid of it way too early.
can we have croyle now, PLEASE!?!?!?
by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 5:20 PM CDT 0 recs
I honestly
by Ben S on Oct 21, 2007 5:21 PM CDT 0 recs
exactly.
croyle would at least make plays downfield, huard cant make plays.
huard just facilitates plays.

fire solari. bench huard.
ever.
sure, they will win some games, but that will be mostly because of our amazingness defense (minus those two plays right there) and TG and bowe making tremendous catches.
fire solari. bench huard.

if he does that more often, i might actually support him.

Shouldn't Huard be comfortable in this offense by now?

ok, damon is really annoying...
i mean, LJs was better!
i liked the first down call, see if it would work, but if not OK.
on second down, damon needs to be able to realize that tony g is double covered and decide to throw the ball somewhere else.
right?
or does he only like to throw the ball to tony g if the play calls to throw to tony g...
you can throw to a secondary target, i promise damon.
oh, and we have wasted 2 TO's while doing all of this "work".

by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 5:36 PM CDT 0 recs
TOUCHDOWN KANSAS CITY!!!!!
he gets dogged all the time, but he could have easily been stopped for a negative gain there, he single handedly got in that end zone on will alone.
i like going for 2 too, make it a 7 point game.
throw it to kris wilson after you use tony g to clear out that area.
by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 5:39 PM CDT 0 recs
Hey, LJ can get that 1 yard
by Ridiculous Matt on Oct 21, 2007 5:39 PM CDT 0 recs
i am usually very positive
but damon huard is sending me over the edge right now.
although that pass to dwayne bowe and LJ on the 3rd and 5 is making me feel better about him.
still, can we please have croyle in there now?
please?

kind of like michael scott
he says all these stupid things, insults everyone at some point or another, wastes countless hours, but nails presentations (and his boss) and so he keeps his job...
this is kind of what damon huard is like, although michael scott makes me laugh and damon huard makes me cry and scream.
but still...

we need to hold htem to a FG, if anything here, a TD would basically end the game IMO.

by Pauli on Oct 21, 2007 5:52 PM CDT 0 recs
again, this is a MUST stop right here
no way we score again, at least without a TO or another HUGE play.
if we hold them to a FG, though, we at the very least will make them travel the length of the field (again) and kick another FG to win.
and i am confident in our D...
by rockchalk on Oct 21, 2007 5:53 PM CDT 0 recs
YES!!!!!!!!!!
by Ben S on Oct 21, 2007 5:55 PM CDT 0 recs
