Free Agent Stanford Routt Remains In KC Another Day
The curious case of Stanford Routt and the Kansas City Chiefs continues. Routt, who is now a free agent after being released by the Oakland Raiders, visited the Buffalo Bills on Monday and that was followed by a trip to KC on Tuesday.
And Routt remains in KC another day.
NFL Network's Jason La Canfora (via kcsno56) reports Routt is still in KC on Wednesday for a second day of meetings. I'm not sure if this is a new development or if the meeting was initially scheduled for two days. Routt is also scheduled to visit the Cincinnati Bengals later this week. (No word on the reported interest of about a half dozen other teams.)
Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Kyle McCarthy Signed
The Kansas City Chiefs and other teams around the league don't announce roster additions until the player has physically put pen-to-paper and signed his contract. That's why you see someone like Kyle McCarthy tweet last week that he's joining the Chiefs and the team doesn't make it official until Tuesday night.
The Chiefs confirmed that McCarthy, the former Denver Broncos safety, has signed with the team. He spent the last two seasons in Denver before the Broncos cut him the week of their Wild Card playoff game (which is a little cold-blooded, but not as bad as Tiquan Underwood getting released the night before the Super Bowl).
Per a league source, it's a one-year deal.
McCarthy has been a special teamer for most of his career so that's likely what he'll do in KC. Romeo Crennel hired two new special teams coaches this offseason so they'll get a look at McCarthy and others in offseason workouts.
McCarthy is a former Golden Domer, coming out of Notre Dame, where he saw action in 50 games. He entered the NFL undrafted.
Sounds Like Kelly Gregg Leaning Toward Retirement
As noted in Arrowheadlines, it would appear Kelly Gregg is likely to retire.
The Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman had his high school jersey retired at a Tuesday night high school basketball game in Oklahoma and the local newspaper wrote after the event: "Gregg hasn't announced it yet, but he plans to retire after a long NFL career."
The sub-headline of the story says Gregg is "considering retirement" so we'll see. Gregg doesn't seem like the type to have a big to-do about his retirement so I wonder if, when and how he'll make it official.
If this is it for Gregg, it caps an impressive career. He spent 11 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, including a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Ravens practice squad in 2000, before landing in KC.
Arrowheadlines: Chiefs News 2/15
Good morning! Today's Kansas City Chiefs news contains information on the new coaching staff, confirmation of a previously reported signing, and an (unofficial?) report of a player's intent to retire. Enjoy.
More than a month after being hired as the Chiefs' head coach, Romeo Crennel now has a full staff of assistants.
Crennel filled in the remaining blanks on his first organizational chart in Kansas City by promoting Nick Sirianni to wide-receivers coach and hiring Jack Bicknell Jr. as the offensive-line coach.
Sirianni was an offensive assistant for the Chiefs the last three seasons. Before joining the Chiefs, he was receivers coach for three seasons at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

"We were able to add a handful of strong additions to an already talented group of coaches, and I am excited to get started," said Crennel. "I am looking forward to sitting down as a staff, evaluating what we have, what we need, and moving forward towards the 2012 season."

Third Shift Open Thread
It's Valentine's Day. You either did good or you screwed up. Let us know in the comments.
This is your open thread for the evening. Use it to talk about whatever you'd like.
Ramblings of an Idiot: Valentine's Truths
First and foremost, there will be less discussion of football in this article than you'd likely find on the walls of your average Wal-Mart handicapped toilet men's room stall. I just wanted to put that out there right away in case you're too busy to read anything that isn't football related. This is a rant post, but one with a very specific set of rants that all relate to Valentine's Day. I'll also try to pass on a little bit of hard earned Valentine's wisdom that I have gathered throughout the years. Ladies of Arrowheadpride, I need to apologize in advance to you specifically. You see, I'm a guy. That means most of my Valentine's experiences are viewed from a guys perspective, and thus you may confuse them with sexism if you aren't reading carefully. I don't mean to insult you. Mostly, I just hate Valentine's day.
Before I get a full head of steam going that prevents me from interjecting a little composure into my attitude let me be very clear. Like every man in every relationship with a woman, I'm whipped. If you are, or know a man in a relationship that says he isn't whipped.... he's talking to his buddies, and his better half is out of earshot. Every last one of us just wants to get through the day without being subjected to a disappointed, whining, angry, ticked-off, screaming, or silent treatment giving wife/girlfriend. (correction: some of us actually prefer the "silent treatment", but only if we can still have sex too). Collectively, as men, we'll put up with just about anything this unjust world throws at us to make her happy today. However, that doesn't mean we're going to suffer in silence. Bitching about all the bull-poop we have to go through today to make her happy is to be expected. Silence, my dear girlfriend/wife, costs extra.

We're less than a month out from free agency, which starts on March 13. Dwayne Bowe, pictured above, is scheduled to be a free agent.
What's Romeo Crennel saying to Bowe in the picture above?
