Count It Down: Top 5 Super Bowls
Not very often does the Super Bowl end up being a legitimately good game. However, when it does, it makes for a great ending to a season. So, here go my top 5 Super Bowls I have seen.
5. Super Bowl XXVII Dallas Cowboys 52 Buffalo Bills 17 This one was a lot of fun. The Cowboys were right in their prime, the triplets were all at the peak of their careers. I know this was a rematch that most people didn't want to see but I the Cowboys stomping the Bills.
4. Super Bowl XXIX San Francisco 49ers 49 San Diego Chargers 26 I loved this one because I hated Stan Humphries and the Chargers. I don't even remember how they made it this year. Young threw for 6 TDs just embarassing the Chargers. It was great.
3. Super Bowl XXIII San Francisco 49ers 20 Cincinnati Bengals 16 Montana's drive. Enough said.
2. Super Bowl XXXVI New England Patriots 20 St. Louis Rams 17 The beginning of the Patriots dynasty. I remember them just coming out of nowhere that year. The Rams were supposed to kill them (I think the spread was similar to this year's, around 13 or 14). We got to see Tom Brady on a huge stage for the first time. The last second FG didn't hurt either.
1. Super Bowl XXXIV St. Louis Rams 23 Tennessee Titans 16 The best Super Bowl I've ever seen. Mike Jones (a Kansas City native, not quite sure where he went to high school), tackled Kevin Dyson at the 1 yard line as time expired to secure victory for the Rams. Wikipedia even has an entry titled simply The Tackle.
Now, let's hear yours. I just ranked the Super Bowls that I remember watching. You can rank them however you want. Let's hear it.

Housekeeping
Before we get into this Friday and the weekend, I wanted to make a couple of notes.
First, thank you to everyone who has been writing diaries. They're the engine of this site and as you can see, a lot of times the conversation is more lively there than it is on the front page. We have one of the best diary sections in SB Nation football. Again, thank you. Your good work does not go unnoticed.
Second, I used to welcome each new commenter to the site but that's becoming difficult to do. We've had a big increase in active participants on this site (don't be shy!) in the last month or so and I just can't welcome everyone without invading the conversation. So to all of you new commenters out there who I haven't welcomed, welcome to the site.
Finally, if you're a lurker who's been reading for a while and not commenting, please jump in the conversation. We're very welcoming here. You won't get insulted for your point of view but except to have it thoroughly beaten down if you can't back it up. The hallmark of AP is our intelligent commenters and we intend to keep it that way. Its pretty lively here on game days too when I put up our open game thread. If you get a chance, check it out this weekend and see what its like.
So, if you haven't already, register for a user name and begin commenting (It only requires an e-mail address and filling out about four lines). One nice feature of registering is that it keeps track of what comments you've read and which ones you haven't read in each post. So when your scrolling down the front page of AP,you can immediately see which posts have new comments that you haven't read. Pretty cool and it will only get cooler after we add some new features over the next few months.
I'll go ahead and make this a totally open thread this morning. Talk about whatever is going on in the world of the NFL/sports. Anything interesting you come across today, drop it in here. Got another post coming up in a bit.

I Know the Chiefs Are Winless...
The fight apparently broke out over the Chiefs game, inmates' relatives told reporters. It was unclear if anyone was seriously hurt, or how long the jail was locked down.
Hat tip to TKC.

Breaking News: Belichick Fined; Patriots Will Lose Picks
Just heard on Sirius NFL Radio that as punishment for the "spying scandal", Bill Belichick himself will be fined $500,000 and the New England Patriots will be fined $250,000. Also, if the Patriots make the playoffs in the 2007 season, they will lose their 1st round pick in the 2008 draft. If they do not make the playoffs, they will lose their 2nd round pick and their 3rd round pick.
Wow. That is a harsh penalty. The commissioner isn't kidding around. For those of you who thought this story was going to blow over...it didn't.

