Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson made ProFootballFocus Top 100 Players List
ProFootballFocus.com created a list of their Top 100 Players in 2011. Two Kansas City Chiefs made the list. Derrick Johnson at 28 and Tamba Hali at 51. Both are very deserving in my opinion. I do think Flowers should have made it though. Aside from getting abused by Calvin Johnson, I thought he had a very good season.
Here is the link to the complete list: http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/05/03/the-pro-football-focus-top-101-players-of-2011/
What they said about DJ and Tamba is after the jump.
Gotta Love Competition: Ranking the AFC West
Well the draft is done and OTA's and Training Camp are next.
So why not a little power ranking AFC West style. I am going to rank them based on overall talent, off-season pickups, off-season losses, draft and schedule.

Jeff Allen Selected as Member of All Value Team
Hello!
Despite all the hype over first-round NFL draft selections, whether they succeed or fail is hardly headline news. In the long-run we all know it's the middle-tier guys who show up and prove to be perennial Pro-Bowlers and the foundation of championship teams.
So while the headlines focus on Luck and RGIII, DIRECTV and NFL Draft guru Michael Lombardi are going much deeper, unveiling the definitive and official 2012 NFL DRAFT "ALL VALUE TEAM." Will these players, selected by Lombardi, become the next Shannon Sharpe, Jared Allen or Marques Colston? Lombardi felt the following late picks in the draft held the most potential for immediate and long-term value to the teams that selected them:
• Jeff Allen – OT/OG, Kansas City (44th)
• Mike Adams – OT, Pittsburgh (56th)
• Demario Davis – LB, New York Jets (77th)
• Akiem Hicks – DE, New Orleans (89th)
• Omar Bolden – CB, Denver (101st)
• Frank Alexander – DE Carolina (103rd)
• Tank Carder – LB, Buffalo (147th)
• Jack Crawford – DE, Oakland (158th)
• Vick Ballard – RB, Indianapolis (170th)
• Billy Winn – DT, Cleveland (205th)
• Caleb McSurdy – LB, Dallas (222nd)
• Cam Johnson – DE, San Francisco (237th)
As you can see, one of Kansas City’s own players, Jeff Allen, has been selected.

