Chiefs/Broncos Blogosphere Round up
First the Kansas City Chiefs...
BobGretz.com examines last week's 4th quarter drive that put the Chiefs on top for good.
But get this: on second look it was not a drive of great efficiency or performance. In fact, the Chiefs made multiple mistakes during the possession. A sure interception was dropped and several throws were forced by QB Tyler Thigpen. Two guards pulled on a play and ran into each other. Even on Larry Johnson’s two-yard TD run, the Raiders got great penetration between center and left guard; Johnson went between center and right guard.
Yet, the Chiefs were able to overcome their own mistakes and pump home a TD that proved to be the winning points over Oakland.
Here’s how they did it.
I was at a loss for words when I read this post from Arrowhead Addict.
I ventured into the Coliseum for the sold out Kansas City Chiefs-Oakland Raiders game decked out from head to toe in Chiefs apparel. Bright red jersey. Bright red hat. I’m 6-foot-3, too, so I definitely stood out.

Kent Babb is talking about Herm Edwards' job security over at The Red Zone.
The offseason is approaching, and that's when changes are made and jobs are lost. Well, nowadays owners and GMs don't always wait until a season ends to send a coach on his way to become the fair-catch coach at Omaha Academy for the Bowlegged.
And now the Denver Broncos...
BroncoTalk.net is loving Broncos' running back Peyton Hillis:
Pop quiz! Peyton Hillis is:
- A 7th round draft pick out of Arkansas.
- A running back pushed into the role of a fullback by being on the same team as first rounder Darren McFadden and first rounder Felix Jones.
- Officially listed at 6′2″ and 250 pounds.
- Being considered as a hybrid H-back, meaning he could line up as a tight end in the slot.
- Compared to Dallas Clark.

The Rocky Mountain News Broncos blog has notes from today's press conference.
The Broncos have lost three consecutive home games, but the Chiefs have gone 0-7 at Invesco since the stadium opened in 2001. "We've gone in there, and most of the time before the half, the game is lopsided. Then it's tough. The crowd gets involved and they do a good job getting after you."
MHR has a FanPost up about Casey Wiegmann.
Which got me thinking (scary I know)...who has been more quintessential to the Broncos success this year? Okay, I'll give you Cutler and maybe a few other offensive players. But would the Broncos really have had any chance this year if it wasn't for Wiegmann and the amazing job that he has done coming into a new system and backing up Tom Nalen, one of the best all-time centers in the game? Simply put...I don't think so!

Will The Raiders Rush All Over The Chiefs...Again?
Remember the lowest of all the lows this season? Looking at the box score following the Raiders 23-8 romping of the Chiefs back in September and seeing 300 rushing yards made me sick. Justin Fargas went down so Michael Bush stepped in and put 90 on the ground. (If I don't mention the fact that Darren McFadden had 164 yards against us then it's like it didn't really happen.)
Let's take a look at the Raiders rushing attack thus far:

The Most Intriguing Match Ups: Week 2
Tankville...where running backs come to retire.
The Kansas City Chiefs open up Arrowhead Stadium for 2008 play in Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders. Both teams were 4-12 last year, with the Raiders taking one in KC and the Chiefs taking a win in Oakland.
The tempting match up to point out is the newly souped up Raiders' secondary against the Chiefs' young corp of receivers. The addition of former Falcon Pro Bowl CB DeAngelo Hall catapults this secondary into probably one of the best in the league. A Hall-Bowe matchup sounds great to watch but it won't be the most intriguing. We know Dwayne Bowe is fantastic and we don't need a good performance against the Raiders to prove it again.
I again think that the most interesting data from this game will come from the defensive line. The Chiefs squeaked in at 28th overall last year in rushing defense, a mark that absolutely must be improved for the team to progress as a whole. Teams absolutely stomped the Chiefs last year on the ground. Selvin Young and LaDainian Tomlinson had monster days against us, helping bump that 130 yard/game average the Chiefs relinquished last year.
The Raiders will be another early and difficult test for an unproven squad of defensive linemen. Last year, RB Justin Fargas became the first Raider to rush for over 100 yards at Arrowhead since 1978. Highly touted second year RB Michael Bush will get his first chance to play on an NFL field, after spending 2007 on the PUP list.
And there is this other guy they have...McFadden? Yeah, that's it. Darren McFadden. We'll keep an eye on him too.
In other words, the Raiders are stacked at running back and should prove to be a worthy challenge to our youngsters on the defensive line.
I'm going to assume a vast improvement over 2007 on the offensive line, which means I'm shifting the utmost importance of development to our defensive line. Worked right, the talent is there on that line to create an intimidating force. Worked wrong, and like our offensive line, the team could be harmed for seasons to come.
To sum it up, the Chiefs have a lot riding on pretty much every position on the team.

Morning Update (Friday Edition)
- They're talking about Larry Johnson's place among today's active running backs at Arrowhead Addict.
- On Saturday, fans can head to Arrowhead Stadium for the Arby's mini-camp. Gates open at 9:30 AM and the mini-camp starts at 11:30 AM. If anyone goes to that and snaps some pictures or video, send it our way (chiefssportsblognation@gmail.com). There may be traffic issues getting there so be aware.
- RB Darren McFadden is officially an Oakland Raider.
- Damion McIntosh on how easy the switch from left to right tackle is -- "If you're a right-hander, trying writing with your left."
- MVN -- Carl Peterson is Still a Liability Until Proven Otherwise.
- I love this line from rookie TE Brad Cottam -- "I was pretty much in awe when I first met Tony and then you look over and he’s got two lockers. That tells you everything you need to know."
- Too much to drink at Applebees? - "Two sources involved in the investigation tell 2 On Your Side that a witness has placed Bills Running Back Marshawn Lynch behind the wheel of his S.U.V. at the time of a hit-and-run accident early Saturday morning."
- Finally, Adam Teicher looks over the Chiefs' options for the return game.
We're approaching critical mass with these NFL players drinking and driving. How many players have to be involved in accidents or arrested before a guy with millions of dollars on the line says to a friend, "Can you drive?"
Does anyone know of any statistics related to NFL players and drunk driving? Speaking anecdotally, these incidents seem to be quickly on the rise.
We're working on an inside report from the Kansas City Chiefs OTAs, which may come over the weekend or on Monday. Or even today. Stay tuned.
