Pittsburgh Steelers LB Keyaron Fox is a familiar name around here.  A third round draft pick by the Kansas City Chiefs at the tail end of the Dick Vermeil era, Fox appeared in 40 games over four years for the Chiefs.  He contributed on special teams and even got four starts while fellow LB Derrick Johnson was downed by injury.

This isn't the rivalry game you might expect it to be for Fox.  That's because when he left he went to the eventual Super Bowl champs and, well, he doesn't really know many players on the Chiefs roster.  He played with only eight players that are currently on the team:

Dustin Colquitt, Brodie Croyle, Ron Edwards, Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson, Jon McGraw, Rudy Niswanger, Kolby Smith and Brian Waters.

"When I got to looking and saw the personnel that's around," Fox said via Chuck Finder of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "there aren't too many people from the organization as a whole that I know. They went through a house-cleaning, and there are only a few players left."

The coaching staff is different from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator to head coach.  Really, this team isn't really any different from others for Fox.

I think for the most part a lot of folks appreciate what Fox did here and with our current situation at linebacker probably wishes he hadn't left.  There's no animosity there so I expect there to be no boos, if anything a few cheers.

"They're pretty good fans," Fox said. "They supported me while I was there. I don't think there are going to be any boos or anything, hopefully."

VIDEO: Steelers v. Chiefs Preview

"Kansas City is mad too because they're so bad."

Thanks Pat Kirwan. NFL.com needs to trade him for some sort of fermented chicken drink.

A couple of notes from the preview:

  • "You can't run on the Steelers defense."
  • Kirwan thinks Jamaal Charles will be featured in the passing game more.
  • "The Steelers don't need Troy Polamalu."
  • Watch out for the Steelers featuring the tight end more.

Lazy Saturday, huh? Not much going on in college football today either.

Make sure you stop by tomorrow morning for the onslaught of news we'll deliver before the game. Game starts at Noon tomorrow.

Chiefs LB Tamba Hali Fined $5,000 for Roughing Raiders' Russell

According to a league spokesman, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali has been fined $5,000 for a roughing the passer penalty against the Oakland Raiders.

Judging by the replay, the fine is a result of the NFL's crackdown on protecting quarterbacks, especially down by the knees.

With 2:38 left in the second quarter of the Chiefs 16-10 victory over the Raiders, Hali got past tackle Mario Henderson and dove at Russell as he threw causing an incomplete pass.

Hali was flagged for roughing the passer.  However, Henderson was also called for offensive holding.

The penalties were offsetting and the down was played again.

A few weeks ago, linebacker Corey Mays was hit with a similar fine for hitting the Chargers Philip Rivers.  Against the Giants, Jarrad Page was flagged for hitting a defenseless receiver.  The call was questionable and the league office did not fine him.  Against the Cowboys, a defender was flagged and fined for hitting a defenseless Bobby Wade.

A few days ago we passed along a story from Chris Steuber of Scout that a Kansas City Chiefs scout attended Wednesday's matchup between the Buffalo Bulls and Miami (Oh) RedHawks.

Well, the Bulls won convincingly 42-17.

Today, the Chiefs scouts continue to look for talent. Here are a couple more games the Chiefs scouts will be at.

Chiefs Facing the Best 3-4 Coach in the Business

One of the reasons I'm anxious to see the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend is because it's a chance to face the defense the Chiefs are trying to be.  Led by Dick LeBeau, the Steelers defense is near the tops in the league year after year.

LeBeau is largely considered one of the greatest 3-4 defensive minds in the NFL.  He created the zone blitz and has attracted the admiration of players and coaches across the league.

"I'm gonna tell you right now, guys," former Chief Bill Maas told 610 Sports yesterday.  "The best I've ever seen coaching up a 3-4 -- and I've been in a 3-4, Marty was really good at it, Bill Cowher was good at it -- but the best guy is in Pittsburgh.  Hands down. He is unbelievable."

Some Wondering if Chiefs Coach Deserves Blame in Bowe Suspension

In light of Dwayne Bowe's suspension earlier this week, I noted that I had received several responses from folks wondering what Todd Haley's role is in all of this.  In fact, I spoke with two former players, one with the Chiefs, who also expressed some concern over the standards applied in the offseason.

Yesterday on 610 Sports, former Chief and two-time Super Bowl champion Mark Collins also wondered what Haley's role was in all of this. I was interested in his thoughts because his viewpoint is unique as a former player himself.  Naturally, Collins aligned with the player on this one and articulated an argument that I think would resonate, whether good or bad, with a few players who have experienced offseason programs under similar conditions.

Per Collins, Haley shares in part of the blame for not preparing Bowe with the ability to meet the club's weight standards.

"If your coach is telling you to basically come in shape, be ready, don't be overweight," Collins said, "some players don't know how to work hard to lose weight, and I'm not saying that's Dwayne Bowe, but maybe he doesn't because he took a diuretic to do it quickly."

As we continue to prepare for the Kansas City Chiefs 10th game of the season, we're bringing you five good questions with the good folks at Behind the Steel Curtain

Blitzburgh, the man in charge at BSTC, answered a few questions I had for him on this weekend's game.

If you have any other questions about the Steelers, there's a post at BTSC if you have questions and there's one on AP where the Steelers folks are asking us questions on the Chiefs.

The game is one day away and here's our Q&A (nice rhyme).  Definitely read the part on Charles against the Steelers run defense and definitely check out BTSC.  The game preview is currently on the front page.
