Chiefs have tons of cap room, will likely sign at least one RB. BenJarvus Green-Ellis logical fit. History with Pioli. Battle & Jones FAs.
Green-Ellis knows Daboll's system. One of NFL's top short-yardage/goal-line backs. Could be power complement to Jamaal Charles (ACL).
Fear not: Jim Bob Cooter is employed
The great Spencer Hall with a quick take on the Jim Bob Cooter hire.
So, Which One Of You Ordered KC Wolf For Valentine's Day?
The Chiefs website advertises a KC Wolf appearance for Valentine's Day and though I've never seen it go down I can only imagine seven foot KC Wolf walking into an office giving flowers and chocolates to some lucky lady/man/wolf. Perhaps he brings in the four-wheeler with flames shooting out of the back. Maybe he runs over a guy in the office dressed in Raiders colors. I don't know.
So we gotta know: Did anyone order KC Wolf to surprise your significant other this year? Have you ever ordered it?
If you did then, yeah, we're gonna need to see some pictures.
As for my Valentine's Day....Ms. Primetime received a box of chocolates this morning that had on it a picture of two dogs who looked just like our two dogs, Callie and Sheldon. Chocolates + puppies = success. Easy enough formula. She's also getting dinner cooked for her tonight. I'd be worried about her reading this and blowing the surprise if she, you know, actually read Arrowhead Pride.
Chiefs Announce Coaching Staff For 2012 Season
Romeo Crennel and the Kansas City Chiefs have announced their coaching staff for the 2012 season and included in it are five new coaches. A few of them we knew about, and a few others we didn't.
Previously reported: Brian Daboll is the new offensive coordinator from the Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs also previously announced the hire of Tom McMahon as special teams coach. They also confirmed a previous report that Jack Bicknell Jr. has been hired away from the New York Giants as offensive line coach.
The new guys: Jim Bob Cooter, who will be the offensive quality control coach. He's also up for the best name on the team. In fact, I think he wins that one in a landslide. He was previously with the Indianapolis Colts and played at the University of Tennessee (the alma mater of Mrs. Arrowhead Pride). Derius Swinton has been hired as the special teams quality control coach. He was previously with McMahon in St. Louis.
Other notables include Nick Sirianni staying on as the new receivers coach. Crennel previously indicated he had a "direction" he wanted to go with that. Also staying on board is Jim Zorn, the team's quarterbacks coach.
We will have a full break down coming of all the coaching moves this offseason -- the guys retained, the guys brought in, who the other candidates were, etc.
Former KC Chiefs Receiver Heads To The Arena League
Remember Verran Tucker? The undrafted receiver out of Cal?
The former Chief just signed with the Spokane Shock of the Arena League, which surprised me a little. I thought he had NFL-caliber talent in his short time with the Kansas City Chiefs.
He seemed to be one of the only deep threats for the Chiefs during the 2010 season and finished that season with six receptions for 114 yards for an average of nearly 20 yards per catch.
(Sign you follow your team too closely: Wondering about the loss of a guy that has six career catches and hasn't played in the NFL in a year and a half. What can I say? I get attached.)
While Tucker didn't make an NFL roster, he does enter the Spokane Shock with more NFL experience than anyone else in Shock franchise history. As Shock head coach Andy Olson said, he's proven himself in the "outdoor" game. "Obviously, he has proven himself in the outdoor game and I'm excited to teach him the Arena game," Olson said.
Between this and our Justin Medlock update last week, I think we have our former Chiefs update quota covered.
Oh, by the way, guess who's still playing in the Arena League? Yep, Bobby Sippio. (And former Chiefs LB Pierre Walters.)
Setting the Trenches: Offensive Line
From the FanPosts. Enjoyed this. -Joel
Many would agree that in order to succeed in the game of football, a team must dominate the line of scrimmage. Even though some say the league has evolved, this remains constant. It's essential to protect the QB and provide clean running lanes for your RB's.
Most would also agree that the biggest need for the Chiefs this offseason is on the offensive line. I firmly believe KC can set the trenches for years to come by making wise decisions with their first two draft choices in 2012.
Drafting the Beef
Scott Pioli has repeatedly indicated he wants to build this team through the draft. We haven't seen any blockbuster free agent deals in Pioli's time with the Chiefs, so a reasonable person would assume that will not change now.
The first draft pick for the Chiefs has got to be obvious. Maybe even the second. More info after the jump.

2012 Chiefs Cheerleaders Squad Ready For Valentine's Day Unveiling from The Mothership
Carr seems to be the easier one to replace. While losing him would be a hit to the Chiefs, they can find a Routt or another skilled cornerback. Finding a receiver who can give the Chiefs what Bowe has the past couple of years would nearly be impossible.

Third Shift Open Thread
We're off and running for the week and....I'm already tired. It's going to be an early night for me.
If you're still up, make this your open thread for the night. Use it to talk about whatever you'd like.