Matt Cassel vs. Trent Green revisted
Three years ago I created a Fanpost shortly after the acquisition of Matt Cassel. Everyone was starving for a quaterback (much like today still) and most Chiefs fans were excited to finally get a potential quality quarterback who had potential to be around for awhile.
OK, here is my rant on the Mellinger piece . . .
This has been building up for some time so bear with me. The latest articles implies that the Chiefs have, once again, not tried to upgrade the QB position. Now before you read on, note that I don't think Cassel is our long term answer, Quinn isn't even on Cassel's level and I haven't seen Stanzi do anything at all.
What's goods a Scheme ????
Remember the old formations? Wing T, I Formation, 4-3-3 and so on. Pro Football has had several evolutions, which in turn has made some positions more desired. Right now, or as of last year, the ratio of teams playing 3-4, or version of a 4-3/cover-2 was almost the same. Our team, The Kansas City Chief's is almost most finished from transitioning out of the 4 man fronts and hitting stride with the 3-4. Arguments abound on which is better, and now it appears we are sitting in another transitioning, which is 2 DT's on passing downs and a variety of configurations between the LB's and DB's. Some believe the Cover 2 Scheme is doomed from the rule changes.
The fact that a team has much more leeway in playing with a variety of specialist's, the 3-4 is ideal as a situational substitution mechanism, giving it an advantage in the current up tempo, passing friendly environment the NFL is currently displaying. In fact there is a great debate within the football community, fans included, as to what position on the defense is in fact the most beneficial element.
Buffalo, by signing Super Mario for approximately 1/6 of it's cap room, has given us an indication that a pass rushing defensive end is the biggest need. We tend to agree to a degree, giving Hali a 1/12. I think the cap is around 123 million bucks, so simplifying the math and finding estimates off the cuff. Interestingly enough, we have several highly paid defensive players getting roughly a 1/12. Dorsey and Flowers, T-Jax until recently taking a pay cut. Carr, who was let go to find his riches, found roughly the same amount. A good team needs balance, so it seems Pioli is doing pretty good with the offense and defense getting a good split. Maybe why Carr was let go.
If you perceive what I am getting at, the scheme provides diversity, which is also giving us an extra player on the pay scale. That extra 1/12 is there because you ain't paying Mario the whole sixth, we get Hali and Dorsey. So in effect our scheme, heavy on specialist's, has better come and go composition. The Texans knew that there was no way to keep him with the cap situation and drafted accordingly, along with a scheme change. Important here is the scheme change. The flexibility of the 3-4 gives teams an advantage personnel wise both on and off the field.
Enter Dontari Poe. You want flexibility? Here is a guy who is going to be asked to play every defensive snap according to reports. On the Nose, in the 2 DT subpackages and I'm guessing some drop back into the short middle in some rare passing events. Much like RAC did in NE occasionally. This is a very valuable commodity and I hope Scotty is right in his assessment and it bears fruit. Don't count out Powe either, because if he turns into a badass NT, we will have even greater flexibility in how Poe is used. In fact, getting some plays instead of starting and playing whole games is likely what will happen. Lessens the prima donna effect in the overall team dynamic as well. Sorry, gotta go, over the word limit. Go Chief's!!!!
Time to Put it All on the Line
Alright AP letʻs see whose got it and who does not. All thatʻs on the line here is your eternal reputation but the potential of infinite glory and the admiration of the tens of female visitors that swing by here is the prize.
I want to know, what are your bold predictions post draft. No stupid comments like "the Chiefs will definitely play in at least 16 games this year." or youʻll get guppyʻd
Dontari Poe was the Right Choice
KC chiefs fan are the best fans in all of football. It’s so cool to be a part of this devout and passionate following. But, I have to say that sometimes we let our sensibility override our sagacity and find ourselves getting a little over-bent about things that we know very little about and have no control over. We love to play GM and coach. Some of us even feel entitled to have a say in all of this just because we’ve been pouring our heart and soul into this team for years. We've spit, spilled, and shouted the wisdom we would use to make the "right" draft choices. Truth is, not one of our many tears, rants, or pledges will ever make a difference in any team draft choice decision.

Our new guard (hopefully) Jeff Allen, breaking down some footage
This pick, at first, was very disappointing to me in the least. I was hoping for Cordy Glenn (went to Buffalo), Amini Silatolu (went to Carolina), or even Peter Konz (went to Atlanta). To me looking at his scouting report, I was rather disappointed as I wanted a mauler, a real brute that will hit someone hard. His scouting report was anything but. Said he was undersized, didn't play with power, pass-blocking specialist, tended to absorb hits as opposed to delivering them. Nothing that I like to hear. But doing some more research, I learned some things. He has reportedly grown as a player (both physically and mentally) very much. He has gained 10-15 pounds since the season ended and Illini fans will tell you Mikel LeShoure's 2010 season was largely in part to Allen's blocking. Reporters at the Senior Bowl report he was playing like a mad man and was incredibly psyched up, like he would strike someone in the face at the slightest provocation.
So, without further ado let's get to the analysis. My very first full, 4 quarter analysis. (BTW, if it means anything, Mercilus has quite the game. One 3rd and 14 on UCLA's opening drive, he has the best jumped snap I have ever seen! Houston does a good job in the draft, once again.)

How the Chiefs Defense Became Versatile Again
Dateline - Thursday, April 26th. The agony. The Chiefs just selected a workout warrior. A winner of the underwear olympics, with little to no impressive game tape. 64 snaps a game against Conference USA competition with THOSE stats? Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel must be out of their minds, right? I mean, there were countless defensive tackles left on the board! A 3-4 inside linebacker that would fit our system was available! A top rated guard, too! And yet, we picked THIS guy?
*deep breath*
Yeah, the initial reaction wasn't great. There's still a lot of resentment about the pick on the site right now, and for good reason. There are a ton of question marks about the guy, and while the transition to the NFL is tough for most players, it would appear that Poe's transition is going to be an even bigger hill to climb. However, follow me through this post, and let me see if I can convince you that, from a scheme and versatility standpoint, this was not only a good pick, but it was the right pick.
