A Couple of Roster Moves

Just a couple notes for you on this snowy evening in Kansas City.

LB Mickey Pimental, who was signed to the practice squad two weeks ago, has been promoted to the active roster. The Chiefs also signed tackle Travis Leffew, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.

The Chiefs placed Tyron Brackenridge and Larry Johnson on injured reserve, which freed up the necessary two spots.

One final push on Sunday. The young guys better make the most of it.

Update Weds. PM: The Chiefs also added QB Jeff Otis to the practice squad. For you local readers, Otis went to Christian Brothers high school in St. Louis, MO, and played college football at Columbia in New York. Like I've said before, the practice squads spots more than often go to local guys who can afford to stay close to the practice facility. Former practice squad wide receiver Brent Little of Poplar Bluff, MO, is another example.

You Will Be Able to Watch the Patriots Play the Giants On Saturday

Instead of just on the NFL Network.

In an unprecedented television touchdown, the NFL announced today that Saturday night’s Patriots [team stats]-Giants game will be telecast on three networks clearing the airwaves for a coast-to-coast opportunity for fans to see if history can be made.

The NFL Network will beam the game at the Meadowlands simultaneously to CBS and NBC beginning at 8 p.m.

Prior to that decision, the game was only going to be available on the NFL channel and Channel 5 locally.

Now that the Chiefs game has been flexed out of the Sunday night game, I'll still have a night game to watch with the Patriots more than likely completing the first undefeated 16-game regular season on Saturday night. Yes, I am excited for them. No, I will not be actively rooting for them. But I do hate those '72 Dolphins. Any time cocky, loudmouth jocks get their due, I'm all for it.

Know Thy Enemy: Detroit Lions

At least the Lions feel our pain. Big thanks to Sean from Pride of Detroit for taking the time to answer a few questions.

The Lions are on a six game losing streak. The Chiefs are on a seven game losing streak. What went wrong for the Lions after blowing out Denver in Week 9?

PD: The entire season started to unravel when the Lions headed to Arizona to play in what was being called by some a "trap game" the week after the Denver win. The game started off great for Detroit, but before you knew it, the Cardinals just started dominating the Lions. Arizona won pretty convincely, and although this game was a cause for concern at the time, many decided to brush it off, saying the Lions had their chance to prove they were for real against the Giants and Packers soon after. That was true - that Detroit could prove they were real - but yet again came up short in both games. As it turns out, they haven't won since the Denver game, meaning they failed every test that would have proved they were for real. In hindsight, this team was a fraud all along, and it unfortunately took a meltdown of epic proportions to show us that.

What up and coming Lions player should we keep an eye out for this weekend?

PD: I would have to say Calvin Johnson. This isn't necessarily an obvious choice, but it probably will seem like that since he was the #2 overall pick in this year's draft. Although he has struggled more than he has been great (back injury really slowed him down until just a few weeks ago), you can bet the Lions will be trying to get him the ball quite a bit since it's the Lions' final home game. This is the last chance to show the fans that this isn't just another wasted draft pick. Plus, with Roy Williams out for the year, C.J. should step in as the #1 WR.

What are your impressions of the Kansas City Chiefs this season?

PD: I haven't had a chance to watch the Chiefs at all this season, but I see them as being stuck in a rebuilding year. I think better things are in the future for KC once the QB situation gets ironed out and Larry Johnson gets healthy again, so 2008 should be much more fun for you guys. Just think about this: What you are going through this year with the losing streak and disappointing season is what Lions fans go through every year, so don't be down too much. After all, your team is just one year removed from the playoffs.

What Lions should have made the Pro Bowl, if any?

PD: None. No one on the Lions deserves to get a trip to Hawaii. If you would've asked me this question after they started 6-2, I obviously would feel different about this subject, but no one deserves to be recognized as one of the league's best when they are on a team that has been so bad in the most important time of the season.

In one word, describe the Lion's fanbase right now.

PD: Pissed. (Because Fire Matt Millen can't really be made into one word)

These Chips Are Making Me Thirsty!

Every Chiefs fan is feeling down now. The season has been a disaster and most have already mentally bypassed the final two games and are looking to next year (or 2009).

Fear not! I have created this thread to discuss your favorite potato chips, or any other game day snacks you enjoy.

