Chiefs Vs. Jets: Kansas City Fails To Show Up Against New York
As can be expected, there are very few positive things to take out of the Kansas City Chiefs' 37-10 loss to the New York Jets today. It was a complete meltdown, failure, debacle, whatever you want to call it. The Chiefs got their butts whooped today.
The Chiefs had just over 200 yards of total offense. Tyler Palko threw one interception and generally played uninspired football.
The last few minutes were a perfect encapsulation of the Chiefs' effort today. In the red zone, Tyler Palko found a wide open Dwayne Bowe in the end zone but Bowe fell and dropped the ball. It was a sure seven points, irrelevant then but still, that disappeared.
Then, after getting the ball at their own 1-yard line, Kansas City ran Jackie Battle and he was promptly stuffed for a safety.
A dropped TD pass and a safety. If you missed this game, that about sums up the 27 point loss.
Joel has his post coming up soon. Quick reactions to this blowout?
Chiefs Vs. Steelers: Reliving Pittsburgh and Kansas City's 2009 Overtime Game
The last time the Kansas City Chiefs took the Pittsburgh Steelers was just over two years ago at Arrowhead Stadium. It was Todd Haley and Scott Pioli's first season at the helm of the franchise. Unfortunately, they entered the Steeler game that season not exactly in the position they imagined - 2-7 and at the bottom of the AFC West.
This game on November 22, 2009, was one of the few bright spots in a dismal 4-12 season for the Chiefs.
If you recall, Jamaal Charles gave the Chiefs initial hope against a typically tough Pittsburgh team with a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
I've added the post-game notes I wrote up two years after the jump. One of the things I really like doing is reading through old game threads. I rounded up the game threads from that game and posted them here:
- First open thread;
- Second open thread;
- Third open thread;
- Fourth open thread;
- OT thread; and,
- Post-game open thread.
Game notes are after the jump....
Matt Cassel Out For Season, According To Report
Per FOX Sports' Jay Glazer on TV a few minutes ago, injured Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel is out for the rest of the 2011 season. Cassel had surgery on a broken hand last week, which he sustained against the Denver Broncos in Week 10.
This is really no surprise. From the day Cassel was injured, there was speculation about the hand injury ending his season. In fact, there were reports that the rest of the Chiefs' roster was told earlier this week that Cassel was out for the season.
The Chiefs have not officially announced this and Matt Cassel has not been placed on injured reserve, yet.
The Tyler Palko era begins tomorrow night against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Football Week 8 Sleepers: Kansas City Chiefs Edition
Make sure you check out SB Nation's Fantasy Football hub for a much more comprehensive Week 8 fantasy football outlook.
Fantasy football sleepers picks are harder and harder to come by each week in the NFL. More players are figured out by fans as the weeks go by and many of the backup-to-starter picks have already been picked up.
When talking about which Kansas City Chiefs players could be sleeper picks this week, that's a tough question. I don't think you can put any Chiefs' player up there in the top five of sleeper picks this week. But if you have to have a KC player on your roster this week, more than likely rookie WR Jonathan Baldwin is available in your league.
I'm not predicting that Jonathan Baldwin will score 20+ fantasy points against the San Diego Chargers this week. But I do think Baldwin could sneak out of the slot for a couple of catches and potentially a short touchdown. Dwayne Bowe has owned the Chargers in recent years so expect Baldwin to get the least of the coverage from San Diego. Steve Breaston's recent upswing only helps Baldwin's sleeper case.
Anyone else on the Chiefs roster you see worth picking up this week? Too bad you can't sign CB Brandon Flowers to an offensive spot.
Friday Night Open Thread
We. Are. There. It's the weekend. Except for those you on the West Coast. You still have an hour or so.
Use this as your open thread for tonight. Make sure you give us your biggest victory of the week in the comments too. My victory of the week is not that exciting. We finally nailed down some big projects at work. That's about it.
What's your victory of the week?
Chiefs Crush Raiders 28-0 To Win Their Third Game In A Row
This was one of the most entertaining Kansas City Chiefs game in recent memory. What made it so memorable?
First, the Chiefs' secondary had six interceptions against the Raiders quarterbacks Kyle Boller and Carson Palmer. Six. Every starting defensive back got a pick. It was close to the franchise record of seven interceptions in one game. Did I mention that Brandon Flower and Kendrick Lewis both scored touchdowns on their picks?
Next, the Raiders team basically crumbled in the fourth quarter. The team had fourteen penalties in the game and a number of their personal foul penalties came in a frustrating fourth quarter for the Raiders. It was a bit sad actually seeing them break down.
In general, this game just had fun, exciting plays for the Chiefs. KC stopped the Raiders on four consecutive plays at the goal line in the first half. Dwayne Bowe was being Dwayne Bowe and making amazing catches. Steve Breaston played great as well, speeding past defenders throughout the entire game. Jonathan Baldwin made his first NFL catch today. By the way, Baldwin looks huge.
Finally, Raiders coach Hue Jackson gave Todd Haley the 'ole finger wag at the end of the game for presumably running up the score (which I didn't think the Chiefs did).
At the end of the day, this was just a fun game to watch for Chiefs fans.
Lots to talk about after this game so use this as your post-game thread. Joel will have more coming soon.
Chiefs Still Shutting Out Raiders Late In Third Quarter
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to punish the Oakland Raiders late in the third quater, still leading 21-0. KC is currently driving across midfield. Dwayne Bowe and Steve Breaston are receiving most of the attention on this drive and both are doing well.
Do you think the Chiefs keep the shutout going?
Kansas City Chiefs Hammering Oakland Raiders Early
Well this is an entertaining game. The Chiefs lead the Raiders 14-0 as the first quarter draws to a close. Kendrick Lewis has a pick six for seven points and Le'Ron McClain is getting credit for a short touchdown run but it looks like he actually fumbled it at the goal line. Jon Asamoah had the recovery.
The Chiefs are looking good early. How are you feeling?
