Boomer Grigsby Finally Ready to Play

Its been harped on here and other places that the Chiefs desperately need a true fullback to compliment Larry Johnson. Linebacker turned fullback Boomer Grigsby is finally ready to play.

Q: You said that you needed a hammer-head fullback. Is there a chance you could just throw Boomer [Grigsby] out there to see what he could do? To get experience wouldn’t he have to get it in a game? Wouldn’t you want to see it?

EDWARDS: "Sunday. Sunday. He’ll make a grand appearance. He’ll play. Exactly what you’re saying."

Who Dey Fans asked me if I could pick any player to fight a Bengals player in a cage match, who would I choose? In a submission match, I chose Tamba Hali because of his Ultimate Fighting training. To win by escaping the cage, I chose Boomer Grigsby. The guy is just nuts on the field and he has the high-energy attitude the Chiefs need on offense.

He isn't the answer to the running game's woes. But he's a start.

Oh thank you sweet, sweet Jesus

I have been waiting for Grigsby since the pre-season. I don't care if he misses a blocking assignment or two. I am so incredibly sick of the single-back runs where there's nowhere to go. If LJ can't get up a head of steam knowing Boomer is going in first to blow up whoever is fool enough to fill the gap (or at least where a gap is supposed to be, depending on the run blocking that play), then LJ can't get up a head of steam behind anyone. Man oh man....this is awesome.

Chris, this kind of update is exactly the reason I hit this site multiple times a day: you never know when some good news has been found and posted.

GO CHIEFS!!!

ps: yea, he's not going to solve all the running game's woes, but I for one believe strongly that there will be a noticeable improvement.

Improvement or not

It's a step in the right direction. We gotta try some different things. At least we can get Kris Wilson back to TE now, where he belongs.

Amen to that

I would imagine that Wilson, with his speed, would be a mismatch if covered by a LB (hell, he runs those crazy wheel routes and is 25 yards down-field with a safety coming over to bail out the LB) so maybe we'll see some two TE sets with both Wilson and Gonzalez running routes.

Not sold on Wilson/Solari

I've seen a few flashes from him... but only a few.

I keep wondering to myself- especially during the Jacksonville game and Houston game- what it is exactly that Herm/Solari sees in him. He's an athlete, but hasn't put anything on the field that seems apparent that he's an offensive weapon.

His stats from this year reflect it:

Perhaps this is less of a critique of Kris Wilson than it should be a critique of Mike Solari's ineptitude as an offensive coordinator.

Each time I'm watching the Chiefs struggle with the ball this year, I harken back to a postgame commentary that I read from Solari/Herm regarding a question of one of their more awful games (I believe it was Pittsburgh) and they had the audacity to actually say one of the reasons for the loss was that they truly believed that Dante Hall would be an "explosive offensive weapon" as a reciever and they game-planned the majority of the offensive set for the game around using him.

And when I heard it, I almost fell out of my chair.

I can't help wondering if the Kris Wilson experiment isn't another talent evaluation misjudgment by Mike Solari or Herm Edwards. I don't get to watch practice, but I've seen a whole lot of Chiefs football Pre- and in-season and I haven't seen anything which would indicate greatness.

Still frustrated with their offensive ineptitude,

P.S.- Anybody else wish Carl had pried open the wallet and kept Tony Richardson around??? Would we be having as much problem running the ball/protecting the QB??? Further, wouldn't it help to have his steadying influence around to help LJ??? Medlock aside, Carl's biggest personnel screwup this side of Kendrell Bell.

I agree

T-Rich made things run a bit smoother. And with the trouble we've been having running the ball, he could only be helping. What was the difference in price he got in MIN vs. what we wanted to pay him?

Anyway, I agree, he is the awesome.

don't remember exactly

but i think his salary was something like 2.5 mil a year when he left for minnesota. what really ticked me off was that the chiefs made it clear ahead of time (at least according to the star...there was no arrowhead pride back in the day) they weren't really interested in keeping him around, period. I think I remember him overtly saying he would love to stay in KC, but the front office didn't want to pay to keep him around.

Many a time have I wished he was still with the Chiefs. He was just awesome. Could run block. Could pass block a blitzing linebacker like an absolute beast. Could run the ball very well for a fullback. Could catch the ball out of the backfield. He would have been great the last couple years, except for the injury bug that's hit him since going to MN.

But hey, I'm still pumped for Boomer!

or is this Herm waiving the white flag. He said that a lot of young guys will get playing time. I have no problem with that as long as they remember that they are trying to win games.
