Chiefs Lose - The Good Way
Going into the season, nearly all of us expected the Chiefs to not be a very good team. The phrase "I don't care if we go 4-12 as long as we are competitive and are improved by the end of the season." was spoken by more than a few. The loss to the Jets was pretty much what we had in mind for most of those expected 12 losses.

What New York Jets Fans are Saying
via NFL.com
Lots of good stuff over at The Jets Blog, which is a heck of a sports blog. You know why you should listen to their crew? They have press credentials to this weekend's game. Here's what they're thinking about this weekend's game.
On Tyler Thigpen...
This week they will have to get pressure on Thigpen and force him into making throws he does not feel comfortable doing so. If you let him sit in the pocket untouched, anything can happen – its football.
On Brett Favre getting back on track...
The Raiders game play calling was very conservative with most of his passes being within the 10 yard range. Many questions have arisen over the past week on what the issue may be. Some people feel Favre may be more banged up than we believe, or the fact that Coles/Cotchery dealt with injuries this past Sunday was the reason for the short passing game, or also that the play calling is just very conservative because they are afraid Favre will turn the ball over in opponents’ territory. Whatever the issue is, the NYJ must step up their game with the crucial part of their schedule coming up.
On the Kansas City Chiefs passing game...
I am sure the NYJ will assign Darrelle Revis to Dwayne Bowe as they do every week against the opponents’ top wide receiver. The match up on Gonzalez is once again going to be thwarted with a mix of linebackers and safeties. Losing LJ really hurts the KC offense because they are missing a true grinding, tough running back. Jamal Charles will start in his place; however if they can’t get him going look for Thigpen to try to force feed the ball to Bowe and Gonzalez. That can lead to plenty of turnovers.
On Herman Edwards...
This is the NFL – any time can be beat in any game. Herm is a great motivator, and I am sure his team will buy into whatever he preaches them this week. Wait hold on, Mr. Dick Curl how much time do we have left here? Don’t count out an old dog coming to his old playground to justify his coaching abilities.
Sounds like Jets fans have more confidence in Herm than Chief fans do. I'm busy this afternoon with other work so keep up the good work in the FanPosts and FanShots.

WR Laveranues Coles' Concussion a Big Break for Chiefs Secondary
via NFL.com
The New York Jets have ten, count 'em, ten players listed on their injury report so far this week. And only two of those players participated fully in practice on Wednesday, meaning they'll almost assuredly play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
| OUT | DNP | LIMITED | FULL |
| K Mike Nugent (right thigh) | WR Laveranues Coles (head, thigh) | TE Chris Baker (back) | DT Kris Jenkins (back) |
| TE Bubba Franks (hip) | WR Jerricho Cotchery (shoulder) | LB Calvin Pace (foot) | |
| T Damien Woody (calf) | G Brandon Moore (foot) | ||
| S Eric Smith (head) |
WR Coles actually has a concussion, as does safety Eric Smith. When asked about the injury, Coles said, "Unless any of y'all are going to fork over some cash, don't ask me no more damn questions about it. Talk to Eric and talk to the doctors."
The Chiefs only real injury is the strained groin of punter Dustin Colquitt, which is why the Chiefs signed punter Steve Weatherford earlier this week. Donnie Edwards will be back this week after dealing with an ankle injury.
The Jet's injuries, although unfortunate, do give a decent advantage to the Kansas City Chiefs. With their leading receiver Coles out of the lineup, the Chiefs young secondary may catch a break this week after literally watching the Carolina wide receiving corp run right through them in Week 5. The Titans didn't need to pass last week since they racked up 332 yards rushing the ball.
Even with the injuries, I'm stuck with the feeling that Brett Favre is going to shred the Chiefs' secondary.

Friday News, Notes and Musings
Former Chief Johnnie Morton goes on a blind date. And for some reason, John Salley shows up halfway through. I still haven't watched the whole thing. It's from a show called Date the Pros. H/T to KC Chiefs Football.
The word on the street and in the FanPost section is that the Kansas City Chiefs have finally released safety Greg Wesley. Back in May, it was made clear Wesley would be released and just before training camp, it's become "official". I put quotes around official because Wesley is still listed on the roster and no official word has come down.
A quick note about the Brett Favre business. There is no way he is coming to KC and lazy sportswriters are just saying that to make a few waves. Anyone who has paid a smidgen of attention to the Chiefs in the last year knows Brett Favre is the opposite type of player Herm wants.
Arrowhead Addict has a piece about Carl Peterson and the upcoming Dark Knight Batman movie. They're running the Dark Knight at the IMAX here, but it's already sold out this weekend. Anyone ever seen a movie in an IMAX theater? I think I'm going to hold off and wait to see it there. Sounds like it would be worth it.
Just wanted to mention that I think Jeffrey Flanagan is doing a great job at Over the Top. It's pretty cool to see a newspaper embrace sports blogs and embrace them well. Keep up the good work Jeffrey.
Mr. Jon Yoon at says its about time the Chiefs took on a corporate sponsor. I'm sure Jon is fully prepared for the deluge of comments opposed to his stance. But as usual, he makes good points and it's tough to argue with him.
That's it for this morning. Jibber jabber away here if you're bored on this final bastion of work before the summer weekend.
