The Future Will Be Now... Eventually

Ha! You'll love this. WalterFootball.com has a three-round mock draft for 2008.

A bit presumptuous? Why, it's the very definition of presumptuous.

Walter & friends have determined that not only the Chiefs will have the 10th spot in the 2008 Draft, but they've determined what our first day picks will be, and oh yeah, go as far to suggest that 2007 "could be Jared Allen's last as a Chief," and therefore select a DE for us in the third.

And with the 10th pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, the Chiefs select:

10. Kansas City Chiefs: Sam Baker, OT, USC Will Kansas City finally come to its senses and realize it needs to draft some offensive linemen to replace the ones that retired? For the sake of Chiefs fans everywhere, I hope so.
42. Kansas City Chiefs: Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas Ty Law and Patrick Surtain aren't getting any younger. They'll be 34 and 32, respectively, once the 2008 season rolls around.
74. Kansas City Chiefs: Louis Holmes, DE, Arizona The 2007 season could be Jared Allen's last as a Chief. If Allen leaves, Kansas City will need to find a worthy substitute.

Why not.

Chiefs Looking to Mexico for their O-Line Needs

I'm guessing this is him but I don't speak Spanish.

Check it out:

Phones jangled, PR people sighed, and Mexican reporters made plans to fly to Kansas City today, when the Chiefs are expected to sign an unknown offensive lineman who goes by the nickname of "Pencil." That's the buzz Ramiro Pruneda has created in his hometown of Monterrey, Mexico, where his followers hope that someday he'll become just the second nonkicker from their country to play in an NFL game.

Pruneda is 6'7" and 320 pounds. This story is creating a little buzz around the blogosphere but put me on record right now as saying Pruneda will have little to no impact and that the Chiefs are obviously really, really desperate for O-line help. Call it a hunch.

Carl, there is a reason why there has only been one other nonkicker to come out of Mexico. This is not baseball and Mexico is not Japan. The only reason I would give Pruneda any credence is because Grunhard is backing him.

Update [2007-1-26 15:4:15 by Chris]: In case you were curious, here is that Spanish page, translated to English via Google's translator.

Arrowhead Pride ROTY - Tamba Hali

This immigrant is taking other people's jobs. (Photo via SportingNews.com)

With 50% of the vote in our poll, Tamba Hali bested out the other Chiefs' rookies to become the AP Rookie of the Year. Coming out of Penn State, Hali recorded 58 tackles, 8 sacks, 1 INT and 5 forced fumbles this season. But enough stats. The real heart to Tamba Hali's ROY season comes from leaving war-torn Liberia when he was 11 years old and growing up in New Jersey. The irony of leaving a dangerous country for New Jersey is just too much for me right now so lets continue.

Hali was the 20th overall pick in the 2006 Draft and was the #2 rated D-End (behind overall #1 pick Mario Williams) before the draft started. For the most part, you can say that the Chiefs have drafted pretty poorly in the last ten years. Yeah we grabbed TG and LJ but we also drafted Ryan Sims and Trezelle Jenkins. Who you ask? Exactly. Tamba Hali was a pick that (I hope at least) nobody is regretting. His energy and talent as a pass rusher were evident from the begninig of the season. Is the Chiefs' defense on its way back to dominance? With Hali as a cornerstone of our much improved defense, I have to say so.

Too many times I and we have seen hyped up Chiefs' rookies fall to the many perils of the toughest professional sport around. I have visions of Snoop Minnis and Sly Mo flying in my head right now. But Tamba Hali broke that trend and satisfied even the most testy Chiefs' fan this season.

Here's to a great 2006-07 season and a great career. Congrats to the only choice for the Kansas City Chiefs AP Rookie of the Year, Tamba Hali.

Tamba Hali Signs with the Chiefs

Elizabeth Merrill of the Kansas City Star reports:

Defensive end Tamba Hali, 20th overall pick in this year?s NFL draft, agreed to terms of a five-year contract Thursday shortly before the team left for River Falls, Wis. Hali?s agent, Brian Mackler, was boarding a plane Thursday afternoon to hammer out the final details in River Falls. Hali has yet to sign the deal.
Damn good news. Especially right before training camp starts. Now if we can only get Eddie Kennison to stay happy....

Chiefs Sign 7th Round Pick Jarrad Page

From Kansascity.com:

The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a three-year contract with seventh-round draft pick Jarrad Page, as president Carl Peterson continues to sign this year's draft class before the opening of camp.

Terms of the agreement, announced Wednesday, were not disclosed.

A four-year starter at UCLA, Page had 249 career tackles and nine interceptions. He is projected as a safety with the Chiefs.

Here is some more info on Page, who was in the MLB amateur draft as well. Not particularly excited about a 7th round pick but then again, Priest Holmes was an undrafted free-agent.