The idea came to me as I thought...well, nevermind. You don't really care about that. Ladies and gentleman, I give to you the greatest snack chip known to mankind:

Jalapeno Krunchers. Thick. Crunchy. Perfect flavoring. Just enough heat to make you sweat but not enough to burn out your taste buds and miss all of the delicious jalapeño flavoring.

My college roommate and I actually tried to con Jay's Foods into sending us free bags of Jalapeno Krunchers. It didn't work. They saw right through our shady "school project" scam.

So AP readers, take your anti/pro Herm energy and put it into debating the greatest snack chips. Hopefully this brief respite from football will leave you feeling more energized while visiting the site, which is about to get a lot cooler. I just saw some previews of SBN 2.0 and my oh my is it going to be cool.

Larry Johnson May Have Reaggravated His Foot Injury

Who really knows how bad it is though.

Johnson received a heavier workload in practice Wednesday than he has since the injury in early November. Johnson shared the first-team snaps with Kolby Smith and appeared as if he was preparing to play Sunday against the Lions in Detroit.

But about halfway through practice, Johnson headed for the sideline and spoke with one of the trainers, careful the whole time not to put weight on the injured foot.

He then left the practice field and didn’t return.

That left his status muddled in all sorts of mixed signals.

I wasn't expecting Larry Johnson back and neither were most fans. With this recent "setback", whatever it is, he'll be even less likely to play. Again, why wasn't Larry Johnson put on injured reserve as soon as our playoff chances were nil?

Kyle Turley Put on Injured Reserve

You can probably call this a career:

The Kansas City Chiefs placed tackle Kyle Turley on injured reserve and claimed tackle Adrian Jones on waivers from the New York Jets on Wednesday.

Turley played in seven games, starting five at right tackle for the Chiefs in 2007. He joined the club as a free agent in 2006 and played in 14 games overall with Kansas City. A first-round pick of the Saints in 1998, Turley has played in 109 games with New Orleans, St. Louis and Kansas City.

Jones played in seven games for the Jets in 2007. He was a fourth-round selection of the club in 2004 and has suited up in 44 games during his NFL career.

Kyle Turley's career is almost certainly over. Never more than an occasionally useable offensive lineman, Kyle Turley's best years were past him when he came to the Chiefs in 2006. I wish Kyle Turley success in his latest endeavor involving retired players.

You can watch Turley talking about providing better benefits for retired NFL players here.

Adrian Jones was added to the active roster and will more than likely see playing time in the last two games.

Chiefs Promote TE Michael Allan to the Active Roster

The Chiefs also added tackle Joe Lobdell to the practice squad.

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a three-year contract with TE Michael Allan, adding him to the club’s 53-man roster from the practice squad. Per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available. In addition, Kansas City added T Joe Lobdell to the practice squad.

Allan (6-6, 254) originally joined the Chiefs as the club’s seventh-round pick (231st overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft. He was inactive for the club’s season opener at Houston (9/9) and joined the practice squad on September 12th. Allan saw action in 36 games (29 starts) at Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, catching 118 passes for 2,202 yards (18.7 avg.) with 29 TDs. He concluded his collegiate career as Whitworth’s record holder in career touchdown receptions (29) and yards per catch (18.7). He also set a single-season school record with 15 TD catches in 2005. Allan prepped at Interlake High School in Bellevue Washington.

Lobdell (6-5, 280) rejoins the Chiefs practice squad after spending three weeks on the club’s developmental squad earlier this season. He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent in 2007 with the Indianapolis Colts and spent the first week of the 2007 NFL season on that club’s practice squad. The Northern Iowa product saw action in 35 contests (24 starts) for the Panthers, logging 21 starts at offensive tackle and three at tight end. He was an honorable mention All-Gateway Conference selection as a junior after switching to the offensive side of the ball from defensive tackle. Lobdell prepped at Lena-Winslow High School in Lena, Illinois.

The last time we saw Michael Allan was in the preseason. Also, I believe that Allan takes the spot of recently released offensive lineman Chris Terry. Might as well play the young guy.

Did You Steal This Guy's Flag?

This older gentleman rants about Chiefs fans, the Dallas Texans and the "flag snatcher" he can't believe they let into Arrowhead Stadium. A little bit of NSFW language in there but nothing terrible.

Hopefully this odd video of a senile old man puts you in better spirits.