SB Nation Sports Report Tonight!
BigBlueShoe is back in the "studio" after spending two weeks traveling all over the country. He saw Peyton Manning up close, chatted with Colts fans, hung out in an English pub in Santa Monica, and ate a burrito the size of his forearm off 24th and Mission in San Francisco. But while away doing all these things, he missed his buddy TheSportsGuru and the SB Nation Sports Report, the official podcast of SB Nation!
Who is on tonight?
Barry finally hit the ball out for the 756th time. Listen to how TheSportsGuru thinks breaking the homerun record is more a tribute to Hank Aaron than anything else.
Also, we continue our NFL preview hitting up the NFC North tonight. Yes, last week we said AFC North, but when Gonzo of Daily Norseman practically begged us to have him on and preview the NFC North tonight, we couldn't refuse. That, and he sold us his next born child. Guru and I plan to name the baby Peyton Elway regardless of the child's sex.
What else will we cram into an hour?
We'll recap the pre-season games, and our thoughts on how certain players responded to their new teams.
Is it BYOB?
Never, ever order a "Sweety Mexican" at a bar for two reasons: 1) Because ordering a drink by that name makes you sound like a schmuck, and 2) the drink is a shot of tequilla with mayo sweared around the rim. The SBNSR suggests a more traditional drink, like a glass of chilled Patron. You'll get further with the ladies. Trust us. We know from experience. Chicks don't dig dudes who mix tequilla with whipped eggs.
If you want to hear how BigBlueShoe sounds after drinking chilled Patron, tune in tonight at 9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific, on the SB Nation Sports Report at Now Live.com!

MTV's Rock 'N Jock Super Bowl
Last night, while playing trivia at a bar on a team named arrowheadpride.com (not kidding), I had a random thought: What the hell ever happened to MTV's Rock 'N Jock series? They had baseball, basketball and football games all populated by musicians, actors and athletes. The rules were ridiculous (see the 100 point basket), the cleavage gratuitous and the players more than likely swallowing some sort of performance enhancer. It would appear, after no research at all, that the series is now defunct.
I always remember Rock 'N Jock sports for what it really was- shitty reality television before we even knew what reality television was. But, for now on this gorgeous Friday, enjoy this clip of Lavar Arrington catching a touchdown while sitting in a scrolling armchair at the back of the endzone.
Gotta love how Marino points to Arrington to hit the open spot. Those were the days....

One Year of Arrowhead Pride
Exactly one year ago today, Arrowhead Pride began. Some of you reading this have been around this site from the beginning and some have only joined the site in the last few months (or even days). And only a couple of you came to this site via my now defunct, old Chiefs blog- The Tomahawk Blog. Pretty cool name, huh? Well, it sounded cool after my 100th try at finding a good domain name.
Not to spend too much time on this but I figure a few lines about where we've come and where we're going would be appropriate. For probably the first 6 months of the existence of this blog, I posted nearly everyday to an audience of virtually NOBODY. Sure, I had hits coming in in but they were search engine hits, misc. hits and there weren't many of them. Still, I had fun writing about the Chiefs and through that slowly discovered that I'm not a mix of Hunter S. Thompson, a classic sports journalist and whoever wrote the Book of Revelation. But it was fun.
The site's traffic has jumped considerably since the off season began and the quality of the content has risen as well. You can see it in the higher number of well-written diaries we have and the fantastic commenters that come here everyday to talk about the Chiefs. I expect this community to grow quite a bit as we approach the off season and with that we'll have more success and more growing pains. It's up to each and everyone of us to make sure this site remains representative of the greatest football fans on the planet.
Let me take this time to say thank you to everyone that visits this site and contributes. This truly has become a community of Kansas City Chiefs fans and I'm hardly the main factor behind that. It's you, out there, reading and writing that make this site such a fun place to write for.
Keep it up and GO CHIEFS!

Joe Delaney: 1958 -1983

Joe Delaney was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 1981 draft. In his first season with the Chiefs, he rushed for 1121 yards and was voted to the Pro Bowl. It would be the only full season he would ever play in.
24 years ago today, Joe was in Monroe, LA, when he heard the cries of three boys drowning in a pond. Without knowing how to swim, Delaney jumped in the water to rescue them. Only one of the boys ended up surviving. Joe Delaney drowned with the other two.
Today, his retired #37 appears in Arrowhead Stadium's Ring of Honor.
Take a moment today to remember that there really are heros out there, even in the NFL. To this day, the story of Joe Delaney continues to inspire people around the world and remind them of the common bond that connects all human beings. And that his perhaps his greatest legacy.
